Honestly Jeff, I have no idea how you come up with solutions to these problems (obviously incredibly clever) but its a thrill to watch you work it all out! Well done!!!!!

Using as much off-the-shelf and already engineered parts is always the way to go with custom projects. Nothing is as frustrating as not being able to drive because some simple part is broken that in the past you decided would fit better if it was custom made. Also especially true regarding complicated stuff like steering, brakes and suspension geometry.

Love watching your engineering brain going through its problem solving faze of the build, I used to do the same with my late father building timber cranes for his own use, he had met a guy in the local driver and vehicle licensing office who was an avid ex army truck buff who kept us right on the legality of our builds if only all local government was like that 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Vehicles were originally designed for the usa. We drive on the opposite side so the cab lends to be a easier fit for doing most controls your fighting with. I had a fifty six ford half ton stepside pickup back in nineteen seventy one. I really loved that truck and still would like to enjoy owning one. Almost of them are long gone do to rust and left in the woods long forgotten.

Interesting to see how the first bulkhead cut goes from a small precise rounded corner hole to removing bulk of it with an angle grinder 😅. Sign of how difficult making these things not only fit but also work are. You are doing a great job 👍

The steering and pedals looks like a very difficult problem set. Great work
@jesscneal
@jesscneal 7 дней назад
You should probably adjust the angle of the foot pads on the pedals too. If you think about the seating position in the Coaster vs in the F truck, it is much lower in the F truck and your feet will not sit flat on the pads if you leave them as is. As far as the lowering blocks are concerned, I know you said you are getting the springs re-arched but you can just build your own blocks from 75x50 SHS or whatever size you need. Lookin good Jeff.

I love that I've watched your videos for so long now, that I know they're worth watching, well worth waiting for. Sunday mornings wouldn't be anywhere near as good without you and your 'fun & games'. Thank you. I can't believe I found you all those tears [edit: years] ago when you were doing the Porsche lettering on the back of Harry. I have no idea how long ago that was?? 🤔 A few years? If I get halfway near as good as you and your channel, I'll be a very happy man. 🤔 Maybe that's why you're always so good. You know you'll get there, the viewers are appreciative of the journey too. Thank you Jeff. Jamie

Hi Jeff, I understand you wanted to keep the Coaster pedal box intact, however it looked like such a complicated solution using the under dash setup. I would have thought in the long run it would be easier to mount the booster through the firewall in the conventional fashion and make up a new pedal assembly. Makes it a lot easier for future maintenance as well. Regarding the rear suspension I haven't read all the comments so its probably been mentioned many times, but you could remove all but the top leaf from the spring pack. This will still locate the axle, then use air bags as helper springs. This would allow you to control the rear ride height and also drop the back down to make loading the car easier. Keep up the good work, I like the show and look forward to the new episode each week.

@hotdognr12323
@hotdognr12323 6 дней назад
This is really taking shape, it's so fun to watch! My mind instantly jumped to a potential solution when you brought up needing to enclose the pedal box; If you build out a simple flat-ish firewall to support the pedals and steering column, but leave it open where the pedals and feet would intersect it, you can then build a completely detachable "bubble" around it all, using some simple but sturdy over-center latches or similar to affix it, and a universal D- profile car door weather strip to seal around it all. This would provide you with basically the same level of access you have now in just a few seconds without any tools. And with the right latches and seal it would be very sturdy and should seal perfectly as well.

G’day Jeff, I lowered a xb falcon back in 93 by getting the leaves heated up and they were able to lower the car as well as keep my rear suspension firm and smooth. I’ve been using this method ever since. I like the under dash booster setup ( I’ll put that into the memory bank) , you could now run remote reservoirs into the engine bay for both the brake and clutch, for easy servicing. Love the show mate Cheers mouse

Jeff, so far you have done this "Merican" hot rodder's heart well as you bring this truck back to life. I'd like to ask a question- it's not a "do it my way", I'm just curious; would it have been possible to put the master cylinder under the floor? There were a lot of such prior to 1950, not many after, but it was an option once or twice for me. Now back to the important part-Fun Facts with Mrs. Jeff!

Also, not sure where you heard the 56 cabs are bigger but they are the same size as the 53-55. The door is shaped differently because of the wrap around windshield. The door length front to back is approx 35.5" on both. My dad owned a 53, a 55 and a 56.

I assumed, it was because of the door the windscreen and the roof being different. Interesting. The 56 definitely looks better.

Hi just a thought on torsion bars and lowering, generally when you just lower the vehicle by winding down the torsion bar crank, you loose to much spring tension, what you will probably need to do is to remove and rotate the crank on the torsion bar splines, this will maintain your required spring rate, I would suggest whilst the cab is off, is pull them off and on now, as they can be a bitch to get off, especially if they have been on a while, (will make future adjustments so much easier later on).
@HomeBuiltByJeff
