I have made something similar with just condensed milk and coco powder. It was MESSY, but delicious.

Fascinating! I had no idea you could make candy from sweetened condensed milk. I used to make what I called caramel from it - it wasn't real caramel, but was much easier to make. You just boil the unopened can (the traditional can, not the ring-pull type) for quite a while, if I recall, 2-3 hours, depending on how dark you wanted the sauce to be. It was decades before I found out that this kind of fake caramel was actually dulce de leche, a sweet that's well-known in Latin America. Talking about types of milk - I've noticed lately that powdered milk seems to be less common and less easy to find in my local supermarkets. I don't use a lot of it so I don't buy it often. I rarely use milk, but keep powdered milk on hand in case I need to mix some milk up to make pancakes or something similar. Canned milk, no problem (that's regional, in my part of Canada but not others canned evaporated milk is really popular especially for use in coffee instead of regular milk or cream), also canned cream and canned sweetened condensed milk. There's lots of fresh milk too, in various sizes and types. Maybe not enough people are buying the powdered milk for the stores to keep it in stock. It does tend to be a bit expensive.

And now your kids don't have to spend their lunch money! It looks great - like a toffee that used to be sold at Hallowe'en here, that I like though about which there is controversy. ;) Interestingly, condensed milk is quite expensive (relatively) where I live, too. Definitely something purchased rarely as a treat in my kitchen.

Thanks, I haven't seen that recipe before. Does it set rock hard or is it still chewy?

This looks like a simple but very tasty candy recipe! I also wonder how people are able to shape it with their bare hands. I have to assume that you get calluses built up on your hands, if you work with it often enough. I bet it hurts a lot until then! I don't know if it's available in Nigeria, but in the US there is a product called Ove Glove. It's a Kevlar heat resistant oven mitt. Something like that may be useful for making hot candy like this

Wow that's really interesting how it turned out. Have you ever tried using it spread as a topping on a cake base?

I wonder if using a pizza cutter would be easier? I’m definitely going to try making this myself. Thank you for the demonstration!!

Vanilla is very concentrated. Maple syrup is not, so probably you needed a tablespoon or more to make a real maple flavour. Next time!
