Even as inflation slows, the price of food, rent, health care and other things remain much higher than they were before the pandemic. And many Florida households are struggling to make ends meet.
I wish they would stop saying that people cannot afford since Covid payments stopped. Let’s look at the bigger picture people cannot afford be cause of the runaway prices and price gouging of goods and services since Covid. 🙄But yet companies are making record profits. 🧐
Yes the American Oligarchy is swimming in money. When you are driven by greed and see other American's as dogs to be trampled THIS is the result but we do worship at the feet of people like Elon Musk.
It’s not everywhere. Just the states that had influxes of Californians and New Yorkers flood them during Covid. Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, Nashville Tennessee all exploded in cost of living. Mid western states and Mississippi/Alabama are still affordable.
In the US it’s worst where housing costs are high. Crushes local small businesses when people don’t have spending money left after paying for necessities
Florida is one of the lowest paying states in the country. The leaders in that state are missing the boat for the people of the state. It’s a great state for businesses though. They get to keep more of their profits.
Lowest pay and high cost of basic living. Can barely make modest ends meet working for the State of FL. Rent & housing expenses, reliable transportation, car insurance, groceries, health care....As an older person, I am in the market for a 2nd job. FL is business friendly, but not necessarily wage supporting of the average person. We must do what we can to spiritually & financially survive. The gap between the "haves" and the "have nots" continues to widen; middle class is on par with the working class poor. 😢
I am speculating that because Florida is essentially a tourist destination and not a manufacturing hub, taxes are not as high as other places where manufacturing is key. Florida does have some businesses, but many are geared either directly or indirectly toward the tourist needs, such as hotel infrastructure, boats, seafood, landscaping, condos, chartering, restaurants, janitorial, retail, malls, theme parks, etc. Tourist areas it seems have priced out the very people who keep it going. As people from the northern states have come here to retire or vacation, many businesses have become greedy and have not responded to worker's needs. We are a "right to work" state, and one dare not even mention "union." It is possible that with all the influx of illegal migrants, low-paying jobs will get a boost, and since they often share homes/apts. with many others and split the rent/utilities many ways, they can settle here and live, when locals cannot.

I can't afford to vacation in Florida, let alone be low income with children and live there. So many have children then wonder how to afford them. Family planning needs to be first.
I've never even visited Florida but it looks so beautiful. I can't afford to vacation there so I can't imagine trying to live there. I had to leave California for the same thing. Best thing I ever did was move where I could afford and got a better eduction so I could earn more.
It's the elephant in the room. But no one wants to talk about it. I have brought it up a couple of dozen times, and you can hear crickets. I have very few people commenting on that issue. When I do get someone willing to poke their head out, they will say they drive an old car and are so glad to have no car payments and exceedingly low insurance rates. Others will tell me they need it for long distance commuting to work. But mostly crickets.
Well I’m paying $640 monthly for a 21 Honda odyseey, yes I know that’s steep but the interest rate was 10.8% even with my credit over 700. The dealers couldn’t finance anything under $14.600 and I needed a sturdy, dependable van for my business pretty much asap, I already did the cash for used van thing but I felt regardless it was time for a upgrade
@@boni_traxton9436 If you are making excellent money and your rent/mortgage is really low, have no credit card debt and are frugal with your spending, your van payment plus the insurance to cover it shouldn't be too much of an issue. It is those who unfortunately are already in debt and who believe they deserve a nicer vehicle are the ones who keep themselves at the financial wire every month. I've been there, and it's not pretty. I want everyone to find ways to not spend crazy money when it's not needed so they can relax as prices for everything keep going up. Thank you for sharing!
That’s what I wanted to say. I’m sorry but we were warned inflation was going to happen. So many people gave their house payment, two new cars, the latest electronic gadgets and big credit card balances. Just because you could lake the payments it doesn’t mean you can afford it. Also so many of them have lo emergency savings.
@@yellowbird5411 I live with parents, I have 3 credit cards so yes there is some things I owe but I’m never late on any payments, and the 3 cards come really handy like 2 front tires which were $540
The wages in Florida, a "right to work " state that really means you have no rights is a disgrace in regard to how they treat workers. The wages are a disgrace, and benefits are a joke. I moved to Florida from Washington state and my wage went from $30 and hour to $15 to $20 with no paid holidays, no Christmas bonus and medical insurance that pays for a fraction of the bill. In other words you can't afford to go to the doctor. Meanwhile rents and food prices are high just like everywhere else.
I love that this story is about Florida but the comments want to make it about Biden. Are we unable to hold DeSatan accountable for his lack of leadership?
Desantis does not run the country and is not responsible for the run a way inflation that the nation has faced for 3.5 years. It you want to blame anyone, this sh}t belongs at the feet of Joe 𝘿𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖 Biden inflation for the past 3.5 years. Shalom
@@ThaOlBoy Well, looking at the numbers, that is a *very* tough "argument" to sell, neighbor. I will take you up on it though, simply bc I like winning. 😁 Meanwhile, we *did* just get new, pointlessly politicized state signs at the borders! 💸 No insurance for our homes or businesses, though. 😭 Also? Sliding education levels! (He *did* say he'd protect kids & stop indoctrination, but when will he close the Catholic schools?) 🤦🏻 Yay! Effective leadership at work, I reckon!
@@WorldWarIVXXUnaffordable Housing, 25% increase in insurance, 100% drop of all Floridian flood insurance policies by insurance companies in FL, 30% increase in individual taxes to cover 1.6 million in security costs during presidential campaign, increased property taxes to spend on teachers salaries that make more currently than parents and on anti woke agendas.
If it’s so tough out there, how come restaurants are full every evening? Many of these restaurants have long lines of people waiting to get in, believe it or not. How come record numbers of people are paying for air travel and hotels, if they can’t afford rent or groceries? Airline profits are also through the roof. Something doesn’t add up. And I don’t even know what to believe anymore.
true overspending and living beyond ones means is not unique to one country. But sometimes leaders need to do better economically. Look at Argentinas recent turn around. First time in 30 years they have zero food inflation
So many people living beyond their means with $700+ car notes trying to look good. When it gets repossessed, the situation gets worse! Debt, Death, Deaf and Dead are bad words!
I can honestly say it’s not just the fancy cars it’s all of them the raggedy ones too the payments are wayyyy too high…and to fix them when they brake down cost even more
@@Netcentric-fk6ek there is something called the working poor. With inflation plenty are working and need help. You're out of touch and need to make your own stand alone comment instead of talking to someone you do not know. And you definitely wouldn't say this to me if you ever met me.
This is the results of ceo corps aswell small business using the advantages of cheap labor in what was a prominent country & state . Now the wage suppression has went on for to long & physical working class can no long pay for their survival. End game
And Trump lowering taxes for the rich and placing tariffs of imported goods will help them how? How much of their budgets go toward car and property insurance. Thank DeSantis for that.
Getting off the junk food and snacks will save you bunches. I'm going on 5 years whole foods. I don't know how much I've saved but I know it's a lot. and I feel great. I weigh 110 lbs at 5"4. then again If my power goes out all my food will go bad, except the dry goods like beans and rice nuts and seeds.
Whole organic chickens are still less than three bucks a pound. You can buy a big bag of rice for next to nothing. Peppers and onions are still reasonable. Throw in some spices and you have a feast for next to nothing, that will last for days. Most people would rather drive through some place and eat some processed junk. Too lazy to cook ,and wonder why they're bloated, sick, and broke.

Please, explain how DeSantis is responsible for the high inflation across the country? He was governor during Trump and the pandemic. He had our economy so strong during the pandemic we didn't even need the tourism that year.

Florida, maybe our economy needs to change. Corporate billionaires and corporations are why life is always hard. Get them to pay their fair share of taxes. Ever wondered why many working people qualify for aid. Because we are subsidize the corporations crappy wages. Inflation is generated by the big boys up the food chain, we get the trickle down.
