I swear to heaven you're the best woman on Utube!!!! Heck the world!! You're brilliant!! 🤓 Thank you for sharing. You truly are a God send to those of us new to this stuff. I started gardening and canning for my health and trying to figure out a way to reduce at least some of the chemicals I consume. I too have Fibromyalgia but I also have degenerative disc and joint. (DDJD) I was actually diagnosed with juvenile arthritis in my early teens. (15ish) Now that I'm almost 50 my body is trying to crap out on me. I've had 5 back surgeries, am fused at 3 levels in my cervical spine, have had right shoulder and hip and left knee done, annnnd both feet and rt hand for carpal tunnel. YES! YES I do feel like flippin Swiss cheese! I got more holes than a sieve!! I'm sick of the pills, sick of doctors, sick of giving all my money away for CRAP that either doesn't work or barely works! It's pure BS! I guess that's why I always sound like a sappy freak when I say Thank You to you for all you're...
OOO, you are the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is something I have wanted to know about for most of my adult life. Nobody does these things any more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sending you Big hugs from Va. Thank you So very much
WONDERFUL VIDEO, Bev. Thank you SO much. I've been concerned about the packets of Certo and Ball pectin. I try to can my own organic fruit spreads, jams and jellies but now you've given me the ability to be just that more cognizant of how I feed my family. What a gift!
I'm glad you found some non sprayed apples. Thanks for another informative video!! I love seeing these since my mom or elders aren't here to show me all these tricks that I have seen when mother was a live.
doing cause I truly am grateful! I get some folks are butt holes and some make ya just wanna reach through the screen and choke the mess out of 'em but please, for as long as it's healthy for YOU keep the information coming. You are honestly appreciated by your viewers! Thanks again, sorry for the book, God Bless!
Thank found much for sharing this!!! Our neighbor has a huge organic apple tree and they don't eat apples so they gave us permission to pick all the apples we want every year. I will be making pectin now in addition to apple pie filling! Love this!
I watched this last fall and made the homemade pectin from some apples given to me buy a friend who doesn't spray their trees. Today I used it to make Wild Plum raspberry jelly. It is so good! I am so glad I watched your video find out how to do this. Thank you!
I love this! Thank you so much for sharing. There's a guy that does a u-pick half and keep half for his apple orchard, and I tried making applesauce last year but those green apples were not for applesauce. 😂This would a great idea for them. Going to do this! Yay🤩
Bev thank you for teaching me how to live a more simple life at the age of 13 as a girl I think it is important to know all these things much love from Texas
Darn girl, did you get burned bad. I know that must have hurt. That was very interesting to learn, THANK YOU BEV. I REALLY DID LIKE THIS. Geeze, get to learn something every day, I am glad for people like you and many others I have come to admire, for teaching me in my path to do better. If not for you all, who is to tell at how many mistakes and dozen of fails later would cost me.
OMG! It had been so long since I've been on your page! I have been out of the loop for a while! It feels good to be back to my roots and in my kitchen with you talking in the background!
Other suggests if you use lemon juice 2 table spoons or a bit more when boiling the fruit. The acid helps breaking down the fibre and extract more of the pectin...
you imagine pectin to be hard to make, but that was super easy... Thanks Mrs V..... Gotta love Gracie, when you're a puppy everything is either to chew on or to play with...lol
I really need to show this to Mom, but we've just been overrun w/Tomatoes this year. She's still got four big baskets on our deck to do & that's after the ten she's already canned. Plus, friends of ours from Cambridge who summer up here made a quick visit home this week & they brought us the most incredible Peaches!! They are big, juicy & taste like Peaches are supposed to. Before she went to bed, I put in a request for some to put aside for me to freeze for Smoothies &/or Frozen Fruit Pops. I've been wanting to try Grilled Peaches for a few years now, but either they weren't good enough or there weren't any. Not this year!! 😄 Sigh...I do love this time of year!! I love that POP sound too. You know all is well when you hear it. 😊
I have a steam juicer that We use to make juice for jelly and wine making ( and juice making of course). I'm going to try making pectin using that method instead of the stock pots. I have lots of apples this year that need to come off the tree before some limbs break, so I may as well experiment with them!
+OurHalfAcreHomestead I definitely will! I love my juicer, it was worth every penny imo. When I can pears and peaches, I throw all the skins in it and then can the juice for later. Makes jelly making a breeze. And the grape juice...don't even get me started, lol. Best. Stuff. Ever. If you invest in one, spend the extra dough and get a stainless steel one. It'll last a lifetime. The aluminum ones are cheap, and work, but give a weird aftertaste to the juice, and I just don't like the thought of all that aluminum leaching into my food.
I found your channel through Rain Country. Thanks for this wonderful tutorial! I'll have to stake out the church property soon, they have crab apple trees a plenty and they usually fall all over the road, people think it's a menace, but I will take advantage! :) From your profile photo, I'm guessing you are Canadian. We are currently living in Quebec, plans to move to the Maritimes next spring. Take care, I'm a new follower! :)
Rain Frances yes I do live in Quebec near Ottawa actually! What I found with the homemade pectin is cook it down more but when you strain the fruit do not squeeze the jelly bag you don't want to Cloud your pectin too much
Amazing. Thanks for sharing. 1-How long does it last without being rancid in a regular glass container without sealing? 2- how much in a sealed and sterilized glass container ??? Thank you
In an open container with a lid on in the fridge? a week? I am not sure...I would also cook the pectin down more than I do in the video..maybe reduce it by half..then use 1/2 a cup per jam batch. Hope this helps!
Thank you. Going to finish this a little later. I have been looking for a good Pectin Recipe!!! Can you use Crab apples? My friend has a tree she offered me to harvest all of.
I was given some Luden's throat drops, sold in the US, and I notice the active ingredient is pectin. I always felt they were nothing but hard candy. Have you ever used this pectin recipe to make hard candy cough drops?
I canned a bunch of pectin this year. I also have a pickle jar in the fridge. I wondered if there is any health benefits to drinking it. Or is there any other uses besides making jelly? I don't like to throw food away.
