Why not?

I beg to differ. I used to live in Tacoma, WA (now in TX), and 'trash' wood is fair game for firewood wherever you are. Alder burns cleanly, doesn't throw off an inordinate amount of soot/creosote, gives decent (not great) heat for the weight, and is very sustainable...what's not to like? Additionally, the trees fix nitrogen; outside of locust and mesquite, not many other trees do...

I like alder as firewood. I like the smell when it burns and it's very fast growing, easy to cut and split. You are right, what's not to like.
