Thank you for putting this out. I read many threads, watched videos (also on 4 Runners and Tacoma's), but yours seems to be the most plain and visual for me. I am in the process of fitting Coopers STT Pros 315-70-17. I have King suspension, but more importantly I have SPC uppers with caster maxed. I have changed the lower control arms because the factory bolts and alignment cams were seized, so not alignment adjustment. For now I had to put spacers on stock wheels to clear the upper control arms. BMC and alignment will follow next week. And then I will finally be at the chopping stage, we'll see how much of it :-). Keep the channel ongoing, love the DYI and your adventures!
@@offroadhub.official Thx, I was able to do lots of off road-ing on 33s but on 35 MTs I am hoping will be another level. BTW, you have also pushed me to do the scuba mode, I have the parts for the last 2 years and I was putting it off :-). What do you have in mind for next projects? Mine will be to create some storage in the engine bay for tools and compressor, to free up the back. Then is to create a platform in the back (using a frame bed for raw materials) for sleeping/storage.
Not sure which UCAs you're running, but if you dial back the caster (negative) on SPCs, you gain rearward clearance since the spindle angle moves forward. Maxing the bolts out at LCAs (rear outboard - front inboard) for caster does introduce some camber, but that can also be dialed out on the SPCs.
I didn't do any body mods but I did do an aggressive bmc. I cut a bunch of plastic and had the alignment shop adjust 4 degrees of caster or just about. I did install whiteline lower control arm bushings because there is excessive fore and aft movement as they age. With all that, i have zero rubbing in the back of the wheel well but without sway bars, i get a pretty good amount of rub at full compression. As for the rear, I'm still stock on the lower link but mine are getting bent so I'll probably install adjustable links to keep the axle from pushing the wheel further back into the sheet metal you cut. But eventually I'm moving up to 37s so I'll probably have to cut what you cut.
So I am thoroughly enjoying all your content, thank you! I'm currently modifying my 14' FJ and wanted to go w 35's but I've read so much about ( regearing) that I've become hesitant. I value your opinion and was hoping to get your opinion on that. Is rehearing necessary? Are you finding the FJ ( hunting) for gears at all? Thanks again
Regearing isn't necessary, but wow, it makes it way more drivable. I regeared to 4.88 and it can now cruise at 75 and rarely downshifts. Before regearing I basically couldn't use cruise control, the hunting was nonstop. Thank you for watching and I'm glad you like the content!
Are you running without the rear sway bar? I'm also running the dobinsons long travel rear suspension and on my last trip I broke one of the sway bar end links against the lower link. Wondering if I can drive without the rear sway bar.

I know you went with 35s I got 295 70 17s basically 34s milestar Patagonias on my FJ no problems. I did the body shop and used wheel spacers. But that's all I had to do. 35s wast going to be just too much work. Plus I'm maxed out on fitting the spare on. But thanks for the heads up on going to 35.
I was running 285/75/17's (34") prior to these with just the body mount chop. I was rubbing on the back tires, because of the increased angles from the long travel dobinsons. What is most important is that you're happy with your setup! 🙂👍🏻
How do you guys like the Milestar Patagonias? I had never even heard of them before watching the first video in this series. I'm surprised how cheap they are.

I know this video is older but I just recently got a 2013 FJ cruiser I'm not sure what height my OME lift is but I have 285 75 r16 general grabber atxs look like ko2s on procomp xtreme alloys 16x8 69series and no BMC only rubs full lock in reverse or flexing out. Any ideas on what height my OME lift is with that info? Also I just ordered the same tire 315 75 r16 milestar Patagonia. I'm sure I'll need a BMC for that? I have it scheduled. I have stock ucas could I get away with spacers and bmc for these 315s
The OME lifts are about 3 inches, which is plenty for fitting your new tires. You will most definitely need a body mount chop. You will need at least -10 offset to keep the tire sidewall off of the upper control arm, maybe more. I had -25 with a 16x8 wheel. Having an aftermarket uca gives you the ability to increase caster, which gets the tires away from that body mount, but you might not need new ones. Sounds like you'll find out soon though! Have fun with the new setup!
Thank you for the information! I'm not 100% sure I think my wheels now have -6 offset. Will these be ok until I can save for ucas? Or should I put 1.25inch spidertraxx on too until I get money for the uppers? Love the way your fj looks now. You've done a ton to it! Looks amazing! Are you still in rexburg? They all lean on the driver side because, starting from the front to the back... battery, steering column, driver, fuel tank and usually the spare is off centered to the driver side.
ok, you definitively convinced me to keep it under 35... in Quebec, with all the salt they put in winter, those fenders cracks will rust my fj to dust in no time... I actually painted most of my frame yellow, it looks good, but it also flags rust start very early. this summer, I intend to fully paint and protect the whole underneath. remove those plastic covers, and seal all cracks that accumulates dirt. as for the leaning... hey, you re one solid piece of a man... it s a sure bet that it affects the suspension a little. it shows that you mostly ride alone without your wife. and also, maybe your gear weight is not balanced. look at small cars with heavy people, the drop is significant when they get in the car, an fj will not show as much, but still, it certainly makes a difference. I once owned a crx, and my best friend was 300lbs, one day, my muffler rubbed by hitting a bump, it just ejected behind the car... it was rusted, but it shows that the suspension travelled more. whenever he got in the car, sometimes the door would stuck on the sidewalk. this never happened with lighter people. I m hardly 140lbs, I m sure my fj does nt lean driver side. maybe you should balance your gear in consequence. hopefully, you will see this as science and not be offended. as a French man, I can t help but be frank, and I m sincere in trying to help. good show!
