In the country of Armenia, beneath Mount Ararat, a unique bread is being made: Lavash.
Lavash has been inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The preparation, meaning, and appearance of Lavash are considered to be an expression of culture in Armenia.
Lavash has been made in Armenia for thousands of years.
The oven used to bake Lavash is called a tonir.
An ancient tonir was discovered in Armenia dating back 2,600 years.
Lavash is a tradition that must be preserved for future generations.

This sounds like an interesting expression, Shahab. Google is translating it as "ghosts of your stomach." Is that accurate?

Great photos and video ~ along with terrific writing, and all made better with the idea of someday being able to try some fresh lavash at some point in my life. I too am a lover of great bread and if it is fresh from the oven, there is nothing better. One of the great joys I have in central Europe is to taste the great breads there that I just cannot find back in the States. Wishing you and Tricia a great finish to the summer.
