The output of those coils is actually referenced to the green terminal. Your gonna blow up your MOSFET arcing it to ground like that. You're supposed to use the green terminal as your hv return wire not ground of the circuit! Also I would recommend sending a dedicated ground wire to the FET and then take a dedicated wire from the ground of the oscillator board to the source of your FET. That way you have dedicated wires for your signal and then a dedicated wire for the power ground. I highly do not recommend running MOSFETs in theis way. You can fry them easily. Try those two and your output will be better.
