Making sunglasses from hardened denim. 12 years of development

I make sunglasses in my workshop in Cornwall, England. I’ve been developing them for 12 years and their most unique characteristic is that they’re made from denim that I’ve hardened with resin. My design and process has been constantly evolving and it’s changed quite a bit since I made recorded the visuals for this video a few years ago. But those visuals took me so long to film, that I thought I’d share it again. Bon appetite!

Wow, love to have a pair. I made my own denim sandals, and i still wear them. Some days you just want to be that denim girl.

💡 Jack, the denim is a great idea and looks really spiffy. Have you considered a different kind of fabric .. in particular, carbon fibre? It comes in woven sheets, which wouldn't be too far a departure from your denim process, plus it looks super cool in resin! It could make a nice variant in your ensemble, and you might even find that its properties require less reinforcing than denim, making it easier to work with.

Question: how to you keep the denim from sticking to the press after infusing it with resin? And would it not be better to texture then before you polish and sand them so you tont scratch it up? Love you work!
