Aimee's Teletubby trip feels like having the worst dream that could still be considered a dream and not a nightmare. Edit: came back to this a year later, this still true, but worse. That definitely woke up something in another dimension and now that thing is coming for me. It may never reach me but it's definitely trying.

Love how Shubh Saran used time to help pound the feeling home.... Too many people forget time is part of music and how different time signatures can make you feel grounded or unsettled or just out there

Shubh's one was just so damn good. Rhythmically even beyond the Lydian was insane.

I really appreciate how everyone used Lydian as a jumping off point for a bunch of conscious decisions about non-harmonic decisions. Treating pitch as an equal partner to rhythm, timbre, form, etc. made this so much better than “hey let’s just play up the minor seconds.”

This is such a cool way to demonstrate that the “rules” are made to be broken. It is really valuable to know things like the lydian mode really well SO THAT you can make unique sounds like these.

I... loved all of them? None of them sounded “ugly” to me. Menacing, maybe. Creepy, perhaps. Scary even. But ugly? Nah. I guess the concept of ugliness is too subjective. Not that I’m complaining, tho!

Justice Cow's interpretation of vibes is so accurate. It's also incredibly close to the makers inspiration most of the time. Really interesting. The chewing on glass and cave metaphor were dead on!

I love this I've watched it half a dozen times already, I know it comes with practice and experience but shubh's grasp of time signatures and unusual rhythms is just amazing, truly something to aspire to, awesome piece. Jessica's was intriguing, great contrast between the airy bits and the more aggressive sounding intense bits. Amy's piece was the very essence "unnerving" brought to life, very dark and tense, Tyler's piece *was* objectively beautiful, the B-section had a great kind of airy open vibe which contrasted nicely with that tense suspenseful finger picked a-section, definitely had the Vaimus vibe. And yours, Adam, just damn, again, it had that awesome contrast between the ugly 2nd intervals and that backing string/synth line, and the way it built up then kind of "deconstructed" itself to the bare bass at the end was a great ending. I don't think any of these were actually ugly, in essence they still had the lydian intrigue, which is exactly what I think the raised 4th brings to the lydian scale, it's not *just* a major scale, the absence of a perfect 4th brings a level of character that makes certain ideas not difficult to express but it makes you approach them differently. Awesome. Time to watch it again.
