Can't wait to get my hands on that baby, it's been long 5 years of waiting :D Def my future stuntbike. Hats of to the whole Duke 790 project team, you have done an outstanding job - RokON!
I saw the prototype at a bike show, it was one of the best looking motorcycles I've ever seen. Some of the design cues are reminiscent of the MV Agusta Brutale.
WTF it will obviously not look like this. I know it won't have the cool exhaust under the seat because of the ''Euro 4 Norm'', but it won't have that ugly front shield and it will get a nicer design.
I really hope they remove the passenger seat though. I don't buy a KTM bike for this purpose: I want a very light and torquy bike. They don't need that extra weight.
Come on KTM, offer a 'bolt-on' kit to return the bike to as close to its original design as possible. Something after market. I wish Husqvarna would have done this for the 701 Supermoto.
I hope most of the design elements from this prototype version makes it to the final design. Otherwise I'll just settle for the 2017 390 or its 2018 upgrade.
Such a pity so munch will have to be compromised from the designers inception to meet euro 4 regs. It's USP underseat pipe consigned to the bin, replaced with ugly/conventional side exhaust. Muted, restricted, and watered down.... The Scalpel is blunted even before it attempts to dissect it's first asphalt apex
evolve or die. the future is all about efficiency and cleanliness, if motos can't keep up the alternative is that they disappear. Better to find solutions to an impending problem rather than bitching about the changing times, cause it's gonna happen either way. engineers are smart, they'll figure out a way to maximize power while still meeting standards. necessity breeds innovation
Everyone is complaining that the "production" version in the spy shots looks hideous. You're right, the bike in those spyshots is very ugly, but I think it's safe to say the finished product will instead sit somewhere between the SuperDuke and the 390 Duke in styling. It's got the same headlight, and so it should follow the same sharp queues implemented on the 390, which is a hundred times better than the old 390. And really, if you put the SuperDuke, 390 and the original 790 prototype next to one another, you can see the similarities to the 790 in the other two production bikes. I can't see how they'd dumb down that styling when they've already made it work in production.
They messed up the rear end though, if it looked the same as the 390 or 1290 Id be ok with that, but they went wild with the prototype and taming that style to production version really didnt work out, it's got an angry front half and a plain rear end. I really love that partly exposed painted frame on the latest 390 and 1290.
How about a 1090 Super Duke, to have a less expensive little brother to the 1290. The gap between the 690 and 1290 is the size of the grand canyon, basically going from lightweight super motoesque bike to monster supernaked.
Hahaha no. The 1290 super duke, for example, has a habit of breaking from sucking in "unclean air" that somehow gets past the air filter. Great quality.
ktm cant even get the 2017 duke 390 to pass emissions in the u.s. with bikes sitting of shore waiting to be let into the country. How the hell are we gonna get one of these?
if the concept bike was going into production i would have bought it. seeing what the actual 790 is going to be.... i will never buy that ugly piece of shit.fucking ugly. very dissapointed.
