This 14+ hour long tutorial covers everything from winning bids, creating invoices, doing taxes, negotiating with clients, writing estimates, copyrighting your work, making money off infringements, marketing your work to the right people, and understanding how to budget for photoshoots costing upwards of $100,000.
If you are a proficient photographer who is already making amazing images, but you do not have the clients and business you would like, this tutorial will be the best investment you will ever make in your photography career.

People will spend $100k for a degree that gets them a $40k job or even $1500 on a camera body to "improve their photography," but a $300 business course seems steep? That's cheaper than an intro to business class at a community college. Just the billing templates and legal templates are worth more than $300.

Manny M. Exactly. Stock contracts alone are $500+!!! $300 is fair.

Well... Go start responding to proposals and come back when you land a $40,000 photo shoot when you're a nobody. I think this tutorial is probably great, but let's be honest. Someone who's charging $40-$100k a photo shoot, they're obviously well experienced with high end clients and they already know the business... Hence they know they're worth $40k. I couldn't ever think to approach Nike and say I want $100k. Who am I? No one. We need realistic tutorials for people who aren't at that level.

14 hours worth of instruction as a digital download you can review over and over versus paying way more for a 3 day class is worth the expense. Especially since you will use that info to increase your photography business income on a commercial level. Plus it is about the cost of a low end lens, a low cost lighting kit or a website subscription and can be written off later. It is a business investment and if you feel it will help your business, the price is reasonable. However, if you are a hobbyist and just learning the business side, maybe a trip to Barnes and Noble will be better suited as a start. Then get the download later if you feel it truly aligns with your photography business goals.

Ive been working for over 15 years now and never once have I been paid a usage fee. I imagine this applies to North America and possibly some European countries. These videos are very interesting but in reality I don't think many photographers are half as privileged to be in position to have a client willing to pay, let alone understand what usage fees are. This is my experience.
@FStoppers
@FStoppers 4 года назад
Where are you located? Usage fees are super common in the US and other western countries. Every single person we interviewed in this tutorial (about 8 high end creatives) completely understand usage and it's honestly where most commercial photographers are making their money. In many cases, the usage fees are greater than the creative fees and can provide you with residual income years down the road. Also, if you are in the real estate field, you might make a day rate and some usage from one client (a builder or architect) but then make money on the back end licensing the usage to the interior designer or the developer who also wants to use the images after you've already created them. Maybe your market isn't hip to usage but the big markets of the world are most definitely aware of usage (although they might be trying to get away from paying it). -P
@deanelliottstudio
@deanelliottstudio 4 года назад
@@FStoppers South Africa and now Chile. I am fully aware of usage fees and have always envied those countries that are in the know. Not a day goes by when i see photographers complaining about usage fees and the current state of photography when in fact most don't know the half of it. If I had the correct passport Im am almost certain that I would living a very different life. I can almost assure you. As I said, U.S. and Europe are privileged to still be charging these fees, and I wouldn't be surprised that a day may come when a generation of photographers so hungry for work will slowly corrode the idea. Most of my responses regarding usage is that the client owns the image. When you try to explain to them the idea that they are paying you for using your work, they simply say, "didnt I already pay you for that" then they likely take offence and think you're trying to ask too much. Sadly, this is some of our reality. Hence, these tutorials do nothing more than make me envious and feel frustrated. But educational nonetheless.

Very interesting but this appears very much USA orientated. Here in Europe we have a different mentality so I feel much of the content will not apply to our market. The trailer is very tempting, I would love to purchase this course but feel due to its limitations (US market) I may well be wasting my money.

Monte shoots internationally and he has contracts and bids included in this that are from Amsterdam, Singapore, and Hong Kong (and others). It's very much about international shooting, but yes, like everything in business, you will have to adopt some of the ideas slightly differently depending on your market and country.

@monteisom
@monteisom 6 лет назад
This absolutely does apply to the UK market. There are some different practices in the UK but most of the info is shared are concepts that work for any clients. I do a lot of focus on ad agencies but that accounts for a portion of people who hire photographers. The big question is the kind of photography you do or want to do. Tell me what you shoot or want to shoot and I can answer honestly if I think this tutorial is worth it.

@monteisom
@monteisom 6 лет назад
many people are asking if this tutorial applies to their market and specifically in Europe. I show examples from jobs bid in Amsterdam, Shanghai, Brazil and USA specifically to show that the same principles apply internationally....not just the US. Now if a European photographer wishes to shoot for global brands they should focus on Amsterdam as it has a truly international mix of people living and working there....so brands tend to use ad agencies in Amsterdam to get the temperature of all of Europe as opposed to a singular local view. As for the editorial market in Europe I cannot give a ton of relevant information as i've only sold images as stock to euro based mags and have not been commissioned by them. Much of what I cover in the video are concepts and principals that I back up with real life experience. I did this specifically to not exclude anyone. I hope this helps you decide of if this tutorial can help you as a photographer living in a market outside of the US..

Sian Pearce Gordon I read your comment perfectly, I know what you said, and what you're implying. Everything is worth What people are willing to pay, and if you find the price to be "too steep" then this seems not important enough for you to make the sacrifice. This video is probably only an 1/8th of what you spent on your camera, you could make the sacrifice if you really wanted to. Dropping the price point of these tutorials too low may as well be selling it for free after all involved take their share. I don't think you're being very realistic, especially when considering this sort of information is invaluable! To each their own, though.
