Take a look behind the scenes of the Halloween classic 'Hocus Pocus' Director: Kenny Ortega Cast: Bette Midler Sarah Jessica Parker Kathy Najimy Omri Katz Thora Birch Vinessa Shaw
It's kind of like the Christmas Movie, 'It's a Wonderful Life', it was a big flop at the time it first came out, and then became cemented in history, as a legacy, something that would be watched until the end of time, an absolute Classic. And in this case... a Halloween Classic :) FYI The actors who played the brother, sister, and girlfriend in this movie are still good friends till this day!
I think if "Jurassic Park" was released a year later, this movie could've possibly got an Oscar nom for the visual effects. Still hold up amazingly after almost 30 years.
Indeed, I watched the movie again today. I'm 40 years old, the same age as Thora Birch, so I was 11 years when it came out. The cgi for the cat still holds up
Just as Home Alone is a must see for Christmas 🎄 Hocus Pocus is a must see for Halloween 🎃. It can’t be a great Halloween 👻 without this movie. It’s a must see. Thanks so much for sharing 👍👍👍🎥🍿👻
Yes, I'm exactly the same Hocus Pocus on Halloween, and Home Alone 1 & 2 on Christmas. But _not_ Hocus Pocus 2, or Home Alone 3 - I didn't like those one.
Anyone here sept 2019?? I love the older movies! like Willy Wonka and things like this because it wasn't all computer animated they actually had to do something physically to get the right shot..it wasn't just a green screen they actually built things to make them fly that is absolutely amazing.love it
TODAY'S movie industry would probably rely on CGI effects to create the flying effect, but the makers of this movie actually BUILT stuff and WORKED HARD and made the effect physically!
Do you honestly believe that CGI means the computer does everything for you? lol CG artists basically do the exact same things that these guys did. They just use computers to build it all instead.
You have little to no understanding of CGI. You would still have to hoist the actor and fly them. You would just recreate the scene around them. Wire flying is still widely used as are puppets, molds, blue screen etc...
Anthony Weiss - although your comment was two years ago, the answer is no. The 90's, when that movie came out, was, and still is the last decade/era for great entertainment of TV shows. I don't even have cable.
I first watched this when u was maybe 6 or so, and Mary and Winifred sacred me so much. My parents sent me up to my bedroom, and I lay in my bed in my pitch black bedroom, and since it was pitch black I was even more scared because I thought Mary was gonna come eat me. I watched Hocus Pocus on Halloween again this year, I loved it so much. One of my favorite movies now! ❤
In the documentary Who Do You Think You Are, SJP found out she’s descended from a woman who was accused of being a witch during the Salem Witch Trials.
I loved this movie so much as a kid and on into adulthood. I've recently had a new found love of it since introducing it to my 4 year old daughter. We watched it for the first time together on October 1st and now October 11th we've watched it over a dozen times per her request;
A lot of work and hassle goes into movie making, which is why people say people in show business make too much money they really have no idea what they are talking about.
Right, I so agree. I think its going to be a horrible sequel, because it won't have Kenny Ortega director ing it and also none of the original witches. Which they said they would love to do a sequel, they said they been waiting for a long time to do one. Disney definitely can afford to make a good movie with them, they just want to make cheaper for tv, which is sad :(
I think Disney did this huge 'reunion' and anniversary bash this year to test the waters of a fan base. Unfortunately, I predict Disney will use pop tart teeny-boppers to 'star' in the remake of Hocus Pocus...ughh. As is prevalent in the soon-to-air television special on FREEFORM. The three original actresses are what made it classy.
Wait what about that puppet lady who was roasting the actors, she was pretty funny and creepy "you can stick pins into their bodies, they don't respond, they don't say a word, it's really nice." She seems charming
This is fascinating! Hocus Pocus was and is one of my all time favourite films. I had it on a a vhs tape my grandad recorded for me. On the same tape I had my brother's year 5 nativity and the film Goodnight Mr Tom, another of my favourites.
Not sure that's true, if you want someone flying you still need to suspend them in the air against a green screen. I will agree that they do use CGI where practical effects would look far more realistic though.
This just shows how talented some people are where they put in many hours of their hard work and dedication to create such a brilliant and iconic movie as Hocus Pocus:) Today’s world has lost so much quality due to current technology. Back then, as I was 7 years old when this movie came out, things were so exciting and full of life and wonder..I’m so grateful I was a kid when I was:) To all the people apart of this movie, thank you for making this masterpiece:) 😀✨👏🏼🎥🎭
I wish they kept all that equipment and made a sequel film in the mid-late 90s with the same trio of actresses 😞 I understand it may be hard to make a Hocus Pocus sequel in today's era since the actresses have aged a little, and since it may be hard to rebuild the flying sets, but they could've done it again in the 90s! I love Hocus Pocus nonetheless! 💚❤️💜
Soliban Bernal Yesssss this! And if they did bring the originals back they could just bring them back as they are now and haven’t done a youth spell yet.
As a viewers we thought that all scene was so easy but in reality and behind the scene so much works and effort just to make the film perfect and brilliant... kudos to the actor's especially the crew's behind each film that was made.... bravo...💪💪💪
I remember this show "Movie Magic!" Wish they would still show it...……… Bette Midler stated on this episode that she would make a part 2 to Hocus Pocus but I don't think she feels that way about it anymore lol.....
9:35 oh no! The broom just hits Thora Birch on her head during the set of “Hocus Pocus” (1993) I feel so bad for her when Bette Midler stopped and noticed what happened but it was really nice of Bette came to check on Thora Birch just to make sure she’s okay. It didn’t say that on the Wiki page at all. good thing the broom hit didn’t happen in the film. anyone agree with me by feeling bad for Thora Birch?
