After two videos of cutting and grinding, we're finally into the welding part of the project. This is mostly the easy subassembly work, but we do get into a little of the tricky fitment that was a big part of this project. I designed these forks around the cutoff piece of my well casing which was just about perfect for the main structural body of the weldment. Being round made it very torsionally strong, but it also made it hard to measure and align.
Honestly, this just kind of made it more fun. Figuring out how to accurately relate everything was a real puzzle. In this video the only tricky bit was aligning the main lugs to the tube, which isn't too hard because a few degrees of freedom are just gimmies. As the project progresses this gets more and more interesting as each new feature welded on has to correctly relate to all previous work.
Add to that the fact that my table is neither flat nor level, and we get a lot of playing around with shims and wedges getting things correctly related.
