Making Smith & Wesson Revolvers 

Look forward to them making the move to Tennessee.

I've been carrying a 640 everyday for almost 30 years and I still love it. The Airweight back then was not rated for +P and it came with wood grips that are still on the gun. It's a great close range, point and shoot revolver that is extremely easy to conceal.

Nothing more beautiful than a Smith and Wesson revolver.

Why is there usually not much about the actual manufacturing process on this gun tour shows. Show how it is actually built, i have no interest in listening to some blue shirt talking about imaginary quality, i want to see the manufacturing process from A to Z...

I bought both a model 586 and a model 19 carry comp in 2020. The 586 is great. Smooth action and accurate. The Carry Comp is another story. It has been back to S&W twice. Remember, the Carry Comp was supposedly made in the Performance Center and should have been the better made gun. Their was a problem with the tritium in the front sight, and the action seemed very stiff after 500 rounds. The 586 was the better gun. It went back to Smith and after 2 months they sent it back saying they found nothing wrong and no action was taken. Oddly enough the front sight now had a tritium vial in it and was loose. It wobble. I sent it back again, waited another 2 months, and it came back with a list of parts that were replaced. The action is still stiff and the 586 is a lot smoother. It is not going back again! I will just have to live with it and hope that eventually the parts will ‘break in’. So much for the Performance Center.

My 686 357 has been my favorite since I purchased it in late 80's. You can't beat a 6" 686 in 357

Get rid of the internal locks. I really do not understand why S&W will not listen to customers.

Just spent 1000$ on a m&p340 the fram came with mill marks all along the side the cylinder swings out to. its back at the factory now fingers crossed but honestly my hopes for it being fixed are not high.

HEY, Smith and Wesson!! Maybe you should go back to pinning your barrels so they quit rotating after firing a few shots, causing the rounds to start missing the target. Sound good?!

I wish they'd bring back the old school 5906, 5946, 6906, and 6946 semi-automatic handguns. Those were so well crafted and unfortunately, Smith and Wesson stopped making them.

Oh,and make sure you check the fit on the crane to frame which used to be tight and now are sent out the door with 2 mm gaps on the Centennial J-frames.

Own a lot of Smiths love them. But get rid of the key lock an make them like you used to.

I also own a model 329PD but switched the titanium cylinder out for a stainless steel cylinder from Smith and Wesson.

Please put a white outline on the rear sight on the classic 19. Bring back the 8 shot model 27 with model 29 style barrel in a 5" barrel.

Why does S&W still keep the “Hillary Hole”? Who ever locked their revolver with a key? If the lock is a good idea, put it on your semiautomatics. IMHO, revolvers are much safer than semiautomatic pistols.

S&W needs to drop that lock, I saw one accidentally lock up at the range.

When I turned 21 back in 1971 one of the first things that I did was to buy a new Model 28 Highway Patrolman N frame in .357 magnum for $ 95.00. It was the lesser finished version of the Model 27 . Later I managed to purchase a 27 I still have these guns decades later. Back then the fit and finish was superior to what is being turned out today. I will never buy a S&W revolver that has an internal lock, a/k/a a Hillary hole which is totally nonsensical.

YOU GUY'S AT SMITH AND WESSON NEED TO START MAKING THE .38 TWO INCH MUZZLE 5 SHOT OLD STYLE BODY GUARD WITH THE HUMP BACK OR SHROUDED HAMMER REVOLVER IN STEEL AGAIN, YOU ONLY MAKE THEM IN THE LIGHT WEIGHT VERSON, NOT EVERYONE LIKE'S THE ALUMINIUM FRAME VERSON, YOU DO MAKE THEM IN 357 STAINLESS WITH THE HUMPBACK WITH THE 2 INCH MUZZLE BUT THEY ARE A LITTLE HEAVY.

I think I'd prefer a very good condition gun from their heyday over current products.

Ask S&W to bring back their Night Guard line. Without the lock.

I ordered a new 648 22 magnum last year. Right out of the box the ejector rod was bent. The front of the yolk has a dull mate finish compared to the rest of the frame and is about two and a half thousands of an inch shy of being flush with the frame. I'll never buy another S&W revolver.

I bought a 629-6 in 2012 that had a canted barrel and the company wouldn't fix. I sold it and never bought a Smith ever again.

I have plenty of S&W revolvers, but when Taurus and Kimber put out 6 shot snubbies that fit in the same holsters as my J-frames I sold 4 of my J-frames. Taurus, Ruger, and Kimber (for concealed carry revolvers) have really closed the gap in quality and performance. If push came to shove, the only S&W revolver I would keep would be my 3" 686 Plus (a masterpiece). My Rugers and Taurus guns are just better guns -- just not as pretty. It's a shame. S&W needs a major renovation -- most on their production lines date back decades. Look at Taurus's on-line factory tour -- the place looks like a hospital with beautiful and clean hi-tech machines. S&W's plant looks like a dark dungeon -- and they have to fabricate spare parts on their own to keep their production running -- the companies that supplied their machines are all gone or are no longer supporting their obsolete equipment!

My model 15-3 combat masterpiece has been my nightstand gun for years, stoked with FBI load.

I dont like a two piece bbl. Also the lock is absolutely ridiculous.

Love my smiths wheel guns, but will not own anything made with a Hillary hold so as you can guess all mine are classic.

I carried a SW airweight for years because my job required me to be in inner city neighborhoods after dark sometimes. I needed a pistol I could carry in a pocket. A pistol in my car would be useless while walking around. The 38P is plenty. Ask Lee Harvey Oswald.

I own 2 from the 80s that I love but did they ever resolve the barrel cant on some revolvers?

I just bought a 629 somethings Off. the barrel is pointing about a "1/32 to the left of the frame and slightly off center but everything else is nice I have five S&W revolvers I usually just fix them. this one is not fixable but its still safe to shoot so I don't think they'll do anything about it. I'd still buy another one if I could find one thats a little better 😐

If you insist on the stupid lock, at least move it to the hammer so we can yank it out and throw it in the trash to put an aftermarket hammer in. Let the parts makers fill the market demand Smith & Wesson refuses to.

No longer in Massachusetts there anti gun laws have forced them out. Along with all of these jobs. And supporting business around the facility. Millions lost. Only means that all pistols prior to the move have gained value.

Can you do like carvings in your revolver (the metal) so it looks cooler? Anyone knows?

Nicely made guns but the internal lock is the deal breaker. I purchase Colt Python instead of the Smith & Wesson model 19 with internal lock.

Lightweight 44 Magnum kicking like a mule I own the model 65/1 k frame detective model in 357 Magnum stainless and it's just as beautiful today as it was in 1975 when it was made you can't even tell it's been fired it's just that nice Smith & Wesson did and does make some nice guns but they should have left that lock and key mechanism off and I don't like the way they put a steel sleeve in the barrel now

I really wanted one of the model 19's but they ruined it with a two pice barrel. What a shame. And them they want to price these in the upper atmosphere

I own two J Frames and an M&P Bodyguard .38.

No hammer on a model 36 J frame is a dumb idea. I have and carry a 1967 model 36. While I can shoot it well double action I’d miss the ability to shoot it single action. And the new model 19 is a poor rendition of the original model 19 which is my favorite revolver in my safe.

I want to see a video out of the NEW Tennessee facility.

S&W should up their QC. What they’ve been cranking out lately is terrible. The P.C. is a laugh.

I like my old S&W 19 and 66 a lot, but when I added a new revolver recently it was a Colt Python. It would have been a S&W 686 or a 29, but I’m not buying a revolver with that absurd lock on it. Rather support companies who listen to their customers. Colt has a better product.

Almost nothing about actually making these firearms. More like a commercial.

👍 I purchased two S&W revolvers in 2021 and the function, fit and finish are fantastic. I just wish they would eliminate the internal lock or at least make it a optional feature.

I would buy one if they did away with the key lock hole on the side of the gun. that model 19 looks great.

There’s plenty of S&W revolvers out there. It’s called the used market. I’ve bought 3 in the last couple month. Only place I’ll buy a S&W revolver because of the lock. Colt, Ruger and others can manage w/o a lock.

In our area, finding a Smith and Wesson revolver (any decent double-action revolver)...is like panning, for diamonds. I can't wait, until we can see, some firearms market stability again!

Over all well done. I own but one Smith and Wesson. A chief’s special air weight snub nose in .38 + P . It’s a quality piece.

I own a 5 and 6 inch m.27. A 4 inch 586. A 6 inch m.29. The 586 shoots like magic.

This didn't have much on how they're made.. it was just an Ad for their revolver line up. :(

I love my Classic Series M27, but please for the love of all things good and holy, get rid of that stupid and useless inter grated gun lock!

taurus makes much better pistols.. s&w uses very soft low quality steel

I have personally known a 642 to go over 5k rounds (was still going strong). They are great guns. Wouldn't own a bodyguard 38 again though. Oh and edit: know 5k isn't that much but is more than what most anybody would shoot.

Just wondered why the 649 j frame 357 is no longer in production. I love the shrouded hammer. Got the 438 as well!

Most of the newer j frames have very heavy d/a trigger pulls. I suspect they are using heavier springs maybe for liability or maybe these new primers need 16 lbs. of force to set them off. I wish they could meet the old with the new and everyone would be a winner. Welcome to Tn.

It'll be nice to have a slightly enlarged J frame that holds six shots of .357 Magnum.

I own both a 460V S&W magnum with a five inch muzzle brake equipped full lug barrel and a 500 S&W magnum with a 6.5 inch semi-lug ported barrel. Both are about 60 ounces unloaded but the 460V has a 5 inch muzzle brake equipped has a full lug barrel and my 500 S&W has a semi-lug barrel profile.

Taurus ultralight six shot revolver in stainless is a much better choice than the Smith & Wesson heavy j frame that's just my thought thank you for the video
