Hi, I used hair conditioner on my imitation leather and it really turned the brown paper dark which was what I was after, also made it very soft to the touch. Have made book covers out of it as well as tags and book markers. The conditioner made it smell nice too. 😃 happy leather making. 👍🌹
Need to give this a try. I’ve always used the paper bag and run it through the Sizzix in embossing folders. Then cut it up for collage. Just recently discovered rubbing Distress Oxide on and wetting the paper. Love how it runs and gives an almost marbled, muted effect. As always, thanks for sharing.
Oh WOW...That is really cool! I have seen others doing the faux leather thing, and have always wanted to try it. I really do like your way. It turned out so nice. Can't wait to see it completely dry and your stitching all around. Thanks for taking us along! Hugs 💟 Suzy
Been doing this for years! Don’t stop at book covers … great for many paper projects. Use to wrap round toliet paper and paper towel cardboard centers to create art/desk storage. Around a oatmeal round box to create storage for tall items. I always use 3 coats of clear coat on finished product. Won’t let me add a photo.
Hello Ms E., I've seen this procedure, but some were a lil more intense r should I say detailed. I want something simple, not so detailed I would say No Way!! Thank you for the simplicity of this technique. when do you put the conditioner on. I think I missed this part. TYFS ur creative ideas!!! Blessings to you!!! Have a wonderful day!!! waiting to see what u do next!! 😊🦋
If you are using a thick paper then put the conditioner on after you apply the ink and water. Then just rub some conditioner on your hands and rub it into the paper.
OH MY GOODNESS! I just found out who Melina is! I've been enjoying her tutorials for years though I only recently subscribed! Lol Guess it's true, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

O Miss E-I have watched a number of videos showing how to make faux leather and I agree that your way seems to be the best IMO. Now I know what to do with all my Chewy packing papers LOL. Thank you for sharing all your goodness with us. Hugs and blessings.
Oh my goodness, I just made faux leather this weekend and was going to send to you as a surprise, I should have known you already knew how to make it and now you are making it! Great minds think alike! Hahaa it will be fun to follow along and maybe create along with you, I usually learn from you then try to make it. I received my order and just love everything. I got Melina's stitch stencil she designed, the cradle, the CD holders, doilies and the added mystery box you had put together. Thank you E, just love Everything in my order! I have loved everything I have ordered from your shop, I have one AJ kit and loved it so much I signed up! Thank you, thank you!!!
I like to use a spritz made from a 50/50 mix of glycerine and water. No other conditioning needed. Also when all is dryer and complete, I add some wax type shoe polish, and it seems like real leather
Hi Edith. I hope you guys are doing well. This is such a pretty leather journal coverr. Crrumple up the brown paper into your hand is a great stress reliever. Is it good to use shoe polish instead of ink? I saw someone did that. Have a awesome day. Thank you so much for all your great crafting.
I use acrylic paint, just a thin coat with an almost dry brush. Bonus point: it does not react to the mod podge, because acrylic is not water soluble once dried.
I also used hair conditioner made big and small books love how they turned out and thank you for sharing I'm gonna try to make some tags and book marks.😘
