have been doing all different genres of music my whole life, just got into synthwave and man.... This video is such a no bullshit straight to the point, and legit explanation of the ideas and vibe that go behind it. You were able to explain and show it in 13 mins or less... and also your sense of melody and the mix sounds great... Def got a sub!
Been trying to expand my knowledge of this sort of music for my own uses, and your channel in just two videos has helped SO much. Easy to follow and just phenomenal musicianship. Keep at it!
Hello. For the umpteenth time, I sit down to write this or that beat in this or that genre, and on this day you have a video coming out on the topic of this style. It blows my mind)
I love how you include little tips about ableton too. Like how copying an audio effect also copies the automation. I've been using ableton for awhile and had no idea. These videos are amazing, thank you!
Welcome back K. I love your choice of videos. Faded Memory is my favorite Synthwave track. Your backing track has stage presence for sure. Thank you for the tutorials
Omg, I've only discovered your channel today, and I'm surprised by your good taste and a simplicity of it. I definitely like your style and will stay with you, because I lack those clean and simple view on the music. I'm always overcomplicating the process of producing, and because of it I loose a lot of fun. Watching how you are making music - it's like a breath of an fresh air for me!
That’s awesome! Thanks so much for sharing that. I definitely try to keep it simple and agree that it can make it a little more fun when I’m not overcomplicating things!
Greetings from Ireland 👍 I was today years old when I learned about the dropping of the wavs into Wavetable. Dear Lord that bass sounds badass. I try to make techno myself but I'm sure I'll pick up some great tips.
Thanks so much! I have one other Synthwave video here and planning more in the future 😁 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y216_8HtXrQ.html
@@khartbeats no dude thank YOU. I made my first Synthwave track today because of this tutorial and I have been grinning from ear to ear all afternoon, as your tuition helped me to understand things that seemed so alien and out of reach for me. I am massively, massively grateful 🙏🏽
I'm a total noob, but I've learned a lot of new things, especially EQ and Auto Filter will be extremely helpful! Also thanks for calling out the key combos! :D
Thanks so much! I spent a lot of time watching synthesis tutorials and then just messing around on my own. Just creating random sounds is great for learning.
This is awesome!! Particularly liked what you did with the arp! Just arpeggiating basic triads can get a bit repetitive after a while! I thought what you did sounded a lot more interesting!
Can you please make a video on the intro of this video... It is so calm, chillout and beautiful.. And so amazing to hear you are feeling better after what ever you were going through.
Thank you 😊 I don’t think I have the project file for that one anymore…a lot of my files got deleted by accident a while ago. I can see about recreating something similar in a future video.
Welcome back hope you are feeling better by now. Doesn’t matter that it’s not a proper genre.. this is how genres begin. Happy Xmas eve. Also is pigments worth the 200$ price tag?
Hey, thanks! I'm doing better and happy Xmas eve to you, too. I'd say Pigments is worth it if you enjoy sound design...it's insanely powerful and you can mix multiple wavetables with samples and a granulator engine. If you mainly just use the presets, I'd say probably not.
Awesome tutorial! - Just one question. What instrument/patch are you using for the synth chords @3:27? - You mention what the other elements are, but I don't think you said what this synth is. Thank you for your content. Nice and easy to follow along with, and learn!
Hey, thanks so much! I’m pretty sure it’s the Home Alone keys preset from the pack I mentioned. It’s very similar to an electric piano. Glad the video was useful!
I started close to the same…I bought a midi keyboard that came with Live Lite. Just take the time to learn the interface and when/if you feel limited by it, consider upgrading to Standard or Suite. It has everything you need to make most of the music you want to make 🙂
@@khartbeats I've been using it 6 months. But now I know im ready to switch to standard because I'm very limited in creativity. I barely know what the Wavetable is, let alone know how to access it or create one.
@@joshpinhoI think Wavetable is only in Suite. I’d suggest maybe downloading a synth plugin like Serum (paid) or Vital (free) if you don’t have Wavetable. They can do much of the same thing, just a different interface.
Can anyone with Ableton download & use those Oblivion Sound Lab presets/banks? Where do you get them, and are they easy to install/load in Ableton? Great video!
No, unfortunately it costs money. I got it on sale so it wasn’t too much, but it’s a great sound bank for Arturia’s analog lab. If you google Oblivion Sound Lab you’ll find them. Thanks so much for checking out the video!
Thanks, this is really useful! What preset do you use for the chords? I liked the one you used, but I could not find it when I browsed through Analog Lab V (I found some electric pianos that came close, though...)
Thanks! They’re all from the synthwave preset pack I mentioned. I think the one I used for the chords is called Home Alone keys. An electric piano would probably sound similar with a little bit of tweaking.
Hey, thanks so much! I use Ableton Live. Here’s a link to their website that lists pc requirements and such help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001663530-Live-Minimum-System-Requirements
For this one I just loaded some one shot samples into a drum rack for the kick and snare and just played them in using the corresponding note on my midi keyboard. You can also pencil the midi in using the piano roll…there is a little picture of some headphones near the top left of the piano roll you can press so you can hear the sample when you’re placing it.
@@khartbeats thanks for the fast reply. do you have any videos that explain the thought process behind the EQ adjustments you're making? I can see what you are doing, interested to learn my about the why.
@@andrewbardusk4861 sure thing! I'm planning on doing a mixing video, but most times I'm using EQ to clean up low frequencies that will interfere with bass. And in this one I also ducked one frequency that was very resonant in the synth chords.
I would like to commend you on your production sound quality, it's second to none. But you need to slow down, you far rush the steps in so many ways beyond this project. I guess this topic and project is far way past your interest. But it's my observation. You could maybe slow the pace of explaining that the steps to import the samples. They are not installed by default. And the way in which the samples are dragged onto the Arrangement View and not the Session View. Although that is plain to see in the video you have provided, but not to a novice. These are just a few issues i have with this tutorial. Your rushed Controlled keyboard steps are hard to follow rushed., i cant understand them or hear you. Ctrl + Shift What?.. I know you are giving a free tutorial, but some are paying. Have you thought about text on screen giving a flow of your audio and direction.. At least if your not being followed audio wise they could read it.. Blind people that cant hear, they can follow you. lol a joke for you..
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve found for this platform (RU-vid), videos between 12-15 minutes do best. I do my best to fit making an entire song into this very small timeframe, which is not always easy and a lot of the smaller details do get cut sometimes. Other than a very few generous souls who have given me a super thanks, I do these tutorials for free and can’t afford to devote all of my time to them, unfortunately.
@khartbeats fair point. But to your credit, you have some very good information in your videos. I would like to see if you could do some in the FM Attack style. I have rewritten the track My Life, took some doing. Can't sing, so play lead synth.
