The Atherton's have spent their lives racing and developing mountain bikes and so we were excited to see they they have started their own MTB brand, all built in the UK! We have been following the Atherton Bike company journey from the very start and it's been amazing to see to their UK based head quarters to check out the full process of building one of their high end bike frames! Atherton use a combination of 3D Printed lugs in combination with high end carbon tubing which they say has many benefits, such as being able to produce quickly produce rapid prototyping, a lot of sizes and even custom geometry!

Atherton Bikes have rapidly become the coolest bike brand for me. If I was younger I would love one of their downhill bikes , actually I would love one anyway just as wall art in my hall ! Everything about the bikes, the family and the park all ties together seamlessly, you can clearly see the way they all approached their competition riding years is now being transferred in the way their business's are being ran and marketed. I understand there is an Ebike in the background and new Ebike trails coming up at Dyfi where no doubt a lot of the R&D is being done for them. The ultimate package to get the products right. Looking forward to seeing GMBN Tech return for a follow up to actually ride the bikes , both DH and Trail, and hopefully show how the test guys approach their job when testing components. Great show as always guys.

One of the best things on the tech channel ever. Excellent video and respect to Atherton bikes being so open about the process. I am still confused as to how the bike is actually put together at the end - there's no flex in anything so how is the triangle put together; I can see how each corner can be done but how is the triangle completed? :) Rather like Koenigsegg, this is definitely a lottery win purchase if only for the joy of the engineering that goes into it.

@superchickensoup
@superchickensoup 2 года назад
They already do custom geo, you can have anything you want
@lukasvrana6388
@lukasvrana6388 2 года назад
@@superchickensoup check the process - they make custom sizing, so there is possibility to change the lenght of tubes. But angles remain the same, so the titanium components are same (atm they have two verisons of those titanium components). What I had in my mind was even the geo change, which is not possible now (and not needed for majority of the riders here). Changing of angles means that you have to remodel all 3D printed parts as well.

Really best of both worlds. In then end this could be they way the whole industry might go. Making a carbon fiber bike is incredibly complicated. This takes out the complexity while maintaining the advantages. And when these parts are manufactured in an industrial process they will become much cheaper. For mass production you could even work with lost forms while doing the prototyping on these laser machines.

It's great that it exist and given how custom it is, I can only hope that people who buy them actually know what their needs are. Looking at the frame it's a very conventional modern design, but they don't seem to have taken the construction method and reworked the design to make it fit to that method. Considering the strength of the printed titanium I think they could have changed those areas to reduce the complexity and take more use of the advantages of the material, especially on that bottom bracket on a good mid pivot design.
