It is common to use graphit as a joint seal. Next time try scratching a pencil on a seal for a simple detachment. The whole seal shoud be covered with graphit though and the process might take some time.
I have to ask: do you have access to a ball mill? They're great for thoroughly mixing powders together as well as grinding down any clumps. Just beware of balancing the weight and how fast you go, because high speeds may result in reactions and/or phase changes.
Oh, you're describing a centrifugal mill. Yes those things can explode if not used correctly. The drum tumbler style will work for most applications, just much much slower.
Mabye in the next video you can make the lab joint greaser for your glass but you must work with what you got and well you still make the chemical you wanted so it works
You can also use concentrated sulfuric acid as a joint seal. The only downside is that if you dont clean the joint well, it'll comtaminate your product when you go to pour it out.
i'm not used to this many, relatively consistently uploaded chemistry videos, coming from watching channels like nile red and Explosions&Fire. It's simply not how chemistry channels are supposed to run...
Nice one! :) Next time you probably grease only the upper half of the joint. Otherwise it can contaminate your product, which effects the yield (thats even more important, if you want to crystalize sometthing out) Stay on it! 🙂
We use pyridine at the lab I work at. It's hard to describe the smell of hot pyridine. It goes straight to my stomach. One of the other techs says it smells like pickles. I think they have problems. 😂
I don't think it smells like fish at all. It smells super weird and does a weird kinda menthol-ly thing in the nose but it doesn't smell fishy to me. I have two hypotheses. a) It doesn't actually smell like fish to anyone but some people do sense that it is an amine and their brains categorise it as something adjacent to a fish smell. b) There are genetic differences which means it does actually smell like fish to some people and not to others.
Pyridine doesn't smell like fish for me at all. At low concentration it does have sort of a rotten odor, but otherwise it has a pretty unique smell, not that horrible as some describe, which I cannot compare to anything else I smelled.
I'm not a chemist. I did study a very little amount of chemistry in high school. I still find these videos fascinating. I do some metal casting, electroplating, anodizing, woodworking. All sorts of stuff. It's amazing how much chemistry knowledge you can use in other areas though. I suppose you could say everything all comes back to chemistry eventually. I doubt that I will ever make pyridine but I still find these videos interesting to watch.
@Amateur Chemistry Is it OK for you to extract phosphorus from urine as ammonium magnesium phosphate also known as the mineral struvite? I can give a procedure on how to do that if you would like.
Are you going to make the ruthenium bypyridine complex? I wasn’t sure you could make that from simple pyridine, but I was kinda hoping it was possible as I was going to try anyway.
In theory yes but it would take so many steps it's not practical. Also if you have to ask you probably don't know enough about chemistry to attempt complex dangerous synthesis
