Welcome back to the channel! In todays video I show you guys how to make your own super stretchy baits at home. Using bait plastics flex x 200 we make some of the most durable soft plastics I have seen! This is both a guide an experiment on making elastomer style baits at home. I use zman elastitech baits all the time and wanted a similar type of plastic to use with my own custom designs. Using the flex x 200 we inject some of my custom 3d printed soft plastic lure molds.
Check out my channel and see all the baits I made: / @handcraftedangling
If you have any further questions this guide does not cover drop a comment down below and I will do my best to answer it.
If there's a fishing lure you want made let me know in the comments!
Enjoy and go catch some fish!!!

Learned a bit this morning. Thank you. I am just getting started making soft baits. Once I receive my injector and mold I will be giving this a go. Thank you once again.

If you are new to bait making I do not recommend using this product. And do not keep these baits in any sort of warm environment. If you live in the south you better keep them in your ice chest

I deffinitly agree with this not being a beginner friendly plastic. How supseptible is this stuff to heat? Ive heard it has issues but its winter and I cant test that. Is a cooler really nessisairy or does it just need to be kept out of the sun?

If you live up north you may be ok. I had them in my tackle bag in mid 90’s and they were a gooey mess

Yep same as everyone says they need to be kept cold. If in bags they will melt get flat spots on them even get soft and deformed in sun on a jig hook setting in sun in boat. Fish like them but for personal use keep in box in cooler with no pressure on sides of baits. Worth while but keep them cool and loose in a box.

Ive put this plastic on the back burner. It does not play nice with 3d printed molds. The resin does not absorb the heat quickley and creats all sorts of issues.

That’s really cool I never thought you could get the super stretchy plastic. I thought you could only buy Z man elastics!

Yea I am very excited to try it out on the water. I'm working on some new soft plastic designs and revamping some of my old ones. As soon as I get everything in order I'm gonna start making some in different colors and making some finished baits. I have a lot of ideas for this stuff if it works out.

This stuff is great for personal use but if you are selling baits they will not survive the shipment, they melt and deform VERY easily WAY more so than ZMan. I put them in packaging and placed them in my mailbox for 2 hours on a 70 degree day and they were toast. I tried everything Bait Plastics suggested, curing in ice baths, rolling in salt, lots of worm oil in packaging etc etc. Basically they told me everyone that uses this stuff uses thermo formed plastic trays shaped like their baits to keep them from deforming, even then they will still melt. As said though, if you use it for personal use and can keep them in a cooler while fishing they will be okay.

Yeah I'm a little worried about the heat tolerance. This is all for personal use so I'm not worried about shipping but if it truly has to be kept in a cooler that's gonna be a problem. Its still pretty cold up here so I cant test that. I store most of my baits in a shed and it hit 80 degrees outside one day and they didn't melt. If its 70 outside and the sun is beating down on a metal mailbox it might be quite a bit warmer inside than 70 degrees. I've been having other issues with this stuff with bubbles and air pockets. I ordered a mixing pot and I am waiting for that to come before I try anything else with it. Unfortunately I have had much better luck fishing with tpe type baits than regular plastisol and I would love to have my custom designs made out of it. So for now I am stuck tooling around with this stuff.

@@HandCraftedAngling how have the 3D printed molds been working out for you in general? Inject at a lower temp yeah?
@HandCraftedAngling
@HandCraftedAngling 12 дней назад
For the resin ones no. I have gone up to 350 375 no issues. I tested out 400 plus for a different kind of plastic that did cause it to warp. The biggest concern with the resin molds is they arent as riged. The require more clamping across the mold then a aluminum one. Im working on a new alingment pin desing but I got that on the back burner while Im testing out hard baits on the resin printer.

For the 3d printable molds will regular PLA work?
@HandCraftedAngling
@HandCraftedAngling 4 месяца назад
Ive never tried it. For the stuff i used in this video i deffinitly would not use pla. It warped one of my resin molds. If you are using regular plastisol I have heard of people using pla. I would think the smaller molds would work more than larger molds. I would keep your temps as low as possible.

Do the baits float?
@HandCraftedAngling

Yes this plastic is floating
@SergioMottaOldSchool
@SergioMottaOldSchool 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for sharing this experience, having a floating, flexible and resistant plastic has always been my dream. I live in Brazil and plastic with these characteristics that I find here has a negative point, which is that it makes the bait sticky and sticky. Does this product you tested in the video make the bait sticky?
@HandCraftedAngling
@HandCraftedAngling 5 месяцев назад
This is the first time ive tried it. It mat become sticky when it gets warm but its winter now so im not sure. It does however leach oil over time and becomes slippery

This stuff is not worth the trouble when it get to 70 degrees out side the baits will go flat if you dont keep them on ice you cant even leave them on the deck of your boat for more than 5 minutes.

@HandCraftedAngling 5 месяцев назад
I apriciate the heads up. I havent been able to try out the heat resistance as its still winter. Does it still flatten out at that temp if its out of durect sunlight?
