A step by step video about making these tables. They are made from end grain slabs of ash. End grain slabs gives a cool effect of showing the cross section of a tree where all the growth rings are visible. It can be challenging sometimes to count each and every one..

Nice tips on the sander . Were these air dried ? I have an oak one roughly finished that I put in my house to see if it would finish drying by the heat of the wood stove . I had routed out a pocket and installed a piece of ply wood that covered most of the bottom . I just put metal legs on so it could be used . So far it is holding up . I am not sure if I will be trying to fill in the cracks or not . Glad to see a new video . Thanks .

Hey Robin, thanks for your comment and sorry for my late reply. Been super busy these past few days. These cookies were airdried for about 2 years, but i did put them in the kiln just for a short while, i do that to kill off any bugs. Nice idea using plywood on the bottom!

Haha I’m glad we’re not alone. Thanks Bruce for commenting. These bowties were around 20mm thick or 3/4”. When making smaller bowties for small checks etc, I usually make them a little thinner.

So many bullshit woodworking videos out there, UNLIKE yours WHICH are extremely professional and informative, demonstrating respect for older tools and techniques while incorporating effective modern ones, it’s a pleasure to be gaining insight rather than hurling insults at a overwrought aspirational woodworker. And, praise the lord, your take on the epoxy craze could not be more accurate imo. I’ve been using epoxy forever and find it infinitely useful, but used as a finish material it has become ridiculous and clichéd, I question how long it will last, and it’s consuming inordinate amounts of petrochemical material in the process. It’s to a point that it just seems dumb to me. Your aesthetic is timeless unlike that of the epoxy craze.
