I must admit when i saw you with the armature i thought "No that's all wrong", But the end product looks really very good, well one & thanks for the great idea. Appleby Linc's
Hiya Paul, I have mine in a queue ready to go. Great to see a refresher and I am going to use sea foam this time round.. thanks for sharing, stay well… All the best, Chris
Enjoyed the video it was good to see how you make your seafoam trees. With N gauge I just use the seafoam and no armatures but might look to use some smaller ones. Cheers Gary
Never really thought about mixing the armatures with the seafoam, Looks really good. Always on the lookout for easy yet good looking tree methods as im gonna need loads eventually. Cheers
Hi Paul, nice little tutorial that, I can’t wait to get round to the scenery of my layout, it’s certainly a method I will be using. Cheers for now, John
That tree looks really good Paul and a well presented video. Got all the ingredients so you have spurred me on to at last make some for Kingsbridge Junction, thanks mate. Cheers Steve
Nice one. Literally just taken delivery of a box of seafoam to try to make some trees. Thinking of just using that instead of the armatures, see how it goes but might have to change the plan to your method. Cheers, John.
Hi John, the seafoam works perfectly well on its own and most of my trees are done in this way. The armature addition gives a much more voluminous tree and makes a great focal point tree. Paul
It seems everyone at the moment is making trees. Very good video and well explained on the technique. The seafoam material is certainly very versatile. You also have a tidy garden it's amazing what you can do with 10mm static grass 😀thanks for sharing Paul cheers Andy
Like others below, Paul, I have seen folks do many things but not combine the WS armatures and the seafoam. That was an eye0opener and no mistake. Brilliant video and technique, sir!
Hi Paul - I use seafoam but not with armatures so that looks agood method as it makes the tree more stable so I will have to give it a go. I am going to GETS on the Saturday so will look out for you. Cheers Kev
¡Hola buenas tardes Paul! Great tutorial and, some great inspiration for using up my smaller, branch-size pieces of sea foam. I think a wander into a local rambla* is in order, to search out some suitable natural armatures. Impressive lawn you have there, amazing what a local ‘groundsman’ can achieve 😝. Stay safe and well. Un saludo. Gary *Dry riverbed/water course, where the flood waters go!
Hi Paul Long time no speak. Two videos in quick succession, great to see. I've been toying with a similar method for a while now but having seen how well the seafoam works I will definitely incorporate that into the trees. The finished tree looked better in my opinion than Woodland Scenic ones that cost £20ish. I was hoping to go to the Great Electric Train show but now it's in doubt due to family commitments...🙁 which is the story of my life! All the best Paul 👍
I agree with you Paul, the off the shelf tree products don’t look as good as the home made options. It’s a shame you can’t make it to GETS, it would have been great to finally meet in person. Some other time hopefully. Paul
Excellent result Paul. I watched two sea foam tree videos back to back. the other was a Canadian that I am subscribed to, both videos were so similar that you might have been sitting side by side. I have quite a few of those armatures and the sea foam grows naturally here on waste land so I have no excuses. lol. So many of my YT friends are going to be at GETS. I just wish I could come but the covid situation is keeping me home. Regards, David.
Hi David, it would have been great to see you at GETS, hopefully travel restrictions will ease soon and you’ll get another trip home and we can get a chin wag. Paul
Brilliant video Paul Sea foam is a great product for making trees. It just shows that you can improve the woodland scenics tree armatures with a bit for sea foam and some scatter to make a very realistic looking tree. Will give this ago. - Nicholas.
That's a great tutorial, thanks. Good you tell me what scatters you've used for the leaves? Not just on the tree in the tutorial, but on the others on your layout towards the end of the video?
Thank you Ian. The leaf foliage for most of the trees comes from G Model Miniatures although there are also a few Woodland Scenics Leaf Foliage pieces peppered in amongst them. Hope that helps. Paul
Hi Paul - That was absolutely brilliant mate, you make it look so easy. I decided a year ago that was how I would do my trees after watching Geoff of Pride Parkway showing us. It is great to be reminded how to do it and how good it really looks, thankyou. Bearing in mind I am N gauge, what size tree armatures from Woodland Scenics were they? Regards Chris
