Putting together a latex outfit. All told, subtracting for breaks, this took about 3 and a half hours.
People frequently ask why latex is so expensive. I did this for years and it took me 3 and a half hours to make a bodysuit which on inspection looks fairly simple. The sheeting is up to around $30/yd, if not a little more depending on where it's sourced. Also, I have a full "factory" here, meaning I own all the tools necessary to do this, which are many and not exactly cheap.
Latex designers in the US are struggling to remain competitive with china, where material, and of course labor, are negligible. Meanwhile, we have rent and mortgages to pay. Not trying to be bitchy, just using these little vids as a demonstration of what goes in to hand-making some of the simplest things.
As far as I know, there is still no machine or automatic process that can do latex curved seaming.
