I've a request to team Krita, please feature audio waveform timeline in the new version of Krita. It's a very essential that's missing. Almost everything is now available in Krita just that one and also maybe the text features can have improvement for comics.
@@KritaOrgPainting Thank you so much. I'm financially poor and Krita is my only and best hope. I've made a promise to myself when I'll become financially independent because this unconditional support by this software, I'll give financial and every support possible back in return. Thank you for this amazing software Team Krita. It means so valuable to me. For now I support in other forms possible if I can't support financially, lots of love.
Really, REALLY like the content/ info you provided. Love the brush making and how easy it is to create papers. I am equally interested on both. I am a Corel painter guy but it is an ongoing expense. I am familiar with the techniques, but terminology is different so I struggle to find where I need to go to make the papers and the changes to the brushes. I really appreciate your video(s)!
People prepared a lot of tutorials how to start with KRITA, but usualy they don't talk about this topic how to making brushes too much. I enjoy your tutorial as beginner, because it isn't chaotic.
I would definitely like to learn more in depth the brush engine. I often struggle to optimize brushes I create. They're often slow and laggy, and even though I've experimented some of the smudge brushes I have are super slow. Thank you for your amazing tutorial! I love Krita and I'm so excited about how far it's come!
I’m returning to Krita after 5 years of learning Photoshop - I put a lot of effort into learning Krita before but I have forgotten soo much! Just started this video series; and waow! I really wish I’d had access to them before. They’re excellent! Thank so much for taking the time to make the series. 👏👏
I'm constantly astounded by how much Krita has to offer especially considering that it is an open-source software. (also this man needs to be protected at all costs, he's helping me learn so many things and he's too precious whenever he talks about art)
Ramon here ;)That really touches my heart. And i have the same feeling about Krita. I am always learning and discovering new things. Spoiler: NExt video i will give more tricks :) and i am preparing some surprises. //RM
This is fabulous. Yes, please do more videos on this topic. Can you talk about the boxes across the bottom of the brush editor: Eraser switch size, eraser switch opacity -- and especially instant preview. Why does that one usually have crossed-out text? Also I'd love to understand exactly how watercolour brushes are made. Thank you, Ramon!
ok, i take note. To understand watercolor this is the basic thing but more things are needed. About parameters in the lower part of the brush editor you can read more info here in the official manual. docs.krita.org/en/user_manual/loading_saving_brushes.html#section-f-miscellaneous-options //RM
Awesome Video, Ramon! I would really like to see a breakdown of some specific kinds of brushes, so as to more understand their behaviour. I am thinking about a watercolor brush, a charcoal/chalk brush, a pattern brush, etc. Perhaps you could demonstrate how you created some brushes you have made. I also would be interested to know, how the brush tip can be best generated. What resoltion and image format is best for quality and performance. Texture is also quite a big topic, especially the more advanced options with blending modes and double brush. I would love to see a more advanced session on that alone. Thanks for making this lovely video!
This is an excellent intro to brush making. Very well explained. I knew you could make custom brushes in Krita, but didn't know how to get started, or even what the options mean. You've made the process much less intimidating. Thank You.
I love brush settings content. This one helped a lot to understand even more how to make my custom brushes. I hope a can watch more videos like these in the future and maybe a video about how to achieve certain "real life brush behaviour" like the watercolor ones that Krita already have. It's just amazing!
Thanks, it would be interesting to see also your brushes. ...As i see there are enough interest in watercolor so i will explain it in a future video ;) //RM
I literally JUST downloaded krita today and i love it, ive been wanting to find an app like this, most people dont use krita because they find it complex, while i do agree i think its not as they make it to be, well, i guess they get intimidated by all the buttons but thats reasonable though, anyone can learn this if they try hard enough, you need to give your time to it, I'm so glad i discovered this, i had been using ibispaint before and as much as i like it i did wanna move onto something more complex and more professional, i think? At first i did get worried that maybe i might not be able to use this but after watching your videos i feel better and im trying to get used to this app and i think ill be using it alot, thank you for making these videos and hopefully more people get to know about this app and start using it because i think this app is amazing and its all free too, everything is so well thought and it literally has everything, you literally couldnt ask for a better drawing app than this
Please keep making videos like this. I love the glimpses "under the hood" to see the technical side of Krita. I have come into digital art late in life after a stroke ended my career. I still love learning new skills ( and brush creation is a skill). Krita ( and Blender) are Godsends allowing me to interact at my own pace. Future requests - Information on the effects of filters to achieve a less "cartoony" and more antique or subtle effect for the image as a whole. More Videos on selections within the image and manipulations of the selections; fade ins and fade outs, feathering. Thanks
now this is a proper instructional video. helped me alot other videos did not cover what I needed but this was excellent very clear well spoken thank you
Krita is the ultimate in internet software - with a financial model that facilitates learners and non-professionals, and beyond, to create an honest, updated, and supportive community of users. jeje, sounds like a review.
i have been dabbling in brush making and made few simple brushes for myself. I would like to see more of this to make sure I don't miss anything Thanks for sharing
YES I totally needed this! I find that creating new brushes is a bit confusing and intimidating in a way so I stick to the default ones. Are you going to create a new brush from the start? Also thank you so much for making this!
Amazing, thank you ! Waiting for part 2 ! :D I would like to know more about all the parameters because sometimes, I have a very special effect in mind but I don't know how to get it.
I'm so glad you're doing a series on brushes! I'm more excited about having the editor and engine explained, rather than existing default brushes, because someone who understands the editor will have no trouble understanding how the default brushes function, but it doesn't work the other way around. A humble request: could you also explain saving custom brush sets and sharing them across two different computers? I tried to transfer my setup and couldn't do it, I found it too confusing.
one thing I would like for you to discuss on brush creation is the "curve calculation mode" I assume that will apply/stack settings but sadly I don't see this happening. Like let's take a brush that has some random value variation. I would like to modulate that based on speed. Logically I assume that if I "multiply" the speed curve/value with the random curve/value, I would get the result I want, yet I usually get horribly skewed result.
This is great for beginners, but it's even better for people switching over. I've been in Photoshop for 25 years, and I've been working professionally in games for 15 years. Just with this one video, I'm already good to go on brush creation and modification. But I also get some useful quick tips for non-destructive editing, AND those tips transfer right into work for game development and general 3D. Beyond that, some of this stuff works way better than it does in Photoshop! Great to have alternative choices that are not only free... but improve upon the original in their own ways, and circumvent shoddy practices like AI integration. Thanks for the great video !
Wow, thanks for this tutorial, its amazing the flexibility Krita has, but I have a question. How can you create diferent brush tips from scratch, and add them in the option or load the so in the moment you create a new brush there appears the new texture tips to create the new brush.?
Very useful material, thank you! The brush engine and knowing how to utilize it is essential for any digital painting software. Very much looking forward to seeing more of such explanatory videos.
Thank you for the tutorial! But for the life of me, I still can't figure out how to make rake brushes, not even the basic ones. I tried researching online and I couldn't find any clear/understandable answers, as I'm still quite a newbie to Krita. I tried looking for brush packs but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for, which is basically just a brush that can draw multipe parallel straight/curved lines. By any chance do you have any rake brush packs perhaps?
Nice that there is now a tutorial from Krita that goes deeper into the brush area. I've always wanted something like this. An explanation of what can be done with it.
a little off topic but i wish the smudge and smear type brushes were in their own sub category by default. or if the meta tag "smudge" allowed me to use the search feature to find a smudge type brush.
Thank you, Ramon!! been scratching my head trying to learn Krita and this will help immensely! And yes, please more tutorials on brushes, canvases and more watercolor tips and tricks would be great! :)
I love your app,i use it for painting always! Also i think your mascot kiki is pretty cute :D Im so excited for new updates :3(P.S thanks for the heart,i want to marry kiki someday hehe ;D)
That may be the best description of Opacity and Flow I've seen. Also finding out I can reattach the brush editor should help with an issue I have with 3rd party nibs and closing the editor. I'm thankful for all the helpful content.
Thanks for the video... very informative. Is it possible to simulate oil painting in Krita like it is done in Corel Painter? Also would love to see how you different brushes are applied in your painting. Thank you.
Krita has a different way to treat the impasto feeling. You can see an example here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cGaVQaFI64k.html I use all the brushes to create that effect and also you can download the brushes. Link is in the description //RM
I found it hard to master brushes, and you make it muc more clear. I find myslef often try to find the right brush to produce the right look when finalising a drawing. I'd like to learn more.
I have only recently started using krita (my brother recommended it to me), and I love it! Thank you for this video. It has helped me understand a few more of the settings and buttons in the system!
can you show a preview of what do you want exactly? maybe we can achieve it with brush editor or brush creation or use of different tools. :) can you share what filter is in G´mic ?// RM
How can I change the minumum and maximum size of a brush ? I still cant figure it out. I have to always keep a certain pressure just to keep the brush consistent in size but if I put any further pressure its SO hugeee.
put your maximum value in size elider in the top bar. then you need to go to the brush editor and modify the size sensor with a curve with two points. The first point in the right will be the value for minimum size. And the other on the right side will be the maximum value. //RM
In Krita 5.2.1, Brush Option Slider 4 is a duplicate of Brush Option Slider 3. They both control Flow. Nothing else. And sliding 4 changes 3. Sliding 3 changes 4.
hmm, did you know that you can change them? there is a triangle on the side of each slider, you press it and then press the plus icon on the desired one. Done. Are you referring to that?
Hello! Thank you very much for your lessons! Where can I find a complete guide to the latest versions? I can't figure out how the new tool works Enclose and Fill tool?
Hi!, Fill and enclose are really new and the manual is being updated. Meanwhile, you have the KA thread here where you can see a lot of info. krita-artists.org/t/enclose-and-fill-tool-proposal/31397/63 //RM
Only one thing. Flow is not usable in this brush engine. You have to tweak smudge length for the blending strength, color rate for the amount of pigment and opacity to control the transparency. //RM
Yes I did some brushes for NO pressure. Crayons bundle, Charcoal KA, and Watercolor included in Krita. Of course the behavior is not the same but at least they keep texture and feeling. What brushes would you define as needed for your goal?//RM
Nice! Could a specific guide to blending brushes be made sometime in the future too? Stuff like how they work with the two modes (dulling and smear), how patterns and sensors work... I've personally always struggled to understand it completely and never managed to make a brush that can have 100% solid color and edges at peak pressure, but have it mix colors without noticeable edges at low pressure. (smear makes the brush too airbrush-like, dulling makes it always have noticeable edges when blending, etc). It's pretty much the end-all for my workflow but for now I have to keep switching brushes.
ok, i take note for another video. Thanks for the feedback. I can tell you that Krita 5 has a new feature that creates more opaque color. docs.krita.org/en/reference_manual/brushes/brush_engines/color_smudge_engine.html#:~:text=set%20to%20100%25.-,Use%20new%20smudge%20algorithm,-New%20in%20version //RM
The bit about making a brush texture near the end looks like it's going to be a lot of fun experimenting. I really like some of the charcoal/chalk brushes that were released as resource packages. Although I keep going back to using the default Krita brushes, specifically the Marker Chisel Smooth, Basic Size 5 Opacity and the "k) Blender Blur"; I'm just plain and basic D: Looking forward to see what the second video is going to be about!
Thank you Ramón! This was a very informative video and I appreciate the time you have put into making this available for other Krita users. I'm looking forward to learning more about making brushes. As I'm only new to this program any information is great information. I would love to know more about the brush engines and how they differ in the manner in which they work.😊🎨
For me, this video is very relevant. I have neurological issues where it is very hard to get my muscles to draw exactly where I need to, or to precisely control my pen pressure. I'm tired of so-called artist who keep speaking over me saying *It takes time to develop muscle memory* . Then when I can't draw a straight line or have poor muscle control, they boycott me.
@@KritaOrgPainting I've been curious on how to make brushes in krita, since almost all of it confuses me- so to see this video specifically about that topic is really helpful!! ♡♡
@@KritaOrgPainting Muahaha ha ha haaaa ! Of course I watched them 4 parts.... Just I want more and especially from the God Ramon my online professor ! All I would ask from you guy's is to make shorter format vids that explain from beginning to to end , every setting of every single capability from Kiki . BC I know I would love to have tutorials like that from A to Z . And when 90% or so will be done ... Then all that's left will be the new things that are coming with major update of Krita. NOW I KNOW THAT I AM ASKING FOR INPOSSIBLE BUT I WANTED TO SAY WHAT I MISS. BC I start digital painting now and out of all applications Krita is one of a kind and a masterpiece !!!!!
I know this video is from a year ago but im having trouble understanding the pressure curve. Im trying to get a smooth transition of brush stroke from light to dark by not applying too much pressure but i think im missing something. I inputted the same exact graph that you have at 8:06 but its still not working.
Thanks, you can use the layer style and use the stroke option there. Let me know if this is what you need or where you have watched previously that effect to compare. A link with image helps too. //RM
@@KritaOrgPainting woah, didn't expect you guys to answer on my comment just generic flat brush that doesn't react with tilting feature of the tablet I missed having none of that stuff(or I am maybe just disorganised and didn't found it anywhere) - so I finally made it myself using this guide
ok, sorry for delay. The easiest way, You can select Basic 2 Round brush, and go to the brush editor and go to brushtip option on the left of the brush editor and then select Auto category and there select ratio and reduce to the amount you want.
This is insane. Still discovering Krita. Definitely the most underrated drawing software. Finally could get rid of Photoshop. And really...the deeper I get in Krita, the more in love I am. A bit confusing at first, but like true love, that's always why it lasts longer :P Thank you deeply for this explanation, it was needed ^^ (Speed sensor!!? Masked Brush options?! Interface not that intuitive, but when you get it...okay, very well thought !)
