This and MPU are the exceptions because one is meant to improve certain weapons kill power and the other is only good if your team can press x to see the map.

That is what I want it for. And if I keep my shoes with ink resist and bomb defense and swap out everything else I can go from running quick to spamming missiles once I get pures.

If you enjoy Salmon Run, the benefits for gear farming are really nice! Playing Ranked is a slightly faster way to earn money, but the food tickets can be a great way to significantly speed up the process of farming a piece of gear, and the extra chunks you can get from some bonuses don't hurt either!

@@SquidSchool Rank's definitely fast for money... For farming gear though it depends on the player. The issue is the very real factor that is losing matches and earning pocket dust for your efforts. I would think anybody capable of winning consistently enough to reap the benefits probably have a good grasp on proper chunk farming.

I use Amiibo to try and offset some of this downside by saving gear preferences and scanning to swap between them (rather than memorizing all my useful combos). Hopefully S3 will have this stuff built in instead of DLCed into Amiibo.

I actually think you have about the same problem using pures if, for example, you only want 2 subs of something. If you really want the gear to be right, you're probably not going to be able to reuse most of it.

The way I make builds is by choosing gear that matches by looks (yes, I am far enough into the game to do that because it doesn't just look better, but helps when remembering the gear set to use for each weapon) and makes it pretty hard to forget gear. I have a few pures from my early days that I made and literally never use now, but some that were close to pure I was able to switch out 1 or 2 chunks for useful utility subs like bdx or resist or even super jump. If you actually have more knowledge about abilities and each weapon (which you can even gain a basic understanding quickly by using sendou.ink and skimming all of your main weapons) having the gear specifics to perfect a build becomes more important than random pure builds that you use for everything. It's inefficient and likely only wastes slots on abilities that become almost useless when used in mass like bdx, special saver, and ink recovery are some quick examples. I won't go saying that you are just dumb for doing pures, but keep in mind they aren't very helpful in the long run. There are a few exceptions to this, such as a main and 3 pures of a different sub that actually are needed for your weapon (like my golden toothpick has 3 subs of ism that I use for e-liter which needs both of these, and was worth the 30 chunks and the drink to pure, which leaves the other two gears an easier job of getting the support subs I need by only scrubbing).

If you’ve seen a video about value subs, I usually put 2 subs of an ability I want + a value sub, based on the kind of gear - all my hats have 1 sub of inkres, all my shirts have 1 sub of bomb defense, all my shoes have 1 sub of quick super jump and while it means not all of my builds are perfectly customized to my weapon/playstyle, it’s very easy to mix and match to make new builds, and any new or more customized builds I want are pretty easy to make.

100% agreed. Plus for those that want to be more flexible in outfit combinations, having split up gear is not helpful. That's why I prefer perfect over pure gear and never split gear.

Yeah, I go into exceptional cases like this toward the end of the video. Usually it's something like MPU or some kind of movement speed (I know Devvy has a couple run speed pures for splatling builds)

@@SquidSchool I've one tricked foil squeezer for about a year and a half now and I have two pures of special power that I have on clothes and on a headpiece. Of course i dont use both on one build (unless I'm memeing lol) but since I have like 9 builds for foil squeezer, I'm saving a lot of chunks.

I've also seen splooshes run lots and lots of swim speed but yeah, those kinds of situations are what I'm talking about at the end of the video, where a weapon needs a lot of the same kind of gear.

This is good thinking; I have a pair of stealth jump shoes with 1 of QSJ, bomb defense, and special saver that I'll wear on half the weapons I play.

I did that. I had a lot of gear with 2 subs of the same thing. I was close to filling it in for my main gear. I need to go back to splatoon 2. I already miss it.

@@mekhiwatkins1535 I feel as a splatling player I can say that you'd only ever use 1 full pure of run speed, never 2, because you need room for stuff like values and possibly scu/ssu. You might use more than 3 mains worth of gear total tho, as I do on my remix set

Spending chunks on pures is really a only a good idea for things that need a LOT of MPU, which isn’t even in 3. Idk what abilities in 3 are good with lots (maybe Intensify Action? idk). There are websites that show the diminishing returns

Me too. I just think it's funny to have 3 pures of the same ability.

The system Judd is describing is that any kind of gear has diminishing returns. 1 sub of special saver individually gives like 3% more of your special back to you, whereas if you have 2 mains and 2 subs of it, the difference when you add a 3rd sub is way less than 3%. It doesn't have to do with any one piece of gear, just the total you've got of that gear ability across your whole outfit.

If your goal is just generally to grind chunks so you have a bank of them for later, run gear with empty slots and RNG will give you a nice balanced spread. Usually, though, there will be some chunks you want more of. Certain weapons need a ton of MPU, Quick Respawn, or Run/Swim Speed. Most builds want a little quick super jump, bomb defense, and maybe special saver. Do you have a weapon or playstyle that you'll probably end up making a build for?

Mostly some secondary builds for squeezer, but I already have a main build, so it’s not much of a priority. But I would like to learn h-3, and also get a better Bella build. But thanks! Will do!

@@_GloStick sendou.ink/builds highly recommend grabbing something from a top 500 player (marked with the orange crown logo when you search by weapon), if not copying it directly then at least letting it influence the build you're making. If you do need a lot more of one chunk than you currently have, you can use the gear brand that's more likely to give that chunk to farm it faster.

you can throw 2 bombs, but it requires at least 35 points of sub saver. So 2 mains and 5 subs at least.
