The software slices the model into very thin layers. Each layer is than displayed as a 2D image on an LCD screen. Behind the screen is an Ultra Violet light that shines through exposing the UV sensitive resin for 8 seconds solidifying that image on the build platform. Those layers get stacked into the final model as the process repeats.
