And 2 years after... Noah has got a record deal, he just recorded and mastered his first single and is ready for tour. I love that guy he's so talented
This is what a viewer wants... No irrelative talking, no unnecessary activities, coffee making (🤣)... Just straight to the point, still engaging... Love your informative videos
I won't lie, you breaking down a music video like this is so so important. Half the things you've described I've envisioned but never actually tested. You give me confidence to get up and make it.
Take any four scenes from this music video, at random, and boom, you've got front, back and inside cover artwork for a vinyl album I would buy just by looking the the cover. So blissful. Love it. Thank you for sharing Danny!
Yeah like Daniel Schiffer's stuff. Motion sickness inducing. Plus it's going to look so cheesy and cringey in five years. That stuff doesn't age well. Remember all the crazy transitions and graphics in 80's videos? Does anyone look at that trash fondly nowadays? Danny has a really cool style that will stand the test of time. He envisioned a video based on the song and artist intent. So good.
Currently clicking away in the realms of RU-vid trying to learn new things as a young filmmaker and aspiring music video director and I came across your channel with the "How I Lit This Music Video" joint and I was hooked. This is great advice and THANK you for sharing and inspiring not only myself but many young filmmakers to go back to basics and focus on what really matters in the composition and lighting of shots. Sub for sure!
Hahaha Cody: “you just need to be more consistent” me: *puts out a video every single week the entire year.* Thanks homie. Noah is a beast man. Big things coming for him.
The sill shots feel like im looking at a moving picture (obviously that's the definition of a video - not what im trying to say). What I mean is that it feels like im peering into instant film that moves on its own and has it own breath of life. Very pleasing to look at!
Fantastic video, really love how the final product turned out. Sometimes simple is best! You manage to create some of the most organic/filmic looks from your C200 that I've seen. And I love your presentation style for your youtube videos, super informative but easy going, almost like talking with a friend. Keep it up Danny, I suspect your channel is going to blow up over the next year!
Such a great comment Thomas! Thanks so much for this. Definitely happy the talking is coming off that way. Always afraid too much of my face is boring, but thank you man! Appreciate this.
Really appreciate this. Next step in taking my music completely 'in house' is to learn how to make videos that don't look 'homemade.' This video was exactly what I was looking for. Keep up the good work! :) Subscribed
First, the song is dope. I will definitively be checking out more of his work. Second, The video is art. Before your commentary, I noticed and enjoyed the locked off shots, the framing, and mood. Like you mentioned, younger filmmakers don’t do that often. Nothing wrong with movement and transitions, but there is something that feels pure about these types of videos. Awesome work bro.
Thank you so much Paul! Definitely check out Noah. He's just starting out and hes gonna be a star. But couldnt agree with you more. Dude it was so refreshing just locking the frame off man.
Really like this. I'm shooting a small film for the first time and most is Static and some handheld for close up shots. There is no need to have the frame constantly moving, sometimes just a static emotive shot is all you need. Nice work !
Great video! This is a 0$ budget project, there's not crew, huge decorations or any of that. People don't create because they don't have the money enough, but you can create great stuff with your camera and your friends (that's the point of the video, find the concept and create). You can even use things from home, you don't need to buy with a huge budget (you can even use a Nikon d90 and create something beautiful, do not limit because you don't have an expensive camera). Keep it up. Subscribed!
dude thank you. So many people have been like "your camera was $0". These people will never succeed man. Thank you for this refreshing comment. I appreciate you a ton man.
Yes! Just did a $0 budget music video shoot for a friend that I am super proud of. Awesome tips and really just reaffirmed my process with a few extra nuggets of wisdom. I found myself nodding my head a lot like "yup, Danny knows!" Slowly making my way through all of your vids and smiling. Thanks man!
im so thankful for this. with all the fancy camera movements and crazy transitions its so nice to see something thats more minimalist , simple yet very refined and honestly looks better cause it doesnt need any extra FLUFF to distract the viewer and allows them to enjoy the nice music . though then again, it feels like this style wont work for every music genre but that's up to creativity :)
Currently in preproduction for a music video, and I just hit a mental roadblock on how to progress. This really helped me get back on track, and how to go about the rest of the process. There’s not enough thanks I can give.
Getting a few projects booked and people counting on me in these times is just a bless. But as it is for now, the budget is limited to none, thank you for sharing some of your toughts and perspectives on it. Great stuff!
Love it! Every single shot was amazing and could be a poster, the album cover, or a picture. That’s the level I want to get to. Every shot has meaning and intention. Beautiful work!!!
I love the aspect ratio. As a new videographer I always have 16:9 in mind but this 4:3 just brings back that classic feel which is good for some content. Less movement really sell the video as well! Always need a gimbal to move around but I am open now to more than just a gimbal (tripod😅) nice video yow, I'm Definitely using this method for my next video.
DUDE! Loved the video man, like others have said it's super nice to see someone not overusing gimbals/rigs + using static shots instead. Really shows with good use of light, quirky compositions + beautiful grading amongst other things you can create something magical. Haven't been shooting video much (bit obsessed with film photography atm) + this has definitely inspired me to get back into video more
You are providing an unbelievable amount of value for people looking to get into video and I can't imagine it being executed any better. Thanks for being an awesome human being!
You seem like a really wholesome dude. Great vid, glad I subbed! :) I'm 48 and just started video last year after a while with just photography and it's a steep learning curve. You're so informative and concisely inspirational. Keep it up!
Dude thanks so much. It really is such a leap, but I'm sure you have the eye and tastes already. Now its just about learning the technical side of equipment which literally anyone is capable of, so you're gonna be just fine man.
right away, i checked his spotify because his voice goes crazy. and i’m so happy to see that he went from having 10,000 monthly listeners to as many as 400k in 3 years. ugh that’s the type of shit I like to see. Danny makes the right bet again!
I saw that you had replied to someone else's comment about how others have said that your equipment didn't cost you $0 and you said that they just won't succeed. What they're saying is absolutely true. The gear that you used does come out to around $5000 or so. Could probably save some money by buying used equipment. It was free for the client, but not for you. It's a really simple video. Albeit, it is a very good video. It's a good song too. I do like the look and the sound of everything. I'm sure the reason that a lot of people that watched this video was because they thought they could film a music video with the stuff that they might already have. You also didn't necessarily need anything extra besides yourself, the artist, and the equipment that you used for a music video in this style. That would cost more. I know that these things are stuff that you already kind of have, as you're a film maker. For somebody like you, it's stuff you already would have bought. So it's $0. I totally understand this perspective. I do audio production and have tons of money's worth of equipment. Nice instruments, cables, rack gear, interfaces, plugins, computer, ect. I wouldn't make a video and then call it, "making a song with a $0 budget" though. I still had to buy everything that would be used in this hypothetical situation. If I would use cheaper equipment that was more attainable to the average person, then I would. You're using a $4000 camera though. That's the main cost. Plus the lens too. Just because it would be free for you to actually do it for somebody, doesn't mean it was free to acquire the appropriate gear. Plus the time to envision, edit, and everything else. If it's done just because you want to do it, or you like the artist, then that's one thing. Using thousands of dollars worth of equipment then calling it a $0 budget is another. If my thing was film making and/or videography, then I would have a bunch of nice video equipment instead of a bunch of nice audio equipment. All that being said, you did do a great job with what you had. Simple locations. Nobody extra. Used natural lighting. It came out great. The video itself was concise too and I understood what you were saying for the most part despite not knowing anything about it. It isn't really my style of music, but I can pay respects to a good musician/singer/artist/whatever even if it isn't something I listen to. I don't know if he wrote the track itself, but even if he didn't, the dude is still a really good singer. At least to me. I like his voice.
Wow I noticed while watching how well the yellow beanie works with the blue sky in nature. I thought that was planned. Love those unplanned beauties! :D
I’m sorry I just have to leave a comment. I fucking love your music video as well as this insightful RU-vid video. You’re amazing and I think you’re underrated .....
So soft and clean MV 👏perfectly matching with the song that I can feel both of your hearts. Well it’s not my fav music genre but sometimes watching & listening something different inspires even more I guess. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for sharing your thought process when making this video. We are new to making music videos and we are trying to improve from one video to the next, so this helps. Thanks. :)
Don't you think when money comes in you tend to incline towards money rather than creativity . When you don't have anything you tend ti think more and expand your horizon. This happens to me as well.
Thank you for this video. I want to get into music video production, but thought I needed all this equipment and a crew but this let me know that it’s possible without! I basically have everything I need
A little late to the party on this one but I just wanted to say how much I loved your composition and colouring on this clip, Danny. Stunning work! Also, a big fan of your goofy, self-effacing style. I get loads out of your channel and content. Thanks for all you do for the film making community, man!
I think what ties the music and the video all together is that you used simple static shots. And we always hear the phrase “ less is more “ and this video just is just that. I love the imbalances in your shots too. 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Thanks for inspiring me to do more work in the 0 budget field. I have started out this way but have slowly transitioned into the business mind which is good for certain scenarios. The video was simplistic but beautiful and really matched the song. Great work Danny !
You do deserve x10 more subscribers than most regular super hyped and sponsored youtubers out there. Awesome job with this one and your other videos, Danny.
