Making Copper Ingots might be a good way for some scrappers to maximise their scrap copper value.
Check out my recommended safety products, Furnaces & stuff on amazon.. www.amazon.com...
I recommend this Furnace.. amzn.to/2wr7G2k
It uses Propane Gas which is much cheaper to run with no problems like burning out the element and gives you better options for crucibles like stainless steal or cast iron which last a long time.
Watch more of my melting videos.. goo.gl/vALmxS
many people like to stack metals like gold & silver bullion, whilst copper is only an industrial metal and has low value compared to gold, stacking copper is fun.
Aluminium Ingots are another, although I find pouring Al' is harder because of the dross you need to deal with during the melt and whilst pouring the ingot.

You could sell them for more than scrap if you pour them into aluminium blocks like are doing now and machine them into square blocks, you could also use your bars to cast things that you could sell with a markup.

hey Ben! when you are pouring the aluminium in the mold i see that you trow all the melted aluminium in there..... leave a little bit in the big crucible because it smelts much easier and faster. saves valuble money and time! greets ritch!!!!

pour them in small cans so you can sell round stock. guys with metal lathes can use round stock for making projects. then $10 to $15 is perfect. you can even use different size metal pipes for a variety of sizes and lengths.

I've been making my round stock in galvanized pipes, I burn the galvanized coating off or use uncoated when I can. Weld 2 or 3 tabs to pipe so I can use a 8 ton lever action jack to push stock out of pipe. I thread a cap on end to seal then pour. Just cut off the ends to square and you can use any diameter pipe cut to any length as long as you have a way to push it out. Be very careful not to get air bubbles that will explode when cooling. If you use coffee or soup cans they can be stripped off if you have ripples in cans.

I like the fact that your furnace is electrical. If you're going to melt on a consistent basis I'm thinking of getting one and hooking it up to solar panels to take out my overhead. What do you think? Also I like the idea of melting because it's easy for storage. You can hold on to them until the price is right at the scrap yard. And the biggest reason is there's no discrepancy on price when you bring them in. They can always drill a hole and look at a sample so they know it's not fake. Love your video. 👍😎🇨🇦

Ya not really that requires way more work than the bar would be worth as pure copper anyway plus it would be super hard to hide a metal that melts at 500 degrees inside of 1800 degree+ liquid copper

It would be nice if in your videos when you are talking about your equipment if you could mention some specs. What is the size or volume or what ever they use to describe your crucible or your molds. Basically if someone watches some of your videos and thinks to them selves "I want to do what he's doing. I'm going on Ebay to search for some equipment." When you search for stuff, there is no reference or dimensions. If you mention that your crucible is rated a size 5 cocks or what ever unit they use, people can say, that is exactly what I want or I want something bigger than that so I know to search for more than 5 cocks.

Alu. is $19 per kilo. If you work out the time you spent gathering the scrap, tearing it down, melting it down. Then you might be working for $5 per hour. You can add value to the copper or aluminium by making the metals into molded functional or decorative items. Copper bar as an electrical load, when calibrated for current can be sold for much more than the copper (as an example). [Subscribed just now, love your vids]

I also melt aluminium down and make some stuff out of it too at the moment i have a aluminium skull well half of one just the way it turned out snd a aluminium star which both i still have to clean up but you can always make neat stuff out of it and sell it for a bit and i do bars also which wouldnt sell has high though and i do have some cooper stuff and oh i do have a huge star trek aluminium badge thing which has a slight indent in the middle just the way the aluminum goes because its a soft metal but i will use it has a paperweight

Bugger all because all they will give you is the current rate per weight which doesn't take into account the overhead efforts to make bars. I know this because ive sold them solid buss-bars from electrical cabinets and then they even tried to do me out of weight to keep the expense down for themselves. The sneeky little turd was putting counter weights on his scales so the weight would look like 16% less than it actually was. I was his scale technician and my job was to ensure his scales would read correctly. Just as well I didn't go by his scales before I calibrated them because he would have taken around $109 out of my pockets. He was confronted and I told him that if I catch him doing this again then I`ll be reporting him. It was the 2nd time he`d been caught already but he claimed he didn't know - typical liar.

You Omit to mention how much electricity you use to pour a Bar of either Aluminum or copper Have you ever put a Killowatt meter or the like on the circuit to check out how viable changing its form to a bar is? then deducting that cost from the sale price? If you added your petrol vehicle maintenance onto it to go and find the scrap and getting rid of all the waist, your time you are probably running at a considerable loss Unless you own a Metal scrap yard that it and have a alternative energy supply at hand ? Running creek ?

Where? no it wouldn't be pence to run do your own calculations I am no mathematician and in this case even blind Freddy could see that to bring a electric furnace from cold to approx 1200f melting Aluminum or copper to a flowing melting point it would have to chew into your profits then if you left it on and refilled it for another pour and did this for say an hour it would have to cost money Then as aluminum for example is varied in quality depending what you use for your raw material IE would say Car alternators be a better quality Bar than the same size in Used cool drink cans ? or even heat sinks and so on that surely has to effect the prices I have had a 1 kw grid tied solar system working for over 6 years also another nearly 1100w stand alone hybrid system ( wind and solar) working for same time you become very very Conscious of energy use over that time I doubt I could heat up a furnace for any time without being also on the grid power as it would flatten my battery bank in doing so I am on 240v herein Australia but I would think a furnace would have to use approx 3 to 5 kw of power an hour if not more a kitchen kettle uses 2400w albeit to get up to boiling temps for water for only a short time surely 1200f temps would have to take 20 minutes? ish ? then to bring the metal to pour temps I am just trying folks to bring to your attention be careful on your losses I'm 57 years old and have d Moved out of home 38ish years ago you tend to have to keep in mind all these extra costs when you have to pay the bills even using gas to fire a furnace would have to be added into your costs I wpould think some sort of Modified Rocket stove or burning Waste oil in a furnace would be the best way to go esp if you have a source of free wood or used oil then you would have to go and get it it all adds up and eats into your profits I love the idea and would love to try myself and will one day esp if I can do so and use surplus heat from say a blacksmith forge Tony

I apologize Ben didn't mean to sound like a troll I was more concerned with amount of effort you put in to collect, sort, strip , melt and then hope to sell it all eats into your profits, often people don't take into account the other costs for the self employed and end up wondering why they arent getting ahead I love the idea of making something useful out of recyclable items But we have to keep the realities in mind as well Tony

Checked aluminum prices - UBC (Aluminum Cans) $0.40 per pound eBay 1 Lb Aluminum Ingots for casting $2.25 So more like 5-6 times the value...assuming you can find anyone willing to buy said bars. The thing to remember is time, effort and cost to turn scrap into ingots for resale - more often than not the value simply isn't there. Instead, you should only be turning scrap into ingots if you intend to use that yourself for some project as the profit margin is so relatively small that it will take quite some time to simply break even on the cost of your initial investment. Let's also not forget time as well - you've got a thousand aluminum cans that you turn into 25 pounds of ingots so you sell them for $56.25. That'll take about six hours and you'll kill a whole tank of gas, $15 for a refill in my area, so $41.25 divided by 6 hours works out to $6.88/hour - average starting pay for McDonalds in the US is $9.48/hour.

I don't cast molds myself, not yet anyway, but I have read that preheating them ensures that there is absolutely no moisture and thus no bubbling. I have also read that this depends on the type of mold being used. Preheating also ensures that the molten metal sets more evenly. This is just what I have read in forums and blogs, like I said, I have no first hand experience yet.

from what I've seen purifying gold and silver from volume barrels of PCBs and pins then making ingots from a homemade furnace using a manufactured crucible is the best money maker.. Put them on ebay and it'a tens of dollars per gram.. cool thing is it's simple math. You do a batch and you have your profitable logistics laid out.. Try to source volume material deals and even try to get plant grade equipment..

$40k worth of gold? about 6 pc's, 8 monitors, 16 vacuum cleaners and 7 pop up toasters should do it.

What is the buyers goal with these vs silver or gold maybe same silver is mostly industrial i dont know if copper moves with them ?
@eWasteBen

copper moves differently to gold, it's probably affordability, people like big stacks 1lb copper is a few bucks, 1lb gold is 20k

If you plan to sell on the open market, use the commodity's price index. You'll get better returns and you'll be selling at fair market value. Always check each day. -Advid Investor- Good luck to you. I wish you the best.👍😁

How many cans does it take to make a brick like that?? and that is a pretty good furnace. Do you find you need to use different Crucibles fir different metals to keep out contamination??
@fishmut

i would go by weight , if all your cans weigh 1 pound then thats about what you will get minus the waste you take off the top which wouldn't be much if any .

hello, i want to adopt and learn this hobby. please tell what do i need to buy from your amazon link and what videos i need to watch. i want to do this in my apartment if possible. my electricity is free.

You would need some serious ventilation, when adding copper it will smoke up a lot, toxic to breath it. For a start the 3kg electric furnace first on my list is a good start, you will need a good supply of crucibles, melting copper eats them up quick

Electricity is not ever free... If u think u got "free electricity" because electricity use is included in your rent, then you will probably be evicted when the owners get the bill and realise your an asshole who took advantage of their trust. But if you somehow have free electricity through renewable energy you are making yourself, then ignore the previous stuff.
