Even to me, who barely knows what a camera looks like, that footage hurt :| If I ever were to do studio work on my own dime, I would 100% have a life line attached to the camera, suspended from the ceiling, so it would be physically impossible for it to even get to the floor without unhooking it first.
Oh fucking hell Luke. Sorry about the camera and the equipment. That being said. Man, you transformed that MDF building kit to look WAY better! I can't wait to see the final paintjob man! Well done! 👍
That Cardboard "Plaster" is a great idea. Bathrooms in the 1940s? My family had an outhouse and a tin bath; but maybe Normandy is a bit posher than the UK Midlands.
Nice build, sorry about the gear. I know how important each aspect is especially that articulating screen. I wonder if you dipped each brick in some glue/baking soda (tinted as well) mixture and placed them with the tweezers if it would nail that mortar look or not?....
The dungeon boss stands in front of you and growls: "FDM layer lines or needing to add texture and detail to MDF kits. Which is worse?" How do you respond?
I cannot imagine the pain of seeing your expensive kit getting banged up like that. Sorry to hear it pal. The build on this is great, Luke. I am very happy to see the direction you’re taking these in. You know my passion is for the details and seeing bricks, chimney stacks, plaster, wallpaper -Christ! alcotraves, coping. You’re rocking it, dude. I am hungry for more.
Sorry bout the camera, that must have been a sad day :( Also I love your philosophy on painting, Haha! "I don't like painting terrain" - Luke "We're gonna paint this all, and we're gonna weather all this" - Also Luke
The camera - that made me wince. Sorry to hear it. Otherwise that is a brilliant build and shows how much potential there is in mdf terrain. They are fine as-is but tarted up they are next level. Cant wait to see the rest of it. Cheers!
Watched this yesterday and forgot to comment. Yes absolutely superb video, topic and content. More please. Sorry to hear about flying camera. Budget fecked. Still if govt can run a deficit spending plan....
Sent you a couple of squids mate. Hopefully it helps towards making these great videos. My advice, screw it to the floor 😂 Also, look at Abandoned Miniatures use of glass slides from microscopes for the glass. Cheap and a great look.
Awesome video! Some great ideas for my own WW2 town. Sorry to hear about your camera! I’ll pop to your shop and make some purchases to support the cause.
you're vids are great as always. History tip you aren't going to find many "Bathrooms" in WW2 French villages. jugs of water and bowls in the main with a stand-in bowl for the "bath experience". It's a bit like Britain and its wash stand and tin bath. The whole hygiene thing didn't really kick of until the 50s anyway
What a lovely little house. All those details really brings everything together. And that everything looks like its a long way away from MDF. Very inspiring. Definitely going to nic the bricks thing. And sorry about the gear. Had my heart in my throat there.
@@GeekGamingScenics Aye but I can see where it's going and it will be so much better than original- unless you balls it up and make another failure video about it, lol.
Great build! The bricks really set off the scale as well…..somehing I have never tried! I cringed when you said you knocked the camera setup over! Love these smaller detail build videos, keep em coming!
It's good to see you using that brick paper, I stumbled across it a year or so ago and used it to breath a bit of life into my old scratch built buildings. I've used it for loads of other stuff since, a brilliant find. Fantastic end result of the model and bad news about the camera.
Any idea where I can get my hands on some? I've been looking for the right scale bricks/stone embossed paper for ages, but I can't find any. Any tips more than welcome!
Gorgeous end result man. Harsh luck with the camera though, making me think through how my stuff is insured in more detail! Nice music choice too btw :)
Great guide. I've often thought about the blank interiors on buildings. Will definitely use a lot of these tips for the next bit of scenery I work on. The end result looked great. Good luck with the gear replacement.
So sorry to hear about your damaged kit, have sent a small donation, sorry it can’t be more but I’m out of work, so moneys very tight. Hope you get lots of support. Thanks for all your videos. Particularly like these houses your doing as I’m interested in Bolt Action scenery and when I do have any cash I often order from you to work on my own 28mm scatter terrain. All the best mate, hope you get your stuff replaced real soon👍🏻
Hi Luke Luv your channel, luv your videos. But there is so so so much information, I must confess it's a bit overwhelming to a newcomer like me. I'm the wrong side of 40👴 so arriving a bit late to the party. I know you're as busy as hell, but would you consider a "my first table" kind of series. Something that would be 3x3 or 4x4 nothing too big or elaborate that would week by week build up to a finished, somewhat generic grass board that we could follow along with and build with you. I'm currently trying to put together something for Flames of War and everything I've found so far on other channels seems to revolve around a grass matt with some proper naff looking scatter terrain. I'm currently trying to use 43cm square pin boards that I picked up from the local artshop that I can stow away to keep the wife happy. Would love to hear your thoughts. Luv luv luv Mike
“It was very… sort of affordable- it was about £25…” You’ve changed man, you’ve changed. Gutted for you hearing about your camera and lens - that’s a really sore one, hope things turn out to be repairable.
Hello Luke, I was wondering about sealant on MDF terrain. I noticed you don’t use it? Or did I miss something. Is it really needed or can you just prime and paint it? TTcombat sell a sealant. Just wondered if it was even needed?
Maybe that's just me, but I think a GoFundMe would work better than just a Paypal Donation link. The former is a lot more transparent the latter just seems like "I take however much money I can get."- Enjoy your videos in any case.
Love your work and help, with ref the thicken the walls of mdf kits, check out Laser Creation World although 1/35 diorama builder in a video 2 weeks ago ( ww2 panther defensive battle ) he used thin cuts of Styrofoam to thicken the walls of a church mdf building. Keep up the good work.
Bit of a hindsight but Luke ever considered a Rubber room, so that when and if your accident occurs again, instead of "Oops I did it Again!!" then you can watch your instruments Bounce and be retrieved quite happily? And by rubber I mean rubber sheeting which gives both protection and insulation to the floor your working on. Just a thought to brighten your day!!
Sad to hear about the cam, would support if i could as i really enjoy the content you put out but im skint, putting in a like and this comment for the algorithm gods. The whole build looks amazing! You could print bricks like that on sprues with only a single support per brick, clean+cure, prime and paint/wash them still on the sprue, removal would only cause an unpainted dot on one side, leaving the rest already fully painted, probably enough to get away with for most builds where the bricks are part of something.
I work mostly in 1:35 scale and scratch build my buildings. My brick walls are cast in Herculite plaster which is coloured york buff or terricota with pigment. It is possible to colour individual bricks in the mould, but thats too time consuming for me. The mortar is poundshop plaster filler heavily watered down. That can also be coloured with a tiny amount of black pigment to get a grey mortar. All the wooden structures are made from balsa though I use bought MDF window frames so in effect my stone/ brick work is real stone and wood in the building is real wood. I use microscope slide cover glass as window panes. They are easy to break in the frame with a small tap from a nail to make cracked or broken windows. The plaster is thin sheets cast again from Herculite in moulds that represent 8x4 feet plaster board. the pound shop filler is used to fill any gaps. these sheets are too easy to break. The wallpaper is made exactly as you did and if you try this, paper the wall before breaking the plaster. floorboard are again balsa as are rafters, skirting, Simon Kemp has great videos on using the same moulds I do. If your not familuar with his channel . I will post a link here :- ru-vid.com/show-UCHemRX-aOiXTqu3ktrqsqVg
I'm always puzzled by people who constantly change blades, I keep a sharpening stone on my workbench, a few rubs in each direction every few cuts restores the edge. I only replace blades when they break but always have a sharp edge. Apologies if this appears as if I'm being a smart arse! Sorry to hear about your damaged gear.
If it Wass just some soldering needed on the camera lens I would offer my services, but yeh other than that I'm no use to you I'm afraid. On the plus side the buildings looking great. It's good to get more regular hobby videos from you again, your the main reason that I started watching RU-vid videos so much 😂
Why not try brick effect plasticard? Must be cheaper than that paper! Just a spray of red/brown paint, when dry dust it with grout and wipe off with damp cloth, hardly takes any time. You could also paint it white then drybrush with brick colour for a weathered whitewashed wall.
When Luke's gaming tables look better than most folks' train layouts 0.o Saw the camera pic on the Terrain facebook page. That one hurt, I'm sorry mate
Not sure how i missed this video, terrain stuff like this are right up my street... I hope you managed to recoup the losses you made on the camera already, but if not i thought i would do my part and finally go and get the bits from the store ive been meaning to pick up for a while... i dont feel that bad about your camera breaking... its all your fault i started playing kings of war because of you, watching your videos is expensive!
Try using microscope glass.. you can get in various thickness, 1mm and etc. they look great and can use in a lot of things without cutting. You can use a cutoff diamond wheel or score and snap with glass cutter.
This is fantastic! I’ve got a dozen or so of the exact same buildings and this is going to be an amazing resource for finishing them. Sorry to hear about the gear, hopefully it can be repaired without being too costly.
Ooof, feels on this end like your having a bit of a string of mishaps with your work lately. If that camera is trash you should see if you can’t disassemble it and make some sort of sci fi/post apocalyptic terrain out of it. Maybe get one last video out of it.
Gave you 50 quid to help with the camera - did not expect a video callout but a "thank you" on email or PayPal would have been nice......................................................
a good source off wall paper in the game 'The Sims' they is lots of downloadable stuff for the game inc wall paper. What you need is the thumb nail image that go's with the file. They are easy to scale as they are in a format that is one roll of wall paper wide. you can also get floor tiles and carpets as well.
I tend to find with MDF kits that can of petrol and a lighter works wonders. Or failing that put it in the wood chipper that your dad uses when he's cut the hedge.
