Oh my word this is yet another example of just how inspirational a short 15 minutes or so video can be. Amazing job of helping me to stay motivated and excited about what's possible with a little bit of thought, dedication to master some tools and then commitment to put those skills and that knowledge into making something really cool. I'm new to your channel but already I'm a massive fan and this is one of my top 3 favourite channels to learn from. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing projects with those of us with much less knowledge and more to learn. Please keep making your incredible videos. ps. I also like some other channels but I don't care whether somebody went to a private school or comes from the streets, for me it's about what they do in this space and whether the content is high quality. I hear what others have commented and agree that there are also other high calibre content creators and yes I also enjoy those other channels but I think this channel has something very unique and really quite special (and no I'm not a sponsor, I just love tech, I love software, being a developer, a graphic artist, 3D modelling and also an animator I get a buzz from watching somebody else utilise a really good mix of skills to produce something really cool). Love this video. I'm a third year Mechanical Engineering major and the prototyping process was one of the hardest lessons I had to learn. I would get so drawn into trying to plan the perfect first design that I would never actually build it, and it led to so much unnecessary stress and effort. Turns out, just making a very bare bones proof of concept works great. Don't give it too much thought, just make sure it works. Once that's done, do the rest by feel. The method you landed on in the end was exactly correct. Mess around with it for a few minutes/hours and see what feels good and what feels bad. Work from there. Keep up the great work!

When trying to remove old solder it can be good to apply some fresh solder &/or flux(i use flux core solder). it will help melt the old solder and clean up much nicer. And if you are really worried you might burn or damage the pcb you can lower the temp pretty far when trying to desolder. I start around 280c. The mouse seems great. The next thing to experiment with is different resins for your print, specifically there are “tough resins“ that will dramatically strengthen the print and make it more flexible and less likely to break. The only step forward I can think of, besides continuing to refine ultra-lightweight mice, is to have a touchpad the size of a mousepad of insanely high fidelity and good multi-finger tracking. Though it'd come with a learning curve, as really the only way to make it function as point and click simultaneously is to use multi-finger, say middle for drag and index for click. The only issue would be how to discern individual fingers, and I think that's where palm rejection would be useful, as you can build a kinematic model between the portion of the palm being rejected and your fingertips. I think this could be a viable solution at some point, it just needs development and refinement, plus some cool things could come out if it; such as for casual use, your palm could be the pointer function, which could open up per-fingertip uses, such as middle finger being right click and scroll (hold and drag), and ring, pinky, and thumb could have macros attached to them, the kinematic model could also introduce per-finger zoning such as the retention of the thumb having two auxiliary buttons, different amounts of finger extension and flexion (the amount of curl to your finger between the three joints) could have different functions within a linear sense, though abduction and adduction would be harder to track due to overlap outside of what the thumb and pinky can extend to. It's also not an impossible idea, you just need a touch device of the correct size (the largest issue) and fidelity (potentially another large issue), along with good on-board software (an issue that's easy to work around) with a decent response rate (potentially another large issue, touchpad ICs are commonly per-device chips, so there's not exactly a market for these, entirely dissimilar to the situations with microcontrollers that communicate with the host); the only further issue I can think of is skin sticking to various surfaces, though there's probably a very simple way around this with various materials. I'm surprised some niche company hasn't tried developing this, I know desktop trackpads have had very niche markets in the past but this goes beyond just scaling up a laptop trackpad, and the closest thing I can think of currently is that strange PC gamepad that has an overly large trackpad for the thumb, the IFYOO GTP01/DarkWalker ShotPad, though its featureset isn't amazing and overall design in physical aspects, hardware, and software is lackluster at best.

very impressive, but honestly, at this point, why not just strap a wireless mouse to your arm, take out the optical sensor and triggers, solder some longer wires to them, attach the sensor to your ring finger, and put the triggers upside down on your index and middle fingers? that'd essentially be a weightless wireless mouse then, no? and you could maybe print a little chunk of plastic similar in shape to the frame of the mouse in the video if you want to "hold" something
