Hi!
In this video, I’ll be showing you how to make all natural incense cones at home with ingredients from the outdoors and the kitchen! Chances are you can make this right now. No Makko powder, tree gum, resin, or saltpeter is required! I know pretty much all of us don’t have that on hand- so I created incense cones that YOU can make with simple ingredients.
Also, I’m making some wooden coasters. You may have noticed them in past videos, and they have proved to be indispensable tools for me. They make great gifts too!

Really love the idea of making these. Can you use cornstarch as a binder?

Lovely tutorial! I wonder if you wouldn’t mind answering a question. I too put too much binder, in my case makko powder, and created come incense that doesn’t burn. Can I regrind the cones and add more herbs, building new cones from the same material?

Hi there! That strategy in theory would work if you change the proportions of the mixture to accommodate for too much binding powder…but you can’t regrind the cones. Once they are dry they won’t go back to the paste that you started with. I know it seems like a waste, but if your cones are fragrant enough try grinding them into a powder and put them in sachets to use as air freshener. That’s what I did with the first batch. Hope this helps!

It does make sense and it’s a lively suggestion as well! I did already try grinding and adding more herb to change the proportion and it didn’t work, so that explains it! :) sachets it will be!

Do you mind sharing the approximate ratio of binder to herbs you used for the second batch?

I believe it was 2:1 ratio of herbs to binder. Experiment with it, use enough binder to keep the cones together but not so much that it prevents them from burning. Every ingredient has nuances, so you might have to tweak the recipe for different kinds of herbs
