Hey everyone! Thanks for watching my first ever attempt at making a sourdough bread loaf using my own homemade starter.
Here is the link to the video on how I made my starter:
• Making a Sourdough Sta...
Since this was my first time making a sourdough loaf using a starter, I followed a recipe from a website called "Bless this Mess."
Here is a link to the recipe on their website:
www.blessthismessplease.com/e...
Ingredients:
50 Grams (1/4 Cup) Active Sourdough Starter
350 Grams (1 1/3 Cups + 2 Tbsp) Warm Water
500 Grams (4 Cups + 2 Tbsp) Bread Flour
10 Grams Salt (1 1/2 tsp)
Instructions
Mix starter and warm water in a medium mixing bowl and let the mixture sit for 10 minutes.
Add the flour and salt and combine to form a shaggy dough. It might not even look like bread dough yet, but after the next step you will begin to see the transformation!
Cover the bowl and let it sit at room temperature for about an hour. After an hour, pull the dough from the edges and tuck it into the middle. Rotate the bowl as you work. Do this step about 3 times until you feel the dough begin to tighten.
Move the dough to a larger oiled mixing bowl, cover and let sit until it has doubled in size. This can take anywhere from 8 -15 hours. I even had to wait 24 hours on a cooler day. Just set the bowl in a warmish spot in the kitchen and wait.
Once it has doubled, move the dough to the counter as you form your loaf. Be gentle and pull the dough toward you as you move it around.
Place the dough ball (smooth side down) in an oiled and floured mixing bowl. Let sit at room temperature for about 2 hours.
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F.
Sprinkle flour on the top of your loaf and score the top of it.
Place the loaf in a Dutch oven and place the cover on the Dutch oven.
Bake for 30 minutes with the cover on the Dutch oven, then remove the cover and bake for another 30 minutes.
Success! Let the dough completely cool before slicing.
Thanks for watching!

The rising time is determined by your temperature and humidity, but is it possible to over proof the dough if you aren't checking it frequently?

@@petermeredith8698 It is possible. I’ve done it. The bread comes out more dense. I’m still experimenting..

@@petermeredith8698 it is possible because I’ve done it! Bread comes out dense. Not good! Keep an eye on it. Trial and error.
