I love that you went with red, white, and blue for the colors. When I was watching this video, a bald eagle flew in through my window, looked at the screen, and a single tear rolled down its beak. It then let out a mighty caw and flew off into the beautiful morning sunrise. I believe it was actually heading towards Lodge headquarters so it could thank all of you in person.

I am a Chef and I own a variety of iron pieces--enameled and standard. I love all my Lodge pieces--some of which were passed down from my grandmother to my mother, then to me. I am so happy that you are making the new enameled pieces in the USA! Lodge is part of my Southern heritage and I will continue the tradition! Congratulations on some beautiful work, Lodge!

@TheCharleseye

@@DonaldRull Does that surprise you? There's no pride in workmanship in Chinese factories. The only incentive is to try not to get fired. That's all. Meanwhile, we now have several generations of people having been raised to think everything is supposed to be cheap and disposable. I'm glad to be seeing a resurgence of the idea that paying more for quality, USA made products is better than buying whatever Chinesium garbage costs the least.

These look awesome and really looking forward to getting one. I've always liked that most of Lodge was made in the USA but it always bugged me a little that the enameled cast iron was made in China, so it is great that the manufacturing of the new pieces is now in the USA. Much more trust in the enameling if it is done here in the USA vs. stuff from other countries. Congrats on the new launch!

I love this all-American product that Lodge is finally coming out with. Le Creuset has been making enamel-coated cast iron products for a very long time. It makes me happy to see that we are finally catching up to this fantastic product. Hopefully it will be better-priced than the French equivalent since the cost of Le Creuset is outrageous. I will definitely be buying Lodge's enamel-coated cast iron pots and pans in the near future. Great video...makes me proud to be American!!!

I can't tell you how happy this is going to make my wife (and all of us) when she gets one of these for Christmas! My wife has wanted a nice enamel oval dutch oven for years but we just couldn't find anything that wasn't Chinese made (besides Le Cruset which costs an arm and a leg and makes no sense to import from overseas.) We ALWAYS try to buy American Made for the quality and to keep the jobs HERE and support our countrymen and economy. We knew you could do it and trusted you. You have not let us and America down! Happy to pay for the Strong American Made tradition - now improved upon! :)

I applaud Lodge for taking a huge step and learning the enameling process and actually producing in the US….BUT I simply don’t understand the knobs and “unnecessary” inserts in the handles that Lodge insists on making in China. In this video, Lodge states that they are a small company….it looks quite huge from the drone footage. There are thousands of metal shops in the US who would covet a contract with Lodge to produce the knobs and unnecessary inserts right here in the US. Lodge also owns Finex Cast Iron in Oregon and they produce their own stainless and copper handle grips. Lodge has come this far with customer demands to produce enamel domestically. It’s a testament to patriotism and US job security. But I will wait. When I see that Lodge Enameled cast iron is 100% “Made In The USA”, stainless bits and all, I will be FIRST in line to buy each new piece. I’m confident it will happen.

Let me tell you- I love my Lodge products so much that I tell my wife that if she leaves me, I will keep my Lodge pots and pans. She's not a fan of the pans because they're heavy, and of course, they don't have color. She loves the Le Creuset brand a lot because of the color, but she can't bring herself to buy them because they're so expensive (and they're just as heavy). She says that she will be so upset if she chips the enamel too. Go figure. I'm sharing my story. Hope you guys succeed and keep these high-quality products coming!

Lodge has made it affordable for fans like myself to own quality cookware that'll last for generations. I prefer the bare cast iron ones, as I know that all ceramic coatings will invariably chip. Extra effort has to be made to mitigate the chemical reactions between ingredients and iron, but the joy of using them far outweighs any inconvenience.

In fairness it is pricy for what it is. It is still made from imported materials and costs dang near 400 dollars and I can buy a Le Creuset 15.5 quart Dutch Oven for 470 or a 13 quart Dutch Oven for 370 which is around the price Lodge is selling for and it is made in France, twice the size as their biggest and well made.

I bought one of Lodge's enameled cast iron Dutch ovens that was made in China and found out it was made in China when I got it. The enamel popped off on the cooking surface inside the second week I had it. Lodge customer service said it was fine to use with a nickel size spot of raw iron and whatever bonding agent they use. I drilled holes in the bottom and made a planter out of it that was stolen in less than a month off my front porch. I bought one of these USA enamel Dutch ovens from the Lodge website that is being shipped from Atlanta, Georgia. I find that interesting. Hopefully it functions the way it is supposed to long term. The experience with the Chinese product drove me away from Lodge, and I have collected quite a few American made cast iron skillets from other manufacturers and replaced my Lodge products with them. This Dutch oven will be my test for Lodge products ever again. I have 3 Le Creuset enameled Dutch ovens for many years, and they are still all going strong. Hopefully this new Lodge product can stand with them.

@@lodgecastiron I just received the 4.5 qt USA Enamel Dutch Oven in blue. It's very nice!! The cover handle stands off the cover a good distance so a thick pot holder can get a sure grip on the heavy cover. This is important to me. I also like the pot handles for the same reason, they are ample size to securely hold them when lifting a full pot of heavy food. The lid fits snugly and doesn't rock. It is finished very nicely and looks great! As soon as I unboxed it, I washed it with dish detergent and a sponge, rinsed and dried it. It is flawless. I filled it with water and put it over medium heat to boil water in it as I usually do with new cookware. So far I like it a lot. The handles are also great for handling a slippery soapy cast iron piece. I like the design a lot, it shows a lot of thought went into it.

For this I hope in the future you will expand the product line to something that will accommodate round ~13+qts and/or an oval ~15+qt. Large families need a large option. Also the trim pieces I heard they were made internationally(assuming China) could you have a made in the USA Premium option or made in USA replacements considering this is supposed to be marketed to buyers that are looking for all American? This doesn’t stop me from buying it but it is mildly irritating to see stuff like that on a product with this type of marketing.

I was excited to hear Lodge was making a completely made in USA enamel dutch oven, but I have to say, I'm not impressed with its design. I don't like the look of the contoured swoop on the outside, and I could have looked past that, but why on Earth would you ever design a swoop on the INSIDE of the pot? That creates an unnecessary contour that makes it needlessly more annoying to clean. The inside of a pot should ALWAYS be smooth with no bumps or other contours whatsoever. Not only in regards to cleaning, but stirring and using the edge of a wooden spatula or spoon on the inside surface also becomes an issue because no cooking utensil conforms to that contour. Additionally, the raised edges of those contours on the inside will see more wear on those high points as it is cleaned over and over again, and those areas will begin to wear quicker. It's just so unnecessary. I would also be willing to bet that the pot's difference in thickness of the cast iron (due to those contours) may also create uneven temperature spots within the pot. Whereas a smooth pot with consistent thickness does not have those issues. It's essentially like designing a cast iron skillet with varying thicknesses. It just doesn't make sense. Secondly, while the metal 'LODGE' badges on the handles may look nice, they are an unnecessary feature and a potential failure point. The badges and the mounting screws that secure them could become loose and/or break over time after years of heating and cooling cycles. Additionally, the inset for those badges, as well as the lettering itself, is a place for food and grime to accumulate over time. Not to mention, water will also get underneath those badges while washing the pot and could cause rust issues over time. Whereas a smooth, solid handle has none of those issues. Also, while it may never be an issue, the casting of the cast iron where the badges sit is needlessly very thin as well. Thirdly, the lid's lift knob is not a good design. The sides of the elongated knob don't offer enough purchase for a good hold with an oven mitt or a hot pad, and even though there is added length on each end, it's not easy for an oven mitt or hot pad to curl and conform underneath for a good hold. Also, with the use of a hot pad, if your fingers do manage to curl underneath, it could also expose your fingers to coming in contact with an extremely hot lid, causing a potential burn. Additionally, because the elongated knob is not round, it relies on it being oriented a certain way just to lift the lid properly. I think of all these ergonomic considerations in regards to older people who may not have the best grip strength, and who may struggle with such a design. Whereas, with a traditional round knob, it allows you to pick the lid up with your hand oriented on top, and does not require you to curl your pad or your fingers underneath to lift it. And because it is round, it doesn't matter which way the lid is oriented in order to get a secure hold. You don't even have to think about it. Sure, you could replace the knob with a round one, but you shouldn't have to. For ease of use, it should have been a round knob. There's just no reason for reinventing the wheel when a round knob works safely, securely, repeatably and without fail. It just seems that this pot was designed with curves and features that no one was asking for. Watching the video, it seems the team was too ambitious and was more concerned with incorporating styling cues from non-cooking items, instead of concentrating on creating a simple, functional item with none of the issues I've mentioned. I don't mean to say these things to disparage or to not appreciate Lodge's hard work, and all the trials and tribulations it took to create something that has never been done by their company before, which I do appreciate their efforts very much, but it just seems they've made too much of a needless departure with certain elements of this pot's design for their own good. I was looking forward to buying one of these pots, but sadly, I will not be.

I should also mention for the record: I say this as a dedicated Lodge fan and a decades-long user of Lodge's products. I have three Lodge skillets: two for the kitchen that I use daily, and one for camping, as well as a cast iron Lodge pot for open fire cooking. I have also bought several Lodge skillets for other people as gifts because I believe in their products. But sadly, this dutch oven won't be one of them.

I love lodge I cook in nothing but cast iron! It never bothered me that you guys used to get your enameled pieces, enameled in China what does bother me is that as soon as I bought my first enameled dutch oven from you guys that I learned that lead, arsenic and cadmium leach from your enameled pieces so I haven't used m y blue enameled pieces from Walmart. That it has to do with pigments that are used and there's somehow an Acceptable amount of lead that can be allowed.

Hi there! All of our Lodge utilizes the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Test Procedure 7.5.1.4a Leachability of Lead and Cadmium for Glazed Ceramic Surfaces. The FDA Division of Compliance Programs uses ASTM-C738 as the Standard Method of Test for glazed ceramic. In addition to information provided by vendors, Lodge Manufacturing Company uses third-party testing to ensure that products with the Lodge name comply with standards set forth by the United States Food & Drug Administration. All our domestic as well as imported cookware complies with the FDA Standards. We are also in compliance with California Proposal 65, the world’s most rigid standard for lead and cadmium content. If you have additional questions about this feel free to reach out to our Customer Care Team at info@lodgecastiron.com
