First time making kvass. Includes tasting at one, and three days with abv levels.

I’ve been interested in making wine which takes a while, never heard of Kvass but I’m going to make some as soon as I get some bottles, thanks for the video. Very detailed and easy to understand.

there are many types and names of russian Kvas ... for example - Cranberry - kvas ... also old russian word "kvas" meaning - " souring" so this drink must be have degree - this information for successful working... i want to ask you about your video by oak chips for strong drink ... i don't understand what kind of substance (powder in small bag ) you showed ?..

could you try a traditional kvass next time 1 loaf of dark bread toasted in the oven the in a pot of boiling water 3L when it cools down add 500g sugar and 7g bakers yeast and a handful of raisins let it ferment for 3 days in a large pot covered with a lid then you can pour it into bottles let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours and then you can drink

Having a Russian girlfriend who has strong opinions on what Kvass I'm curious about where you got the inspiration to add lemon and carbonate, neither of those two are normally done. Having tried "real" Kvass I'll admit the lemon juice sounds like it would improve the taste :)

I've looked at recipes that make it with several different fruits, beets mostly. There were a few lemon recipes, so I look at what's common in the recipes and then modify and simplify it for the beginner level of this channel. If I were to do this again, I would substitute wine yeast for the bread yeast. Even still, it wasn't too bad at all.

@@DIYFermentation countless names and types of russian kvas... would be better to know that old russian word "Kvas" meaning - "Souring" so this drink must be enough strength... and one more question ... what kind of substance you showed in video about using oak chips for strong drink ?.. ( "substance" in a small sachet - i don't understand ...)

Is it Sourdough pumpernickel bread that you are using? If it is, the sourdough yeast will give it a unique flavour.

Maybe add raisins, but the sourdough might cost more money so maybe not.

@@mothershelper1981 I use them raw, peeled and grated with a bag weight to keep them under the surface for the initial few days of fermenting, then strain to remove the solids for secondary.

Actually , when everything has been properly sanitized there's very little to no risk involved. In this drink that only a few days old there's nothing to worry about. But, I've never made a drink with bread before, so what's that gonna taste like???
