first rule of big spinning driveshafts and ptos.... NO LOOSE STRAPS. thats the fastest way to really really ruin your day. one miss step and your hand goes buhbye.

Alright a tip from my Grandfather, when you are ready to install those transmission boots, put it in some hot water and dish soap for a minute to let it expand, they make them too small now, I actually put on proper some years back and when it got cold it still split, make sure the groove is cleaned out good. Oh when you had that hole too much air, so with new pipe, it’s too rich, the small holes are terrible about gumming out and the ethanol fuel is different weight so idle is impossible to get right. Another tip, in short hay slow down the pto close to 1/3 throttle and it will allow you to pick up better 2nd gear and 1/3 throttle you get most of it at full speed short bay waterfalls bad.

I spent many hours behind the wheel of one of these tractors with a flail mower on it.

Oh nice, 👍 I’ve never used a flail mower, maybe I’ll come across one in my travels, I am curious about them.

Most hydraulic dip sticks are missing the grab loop because the farmer would unknowingly get the loop caught on the bottom of his pant leg when dismounting and would loose the dipstick, so they would purposely tear the loop off.

Maybe I should keep a stockpile of them 😂

That clicking on the rake is normal it’s a slip joint when you make turns it won’t hurt anything with the different size tires
@SteddieProjects
@SteddieProjects 10 месяцев назад
Yeah, that’s true. The only time it bothers me is when I go take care of another place that’s a 7-8 miles from the shop. I pull everything there with the truck. And at higher speeds I feel like somethings going to come apart.😂 figured better safe than sorry, and then I don’t have to hear it. I know it’s made to do that, but it makes me cringe a little every time I hear it.😆 thanks for watching!

I pulled the bailer to a friend's farm and used his 65 horse tractor to bail!! The redbelly front wheels were off the ground most of the trip!!! I steered with the brake pedals!!!! Bailers are to heavy for those tractors!!! They were even hard on the next version which was the jubilee!!!
@SteddieProjects
@SteddieProjects Год назад
Yeah, that’s a fun ride! I did some bush hogging on the side hill for the neighbor, and had to steer with the brakes as the front wheels were worthless in that situation. Maybe a little dangerous…..I feel like that’s a whole Nother skill of driving tractor……..but what a cool design(brake steering)!…….. those old timers were quite the engineers.

@@SteddieProjects yeah I've had backhoes and bulldozers but loved the 8n!!! My grandpa bought it in 52 brand new!!! 5 generations have driven it!!! I'm proud of that!!!!

That’s awesome! Mine is a 1951. It’s cool when multiple generations run the same machinery.

Since you put the original air cleaner on there, you're probably sucking a little bit too much gas because of the resistance of the oil in the air cleaner, so you might have to reach your car rare on fuel side.

That makes sense, ok I’ll try running a bit more lean on the fuel side. Thanks 👍

if the baler isnt running very good and not tieing give it more throttle our german made one needs almost as much as you can give it or it wounttie correctly
@SteddieProjects

Ok good to know. It’s hard to find the sweet spot on the old 8n when baling. Thanks for the tip I’ll try that.

I’m curious how large is the field in acres? Going from 115 to 15 bales is a big difference.
@SteddieProjects
@SteddieProjects 5 месяцев назад
It’s roughly 2-1/2 acres give or take.

I have a question I have a 1954 ford naa600 will this equipment work and if so what is the name of them all
@SteddieProjects
@SteddieProjects Месяц назад
Yeah the naa has quite a bit more horsepower, I have a mcCormick international Harvester 14 rake and a new Holland super hayliner 69. And I just added a Grimm Tedder to the hay lineup. And I use a Ford 501 sicklebar mower to cut the hay down.

A ton of trees? 2000 lb of trees? A ton is a specific amount of weight! Not a generalization that has no meaning!

Bailor is to much for an 8n I know I drove one for 50 years never bailed just raked with it!!! Their motor not strong enough!!!
@SteddieProjects
@SteddieProjects Год назад
Yeah it’s definitely short on the power end when it comes to bailing. A live PTO would be nice to.😆 thankfully once you get that big fly wheel spinning, it seems to do OK. I have an Oliver Rowcrop 88 that I would like to use for bailing but, it needs a little work right now. 🤷‍♂️
@JohnHBatte

No they are enough for heavy baler, just short a live clutch. Yeah they are pushed but they will run them I’ve seen them bale pulling a wagon behind on smoother land. I’ve ran 2Ns since I was 5, done every job but bale and that was because had better tractors and the 2Ns are best rake tractors ever not because I couldn’t. All told 38 years and we farmed 750 acres doing a big chunk of it with the 2Ns and Ferguson TO30. Later I got a Ford 3600 and kinda parked the 2Ns mostly. Would rather use them though when can.

In my limited knowledge, I was informed that a for N tractor will bale just fine with a twine baler but has trouble with wire balers. I have a 1952 8N. I bought a John Deere 14T for it but sadly had to move my farm dreams back to the burbs and hocked the baler. Kept the 8N tho 😁. Farm life will live again!
