Making Leather Dye with Kool Aid?!
When I was just starting to work with leather, I had a super low budget for materials. I would make leather dyes with Kool-Aid because it was inexpensive. Dying leather with sugar free Kool-Aid packets is simple - just mix 4-5 packets (usually about 3/$1) into 2 cups of hot water, then soak a chunk of natural veg tan for 20 minutes or until darker than desired color. The leather will lighten a bit as it dries, but the color will stay and you'll have yourself a nice Kool-Aid dyed leather wallet in the end!

another great vid ,I really like how you are not afraid to go in real close almost touching the item to show every little detail there are a lot that try to hide small imperfections with the camera far away.

@Stevie Cormier I would suggest to get blue leather dye. You can order one from amazon for 10 bucks. Clean the leather properly with alcohol beforehand, dye it, and than oil it up at least twice. The alcohol makes it really dry, so you need to oil and wax it really well. Good luck :)

It sticks pretty well by itself, only boiling water can wash it off. But if you wanna make sure you can waterproof it
@Handles-R-Lame
@Handles-R-Lame Год назад
@@samydc310 any sort of leather finish will work, it doesn't have to be a waterproofing type. Although wax based and acrylic paste does stand up to be the strongest of them all usually. But nonwaterproof finishes like a leather balm, mink or neatsfoot oil, simple shoe polish heck even some saddle soap. Just buff any of these and they'll be a great finish to any dyed leather products.

What is the name of the tool at 8:45? Also, what is that wax youre using at 9:15?
@MountainFisher
@MountainFisher 6 лет назад
csm; The tool is a common edge beveler and the wax is beeswax which is commonly used to burnish edges. Judging by the thickness of the leather I would venture a guess the edge beveler is a size 4. I use a size four on thinner leather like she's using for this wallet and for heavy projects like a belt or knife sheath I use 8-9 ounce leather and a number 2 edge beveler. An ounce is 1/64 of an inch, so 8 oz is 1/8th thick.
