A while ago I build an acrylic tank 40x40x40cm and 4mm thick. About 64 Liter.
I lost the footage somehow, but I always wanted to build two so I just filmed the second one.
And here it is, the tutorial :) a guide for making my DIY twin acrylic cube tank.
3 Sheets (40x40x4)
2 Sheets (40x38x4)
Opening: (40x40x4) with like 35x35 hole (R5cm corners)
for around 95€ or 105$
and a liquid glue (I used Dichlormethan) for 10€ or 11$
Weld-on (Brand) is also great but wasn't available in Europe
and bottles with needles for maybe 5 bucks
with shipping it was around 130€ or 143$

I would've done the top first then the bottom. That way, they are both from the inside.

@@GrowingInterest I think I'm guna try this for an auto top off reservoir instead of spending $380 for the one that I found that is the size and shape I want.

Dichloromethane is strong ? For 4mm...I’m following ur steps ..thanks for the video ..just want to make sure the solvent will work or not ! \

Yes it's "welding" the acrylic together and than disappears, leaving a solid acrylic box :) I'm Grad the video helps 👍 make a water tight test :)

I'm not against acryl, but it's so easy to scratch it

That's true, but also easy to remove. Scratches in glass are tough 😩

That's just the magic of editing :D this will be another Amazon themed cube, with plants and fish from the Amazon River system :) it's a twin tank 💚

Hi I would just like to ask are all of the dimension equal? I mean would the base require a few mm or inches to have a perfect fit? Thanks

the sides where 404mm and the base 408mm so the inside is 400x400x400mm

I got it from an online shop who sells chemicals. Depends on your country for availability. Silicone is also suitable for acrylic stuff :)

yes and no, It bows a bit but with the rim on top it's fine :) nearly not noticeable

Why have 3 40x40 but 2 40x38?

@@GrowingInterest he was asking about the parts of the cube.. why are there three squares of 40x40 and two of 40x38. It's because the bottom and two of the sides are all the same dimensions (40x40), and the other two sides are smaller because they are installed between the first two sides.. this way the two 40x40 sides are parallel but so are the two 40x38.. Now the problem with this is that the smaller sides should be 40x39.2.. because the sheets are 4mm thick.. and from the total of 40cm, the smaller side should be smaller with two times the thickness of a sheet..

@@bogdyy13 yes I see, your right. But the measurement is right with 2x 40x40 and 2x 40x38 the final cube was 40x40x40,8cm :D

Will it be okay if i use aquarium silicone instead? My area does not sell dichlormethan :( and is it ok if I use 3mm instead? Since I’m using mine for reptiles, it will not be filled with water

The acrylic is laser cut, was around 95€ or 105$

@@GrowingInterest That's quite a bit. Would have any idea why acrylic is like 10x the price of glass? I want an idea of what the markup is on this stuff. I know people in other countries have access to this stuff for a huge faction of what we pay.

@@iAmFAUST It was online in Germany, pre cut. Maybe pre cut is more expensive, I just had to glue it :D
