I’ve been worrying about sourcing or building crates for my home haunt, as crates are either expensive to buy if you’re not in a trade, or time consuming to build. This is absolutely brilliant man, thank you so much. Your videos inspire me to be more innovative and resourceful in my builds. Awesome.
We hold a haunted house in our 30x40 shop every year. Last year thanks to your videos I accidentally made it to scary for my kids friends to go threw. Thanks for all your help.
You guys ever watch Bob Ross and think "No! You ruined it." Then five seconds later you're like "Oh shit, no that looks way better!" Thats how I felt watching this video.
This is such a great example of how things read in bright harsh light, very different from how they read in scene lighting. My fine artist brain used to spend so much time in the details that no one ever saw in the light and distance displayed, and it took me a while to break myself of it, and get some physical distance for perspective. Prop painting goes much quicker now!
One way to still use the cardboard boxes and not have the printing on the outside is to break the boxes down, then separate the seam where the box is glued together. You can then re-assemble the box inside out, the printing will be on the inside!
Great work on turning junk into awesomeness. And fast. I love to see that transformation happen. Thanks for mentioning fire safety with the flame retardent which is something everyone needs to do.
Lovely painting tips and all so applicable to the theatre props/stage dressing work I sometimes do. Thanks Allan. Also love that orange long sleeve shirt.
Very impressed (as usual). Love the simple technique of positive and negative spaces. I've got to try this out soon... It is just too cool! Thanks for all your great videos...
Oooohhhhh man!!!! I got Tingles and jingles goosin' up bumps down the ol spine!! ! Thank you mucho, Horror Honcho!! You really made my millennia!! Now in gotta go listen To Three Dog Night's Liar again!! Keep puttin' Saturday night smiles on Monday morning mugs, saddle.pard, much love!!👍👍 Best channel on the tube, yall👍👍👍🌟🌟🌟
If shaking the can doesn't free the marble, just chuck the paint can at the wall. Fixes it right up. Seriously though, don't do that. Man, I'm impressed with how you can take an idea and make it physical with everyday, common materials. We made some of your harbor freight yoga mat trees. The only change we made was adding a stiffening wire in the arms due to the foam sagging in the sun.
whats funny was my white test arms did not sag at all for months- but once they were painted dark they got more heat from the sun. Im glad you made it work!
Our plan for this year's yard haunt is to focus less on the big props and more on the background/set dressing. A few of these crates will look awesome with our pirate skeleton theme! So simple and yet so effective.
@@StiltbeastStudios I made five of these to go in our haunt display, and they look amazing! Because ours will be seen in broad daylight as well as under haunt lighting, I covered the lettering on the boxes using some spray adhesive & a roll of brown paper I had on hand. We switched up our theme from pirates to old west, and they fit right in. My only problem was I'm a little heavy handed when it comes to spray paint & my straight edge became so drippy that I had to stop using it. I used painter's tape instead, and while it took a little more time it gave the same nice, sharp lines as the straight edge. Thanks again for the awesome tutorial!
Hmmmmm that's quick and easy I'm making some in my spider room and i'm going to use real wood but in the back of the room making the cardboard ones will speed things up .... thanks for sharing HFL!!
I have a question about when making the outer frame effect, is there a particular reason you go all the way across top to bottom versus stopping where the boards might meet to make a frame? I can One direction you seem to stop so the shadowing is just in the middle but on the other side's your going all the way across.
Sooooo. I’m in the process of making those cool Harry Potter dementors. There was a picture of how to cut every one of the four pieces of the black weed barrier fabric except the one that went around the neck before the hood is attached. Any suggestions and have you ever thought about doing a longer version for the slow witted fans like me? Thanks
Me too, just too much going on all over the haunt to bring the lights down, its Just dimmer, if you watch me i squint a lot in order to see things through my lashes which approximates the dimness- not 100% but it helps.
You are just soooo awesome and creatively gifted! Love your vids. I actually made the gigantic deer head last year for my nephew's bday but they thought it too weird so I kept it for myself lol. I think it's cool. Hey, what brand of hot glue do you use? And what glue gun are you using, as well? Glad you are back!
@@StiltbeastStudios Thank you! I have a couple pics I can send of the work in progress but not the finished for some reason and he's resting up in the attic til haunting season lol. 😁 How do I send them to you? Thru yer email?
