I noticed that on the scaled down images, your line thickness didn't decrease. Make sure you check your scale settings to include line thickness. If you don't, outlines will fill in details as you decrease image size. I've used Illustrator for over 20 years. Otherwise, good work!

When I had an Epson printer I noticed that when I set to "Transparency" it tended to smear less if at all. Sometimes setting to that mode will reverse the image, so you may have to compensate for that.

Those decals will really tie your restorations together.

Hey I've tried it out with a friend but we hae a problem I was hoping you could shine some light on. We printed out some bright blue decals with a laserjet but they turned out see-through on a black surface. What can we do to make them "solid" so the surface they are applied on does not shine through?

Hello there, how well would it look on transparent decal paper and then applied to a black surface?

The quality looks great! I use an epson all in one printer thing for my decals. the quality is poo for smaller decals. so I think I need to upgrade. To 'seal' the printer ink I use automotive clear coat which seem to more well :D

Not sure if you will get this seeing as this video is a year old, but I was wondering what decal paper you are using? I am having a hard time finding one that works good. My ink seems to bead on top of the paper and it is super frustrating. My printer is amazing in every other way and if I print the image on regular paper it looks great. Can you help?

I am having trouble getting this same printer to work correctly . It prints photos just fine . but my decals come out too light on one setting and smudged on other settings . I tried matt , high gloss , I slowed the paper speed down . Giving me a headache . please help

hi ive a similar printer, brand new i printed on paper to pratice was fine but than on waterslide it printed but its stripy light and dark its so odd! i dont want to waste anymore, i set it to glossy

Hi, is hydrographic film the same as water transfer paper? Of course i would peel off the film layer off the water transfer paper. But it is the same yes?

Where do you get water decal paper?

Grabbed an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 for $10 at Goodwill ($1,300 MSRP). :) It's a 17" (A2) pigment inkjet printer where most others from Canon and even the lower-end Epsons are dye inkjet printers. Do you know if dye/pigment makes a difference here? They both print to treated surfaces like photo receptive paper. If anything I'd expect the pigment to be less water-soluable than dye, though they are both in solvent solutions. It also has an alternste rear feed that's totally flat so it can even print on posterboard or photo-receptive metal plates.

I have just started to make my own for some of my RC planes and they have come out ok. Try not to put too much clear on them though as it can crack slightly when dried. I have only tried it on black ink which was large iron crosses. Not tried it small scale as yet but i do have some old diecast cars that are stripped ready for paint. I only paid £6 for 20 A4 sheets which is silly cheap money. Great channel, keep up the good work :)

How do you cut the decal after printing out ?

I am a printer by trade. That looke like printing press quality work. I am only seeing it on RU-vid but the graduating tint on that looks great. So does the photo. This is why printing presses will soon be a thing of the past. Once the get copiers to run as fast and as cheap as a printing press there will be no need for presses anymore.

any pointers on sizing my images to be 1:64th scale on 8.5x5.5 testors water slide decal paper. i have been at it for days now and im about to give up. think i got my original group of images to 654px x500px every time i print things are different sizes or different places and im not changing any of my print settings using a epson xp640

Ink jets print best, but the HP's, if I didn't run it often enough, the head would clog or dry up, and the printer would not print. They were cheaper to replace than repair at 150 dollars ten years ago. Maybe they fixed that issue. They would print photo quality. Happy video

Do you have links to the decals paper please?

Epson is a good printer. A lot of them can use external ink which is cheaper. I use setting at regular paper at best quality to print my waterslide (either clear or white paper). Clear coat will depend on what you are going to use it on. If the car has enamel paint, then you need to cover the waterslide with enamel clear. With spectraflame I use polyurethane fast drying clear gloss by Minwax. I do one light coat and one semi heavy coat. The more you use the thicker the waterslide and the harder to cover it when trying to erase the border. Yoiu have to find the sweet spot. If you don't use enough clear coat the ink will get damaged when applying.

I've had a couple of Epson front tray inkjets and it's never been a problem printing photos and heavy weight paper. Cool video though!
