You are one of a very few that suggests the hole in the piece to be anchored is a "pilot hole" and the hole into the piece to be anchored is the "anchor hole"....pilot hole is diameter of the threads in the screw and the anchor hole is the diameter of the shank of the threaded screw to be used.....thank you

Beautiful, the spacer you talked about,, we use to call them wobble washer, they were washers that were wedge shaped to create the saw blade to near touch at one side and leave a gap at the other side. You would pick what washers you needed to make the dado you wanted. Old school stuff that I think was banned in the uk in the 80s but they still use it in the states. I think they call in “ Staking”. Nice work 👍 Thanks for sharing 👍😄📐🔨

I am a finish carpenter/ contractor here in the states (that is what we call here what you do). Some of us focus on specific things and are license is called a “Millworkers “ license. I am focused on custom cabinetry; more so add on cabinetry instread as a full kitchens? Bottom line more profitable and less employees! I also do house trim inside & out ; hang doors and build them! Could you talk about what seems to be your better profit line! And how you built up your shop ? Obviously you do not use a table saw ? I do not use a band saw and do almost everything on my 52” med priced Grizzly Saw (3hp triple belt 800 lb ) which I just enjoy! Also how much “out of shop work” percentage wise do you do as opposed to in shop? Really enjoy your channel and learn tons!
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 2 года назад
Best profit line would probably be to sell up and become an electrician haha, I think kitchen if you can sell them, but generally to charge the right money you need showroom and the service side of things rather than just being able to produce and supply the goods. I have a small table saw, and do use it fairly regularly, but for the most part i manage with the bandsaw and panel saw. Id make good use of a decent table saw but i dont have the room for everything.
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 2 года назад
depends on the job, it can be 100% site 50 50 or all workshop tbh! I dont mind too much but its obviously not worthwhile to be heating and paying for a workshop if you not using it..
@zephyr1408
@zephyr1408 2 года назад
@@BradshawJoinery absolutely I understand! I hv to somewhat disagree about the showroom and others. Spencer Lewis does finish carpentry by himself like you? Like me? 250 plus G ‘s a yr! It’s really the right hook up with a General builder! If you sub out to a guy who build custom top end homes your good! You hv the skills no doubt and just need to connect to a custom builder! Look at his channel “inside carpentry” touch basis with him and see his path? Of course your path is not mine, mine is not yours ect.,. I would love seeing you grow because then I get more videos with massive informative content mate! Now then again? I could be all wet! I am staying away from employees, and I turned my Garage into a shop brought 220 amp into it big saws and acquired one veh now I am working on a van? To me it’s about the day to day action? Money helps ? Truthfully I am ok w/o all the action? Retired from one field already? But I love the life the Good Lord gave me so I am living it all the way!

You amaze ( and shame!) me more every video mate 🙏 Tape is great! My million dollar idea is but, if the put a tiny hole right in the center of the 100 mm line, and supply one of those little short pin things with the plastic end they use on wall boards to pin paper I think. Know what I’m saying? Then you could mark out a whatever it is without relying on ‘hand pressure’ to stop the tape moving. Maybe I just want a really easy life 😂 Take care mate
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 2 года назад
Haha thanks buddy, I hear what your saying with that, or have a bit of blank tape at the end then start from zero so you never make the 100mm mistake ever again lol

Love the halving joints. Wish I could afford a big enough saw to add more than 1 blade. Did have a thought though. Could you domino joint out through one piece and using a longer domino join 2 bits either side. Might give it a go but if you do try it post a quick vid please. Fab work BTW. Been watching your channel for a while now. Brilliant.
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery 2 года назад
Cheers Ian, Yeah it certainlt helps make it even, You can do the same with a small spacer block against your stop. SHould keep them all the same width., Domino would break out the timber on the rear and its also not a holding joint until its glued. the key with halving joint it is keeps all the little bits straight. Thanks By the way :)
@-PORK-CHOP-
@-PORK-CHOP- Год назад
Beautiful work, do you think it would be easier to dowel the internal joins that were plugged, so you don't see any fixing points ? great to see someone using a dovetail jig, no point wasting time cutting them by hand to get an inferior finish, too many youtubers put down using jigs, in the real world they would spend ten times the amount of time than you do to get no better finish
@BradshawJoinery
@BradshawJoinery Год назад
Dovetailing all them drawers by hand would add another 2k to the invoice and probably not be as good. I love tradition and would do it if specified, but personally most will not know the difference or wish to pay extra for something they cannot see. ( Many clients do though)

How many hours did you accumulate creating these superb inserts? The quality of your bespoke craftsmanship is timeless. I hope your customer appreciates the detail of what you’ve achieved here. I’m a big fan of retaining the natural features of the timber too, rather than cutting clear of the knots. Great work Ollie 👍🏻 Which Laquer are you using, and do you get much soak and absorption on the first coat? Cheers 😉

Most finishes are food safe when they have dried.

As already mentioned by Mark, once fully cured (allow 30 days before use) most finished do not give any harmful effects. Products used to contain lead and other nasty chemicals that didn't fully cure and leeched into enclosed spaces, hence there being suspicion of food safety with finishes.
