A University of North Florida study found that Duval County is the eviction filing capital of the state, and corporations are behind a majority of eviction filings in the Jacksonville area.
@@francismarion6400and take a wild guess who's causing the "inflation"? For example, farmers are reporting that the cost to grow the food has remained the same, the grocery chains however charged more, take a WILD guess where all the extra money is going to since it's all the same?
Glad somebody got it right with right word GREED. And every damn thing is going up and up and up. I just redid my monthly budget and made some cuts. And I only leave the house once a week now so I'm not tempted to spend on a fancy.
Taxpayers are paying for the assistance programs for decades, regardless of increases in rent. Sheesh... They are not going to rent a market value apartment of $2,000 for $500, which might be something that you can afford.
My downtown apartment was sold while I was renting it. They tried to evict me at that point for the new owners to move in. Unfortunately for them, they didn't check that my lease had a purchase option, so I basically told them I was considering purchasing the unit. So if it wasn't for their stupid mistake, I would have been evicted. Instead, now they had a huge legal time bomb, and that purchase option was the only way I was able to stay the remainder of my lease without being harassed. I had no intention of buying it because I simply couldn't afford it, but they didn't know that, and I'm sure there were some very heated arguments behind closed doors 😅
Its intentional. Get the people raging over things that they'll probably never encounter instead of the things that decrease the quality of life for 98% of Americans and people willingly lap it up.
The more our 'leaders' say it's about the border and gays taking over your bathrooms, the more you know you are getting duped and distracted from the real issues. The ones that put money in their pockets and out of yours.
The real issue is that a lot of these "Firms" that are buying up properties in Florida are not just out-of-state, they are from agents from other countries buying them. I looked up several properties that have been purchased in my area and they being bought by LLC's and Corporations, but when you try to verify who is in charge of the LLC or Corp through sites like Sunbiz you lead to a dead end of PO Boxes and throw away email accounts. The names are often foreign names and a search for the name will reveal that they only are on a single asset with no other affiliated business or occupation. It is very shady at the least. For contrast, on a typical property search you usually get a lot of information about the owner.
In a few years? There's tons of homeless people but most don't care or notice until they get closer that situation or in that situation..... Then it's too late.
But what about all those jobs Joe has provided? Welfare should be shrinking ( but it’s not) and by the way,.. welfare is simply other people’s money , right ? 🤷♂️

This is not just in Jacksonville Florida...I am a professional whose income has actually gone down (apparently Mental Health Counseling is not valuable despite education amd licensing requirements) but in SWFL my rent went from $1250 to $2350 in 7 years. And as a single mom I have had to continue to eliminate other expenses for my child like summer camp, tutoring, extracurricuars and vacations. I feel so sad that my child has had a different life because of greedy landlords and impervious politicians
@@Artoconnell well check what Duval County voted for. the same form of governance that many flee Commiefornia and NY to be here in Florida - the masses dont want to learn anything ..
And they wonder why nobodys Having kids and getting married, meanwhile your rent just increased by 400 dollars and your served an eviction notice. Corporate GREED is killing us off.
This is what happens when you don't put rails on capitalism. It's sad to see how these business and corporations get all the assistance and leave the working men and women out to dry.
I really don't like that I've relocated here to Florida. For such a great state why is it so difficult to get any answers from the government about anything? I've never encountered so many scammers and fraud than here. Erie, PA has laxed laws for tenants, but here in Jax, they should be teaching the kids in school on how to spot a scam before they start participating in the economy.
My whole family lived there for over 4 years. We couldn’t do it anymore. Moved back to my hometown in the Midwest and so glad I did. Got scammed the first month I was there lol got my money back though.
How are people with bad credit supposed to buy anything? They're not. That's the way credit works. Are you suggesting that we do away with credit scoring?
Florida is a successful state and you’ve had many escape there from California, New York City and other liberal cities from virus restrictions. That causes housing shortages and rent increases. Biden also let in 12 million people and they get housing too. It’s not DeSantis fault but dem policies
I have lived in Florida 40 years. Since 2021 been watching people moving out. People can’t afford it. Elderly people are starving! Rents have doubled and tripled!
My opinion is this whole mess has been plotted and planned since 2019. You will own nothing and be Happy. Biden administration on a spending spree and the printing presses are still printing money. The more that is printed the higher the inflation goes. Where it stops no one knows. Local governments raise tax assessments, insurance companies raising insurance and we will be seeing more homeless. These few years have not been normal.
If out of state or country investors aren’t stopped Florida will become another California or New York… Most of Florida used to be down to earth normal people now crazies are set to take over… Sad
Totally…not “crazies” but foreigners who have cash $$$$! And corporate real estate investors! Allow renters to use portion of rental payments as deductible on taxes and see what the outcome will be? The number one cause of increases in housing, but solutions should be attainable!
Want to know who's pulling the strings? Look at companies like Blackrock. This is all happening on purpose and the big real estate holder control all the money and power!
Hear is what you don’t willfully I believe understand, you and other Floridans could only wish to be like New York where I live, New York have much much better tenant protection laws, which is why these corporations are going to states like Florida thanks to your precious governor who has done nothing to protect the Floridans citizens not to mention also unlike new York and California raise the minimum wage
Thx4 report ..Gov DeSantis too busy signing Fl hate speech law in Israeli .. representing those who politically donate ( like developers) not the people .. shelter is a BASIC NEED
And you "shelter is a human right" socialists are expecting landlords to pick up the tab. Someone had to work to build that shelter so they deserve to get paid for their effort. The landlord also deserves to be compensated for their investment. People should not get housing without giving an equal benefit in return.
Gov descent is has done some great things like protecting our children and getting rid of DEI. He now needs to focus on getting private equity out of buying single family homes. The demand for housing has gone so high because private equity buys up whole developements. This makes all rent become unaffordable. Homelessness is very bad for all of society!
@@robertmanley2687 there needs to be laws restricting corporations and did you catch the part where the state now forbids local municipalities from implementing rent control?
This is happening all over the country, not just florida. Developers are coming in all these days. But of all these properties and pushing people out, where are they gonna go? They can't afford the rent as it is. Most of our lawmakers in congress don't do a damn thing for the people they just enrich themselves.
The District of Cleawater has buildings infested with termites. Recently, helped a friend move who had to throw out her wood furniture because the problem is so bad they had migrated into much of her furniture. They've been aware of the problem and still rent out units--and there is nothing tenents can do. If you complain--they evict you or charge so much more you can't stay. Bayside Harbors has buildings infested with rats, and rotted wood and only do repairs when you move out and don't fix the underlying problems. These are classified as "Luxury apartments" and there is no one to fix them. Management has no authority, and you cannot reach the owners of these LLCs.
The rents are high everywhere. California rent is high too. They ask tenants to make two times the rent in the past 3 years ago, now they want three times the rent. They don't paint. The landlords don't clean up. It's not safe. The landlords don't want to fix or repair anything unless it is a leak.
That’s Florida for you!!!! In 4 years my rent went up to almost $500 but salary is the same 😂 what a joke … ain’t right and state government do nothing to help …
Are you saying the government should allow tenants to stay in privately owned apartment units without paying rent? Shouldn't the deadbeat tenant be evicted so that apartment can then be made available to someone else who is actually willing to pay the rent? Or do you prefer available rental units to be in short supply with even higher rents?
@@stevetaxpayer6664they should ban out of country buyers, maybe even out of state, from buying property, at least while there's a crisis going on. Or they could cap rent increases, tying it to inflation rates. I love how you are turning this around on renters, like they're being deadbeats, when this is beyond paying reasonable rent rates. Nothing about what's going on has anything to do with what renters are doing. Blaming them right after your hearing from the news that this is a direct result of a state making it easy to abuse renters...
State government - state laws. Do you think Republicans are going to change it? They have the same kinds of laws that PUNISH COMPLAINING TENANTS in Oklahoma and other Republican majority ruled states. Why are people surprised?
@@stevetaxpayer6664 what a clueless comment. Let them eat cake for there is no more bread. The government can create laws to protect tenants. Very different from your Utopian version of let them eat cake. People in Florida are already moving to Alabama where housing is more affordable. It's like San Francisco where average workers can't afford to live there only the tech people in Silicon Valley. People who clean offices should not have to commute over two hours each way to go to work so they can afford to rent.
It’s not the government,it’s the people taking huge money for their homes being greedy, put the blame where it belongs,if they didn’t sell we wouldn’t have this problem.it’s not the government signing property deeds over it’s y’all.

Funny Republican run florida is supposed to be sunshine and rainbows right? Vote Republican and Democrat if you want to keep the corporate slave train running.
You’re joking right? People fled to FL because of pandemic restrictions in blue states. Dumb people keep moving to FL thinking that it will be cheaper than their home state. It never was, it was appropriately priced prior to democrats fleeing to Tampa, Miami, and Orlando bidding 50k over asking price and flipping houses to infinity. There’s always a moron like you in the comment sections though.
So sad Texas is lime this too. The developers are buying up properties and charging ridiculous rates and charging tenants for things that they are suppose to pay for as a landlord. Abbott is doing nothing about that either. Hell keep this up and we all are going to be running for the border and im not talking Taco Bell. Its getting crazy. If rent was capped and controlled the developers wouldn't do this. A home built in 1953 3bdrm 2 bath 2500 in a crime neighborhood just crazy
That's the one scenario the government wants to prevent; it doesn't want to build apartment lest the tenants start to consider their apartment an entitlement they deserve regardless of whether or not they pay rent. The current tactic of state and local governments is therefore to limit the power of private landlords just a smidge before it's considered an unconstitutional taking of private property.
I wonder how long the corps can keep this up before they implode. If peopel cant pay they cant make money just seems greedy and crazy. They must have a plan that well have to wait to see fall into place. Just keep rents in the range that can keep people housed, apartments full, and make a profit. This is sick.
Spoiler alert: This was the firm’s goal. It’s gentrification! Price out all the current tenants, then raise the property value via (gated, luxury, high end condos/studio apartments). The cities have done this for decades via condemning “low income properties” as unsafe, not up to code, fines via citations etc. If penalties aren’t paid in full? The property & assets in question, are ceased!
Governor DeSantis needs to do something about this . He likes to protect our rights. This is against moral decency, it's GREED. Part of our rights should be to have a place to call home. Everything on this planet is just going to extremes .

People have been saying that since the 1950s. Then it was global freezing in the 70's, now it's overheating, weather and climate changes are normal and it has to do with the sun "solar winds" which is radiation, and the Burkland currents in space.
There is a need for a Florida State Law needed that limits annual rent increases, and if able at a local level to Fine landlord’s that neglect their properties
Tenants should ban together, gather signatures and create a Nationwide coalition to fight for at least 50% of yearly rental payments as tax deductions. It will bring an end to corporate greed and reduce homelessness! When residents are unable to maintain a roof over their heads legally, illegal activities will continue to increase. ✌🏽
Small hat corporations from NYC and California are the worstttt!!! They want to drive out demographics and rent to who they prefer. They should complain for pay increases, their own mayor allowed this knowing what would happen.
A very sad cycle. The investors swoop in, defer maintenance, jack up rent, evict everyone, then demolish the older complexes and build new luxury apartments that only those making 9+ figures can afford.
This is what Americans get for being too passive and focusing on nonissues. Gone are the days where Politicians respected who they work for ( American citizens) . It’s all a circus now and Americans let it happen. Too busy scrolling .
I learned the hard way, Florida is for wealthy retirees, working people should go somewhere else. Your life will improve %100 when you leave Florida because it is a working persons hell.
People complain about New York but states like Florida got no protection for their residents. They need to vote those people out of office on the state level and bring in new legislators that will help people beginning with the governor.
Landlords should absolutely have every right to evict non paying tenants without any push back from the state, its theft to restrict these rights and allow tenants to remain in the units without paying.
Realtors in florida selling the states ,telling people to move there, its beautiful without saying the negative part of it.they know exactly when too many people are coming to florida, the cost of living would be very expensive.

This hit piece is completely ridiculous. Of course corporate entities own multi family real estate because those assets cost in the millions of dollars. Secondly, as an investor here in Florida, it’s very difficult to make a decent return on investment property because taxes (government), insurance rates, high interest rates and labor/ supply costs are skyrocketing. Those increases must be covered by the tenant payments or else the property can’t meet its basic expenses and goes into foreclosure. It’s just like any other business folks.
Anytime the corporate media end anything with "a study finds", all you need to do is find out who paid for the study. America needs a decentralized media asap
