As the Outback Wilderness Continues to evolve, we had to fix a failing component in our lighting setup. The Trigger controller has been giving us issues, and one thing we cannot deal with is equipment that fails to work after a period of time. Whether this is a one-off incident or a known problem, making the change to be able to control our lights and compressor was a necessary step in making sure this vehicle is ready for the road ahead. This week's video goes through all the steps it took to get the Auxbeam light controller installed in the Outback Wilderness and why we hope this will be a permanent solution for our Overlanding and storm chasing needs for the years to come!

I use the trigger system and for the lights not turning off all I had to do was put new batteries in the control or use the trigger app to control ur light

Tried the battery solution and it didn’t work. I’m glad to hear your trigger works for you though.

I had the very same failure you experienced with the Trigger System. During my failure to turn off, I noticed the lights on my remote were blinking steadily. I’m hoping a new battery in the remote switch will solve this problem. If not, Auxbeam here I come.

So I’m not the only one? That’s not great at all.

I have had the same issue with my trigger system. I replaced the battery in the remote and it never happened again. I stopped leaving the controller in my car because with the hot and cold changes it just kills the battery. Did you try to use the app on your phone? I used that to turn them off when that happened the last time. But I think the little button cell batteries are the issue.

Seeing you do all of this gives me a great chance to learn. I have about two years before we can get either of our cars but I’m learning so much

Just caught your video regarding the Trigger Plus - I’ve had it installed for about a year on my 22 Outback - very similar problems. Considering going the hardwired route. Would love to hear your feedback on the auxbeam system after using it for several months. I enjoy your videos - great quality and spot on info. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about the trigger, it’s a bummer it doesn’t work the way it’s designed. Auxbeam has been great. I have one in my van, my power wagon and the OBW. Have not had a single issue and have been using it for about 4 month on the OBW.

great vids, keep 'em comin'! but you may want to stick a dc-dc charger in there rather than a VSR to keep the aux battery topped off. cheers!

On my Crosstrek, I've got auxiliary lights hardwired into one of the blank switches to the left of the steering wheel. I ordered a factory fog light switch from a different model and installed it into the blank. It looks very clean, and even works with the dashboard illumination dimmer.

That’s literally genius.

Consider two sided car moulding tape. Works very well. I use them to hold my deer whistles on my OBW instead of Velcro.

That’s a solid idea. I appreciate the tip!

My auxbeam lights have held up better than my KC lights. Auxbeam makes great lights as far as Im concerned.

Tough to hear as I put the trigger 4 in my OBW after seeing your initial video. I have also had the same issue as you though when passing an oncoming car and couldn’t get it shut off right away. There’s gotta be a fix
@roamingwithjosh
@roamingwithjosh Год назад
I'm not sure if there is or not. Once my lights and compressor got stuck on I immediately ordered the aux beam. I also have it in the power wagon, but have yet to have issues with it. Hopefully it stays that way and I don't have to replace another one.

Which fuse slot did you use for the install? I’m trying to figure out and good thing you have an outback as well.

Trigger System sucks! Had it in my Crosstrek, had to shut lights off by the unit under the hood. Also batteries in remote always dies. Went with Switch-Pros in my Outback Wilderness.

That sucks to hear you had a terrible experience also! I guess I made the right choice. Thanks for the input!

Ah dude I had this playing in the background while I was working and heard you mention Bluetooth… I’m a software engineer with a masters in physics. I would never trust Bluetooth for anything that needs to be reliably connected quickly. Bluetooth is so popular because it uses so little energy and that’s really it’s only strength. Once things with a decent operating system establish a connection there’s clever ways to maintain that connection but it’s notoriously unreliable to initially establish a connection, and I’d really doubt that a place that’s geared towards this market spent a lot of money on developers trying to work out the kinks.

Where were you about 6 months ago?? I totally agree and will never trust bluetooth again for anything outside of listening to music and having a phone call.

Have you found a winch bumper for the Outback Wilderness yet? I heard they don't make one because of the turbo intercooler. Would love to hear your thoughts on a winch for the OBW.
@roamingwithjosh
@roamingwithjosh 2 года назад
I have not. But someone did send me a picture of a OBW with the warn winch bumper installed, but I couldn't any additional info on how they did it.
@azrwilkinson

The Outback does not use a front mount inter cooler. I just don’t think there is enough hard core user who are seeking a winch yet.
@spazsolo

Warn says it has to do with the active shutter grill used on all outbacks with the 2.4 turbo engine. I've read about people trying to modify their Wilderness to take the Warn bumper and running into tons of issues

Mine my Trigger system failed when the battery on the controller was low. It sends a signal to the Trigger when is not being operated.
@roamingwithjosh
@roamingwithjosh 2 года назад
I didn’t even take the time to try to see if that was it. I probably should have, but I’m super happy with the auxbeam at the moment
@Jshanks19

The Trigger is a good starting unit, but I hate the controller! Using my phone works better, but that’s not optimal.
@roamingwithjosh
@roamingwithjosh 2 года назад
I agree. The trigger is extremely simple and anyone can do it which makes it appealing, but the auxbeam i'm using has performed so much better so far and I probably never go back to a bluetooth system.
