Welcome, and thank you for joining me in another exciting knife-building adventure! In this video, I dive into the creation of two 6-inch chef knives simultaneously, crafted from 52100 high-carbon steel using a stock removal technique. Departing from my usual approach of focusing on a single knife, this episode offers a glimpse into my workflow, where I often tackle multiple projects concurrently, each at varying stages of development.
Part one unfolds as I begin with a 1/8" x 2" bar of 52100, shaping the knives' profiles and guiding them through the entire heat treatment process. While adhering to a handle design that has become a personal favorite, I traced out its contours and let my creativity flow for the rest, resulting in two chef's knives that, though similar, boast distinct characteristics.
This video is intentionally concise, featuring accelerated footage to provide a condensed view of my stock removal process, a method integral to many of my projects. Keep in mind that the journey from start to finish differs significantly for forged knives, and I'll be exploring that process in future content. Stay tuned for the next installment of this exciting project!
