You could have stepped up the effectiveness of these bars by putting a free floating steel rod inside. If someone were to decide to use a hacksaw or reciprocating saw on it the blade would cut through a portion then hit the free floating steel rod and the bar would just roll effectively all but stopping the progress.

Good Tip. I also thought about filling the inside of the bards with cement.

Excellent work, Phil. It's a sad indictment of the times we live in, that there should be a need to take this type of action to protect our property, but here we are! Apologies for not having contributed to your channel with likes and comments in recent weeks. Seems like we've all got stuff going on these days. Keep up the good work👍

Cheers Andy 👍🏻 no problem I know what you mean I feel like I'm always busy these days! It is a shame about crime rates although it was fun to make these and didn't cost anything really so it's not all bad.

There was always theft from sheds and work shops. Only the reporting levels have gone up but the actual occupancy. Those that say "we could leave our front doors unlocked back in the day" either are remembering with rose tinted ears or just as likely it's because people didn't get robbed because everybody in said areas knew everybody actually had nothing worth robbing. Lol

Great idea, also great fun doing tasks with metal as well as wood. I was going to do these not only for security but also to stop anything im moving around in the shed from smashing the windows

Thats a great idea if you can get hold of similar scrap metal. I put bars on my shed at allotment shed but I had to buy them. It did stop someone trying to break in, I also re-enforced the doors and have 2 strong hasps and locks too and the hinges have coach bolts in

Cheers Chris 👍🏻 your shed sounds like a mini fortress. It gives piece of mind to know you have made an effort to prevent burglaries.

Yes I like to be careful with security I just find it intolerable when people steal

Great idea reusing the scrap metal from the cart. In the neighborhood where I'm repairing an old house (which has been broken into several times in the past year and a half), someone could/would almost certainly squeeze through the space between those bars. Crackheads tend to be thin and agile. But the idea is sound, I just need to add a few more bars. Thanks for your video.

I was thinking about adding a 4th bar for this reason. Because this window is made of thick Perspex I think it would make it very difficult anyway because it will not smash like glass. But for a glass window I would add another bar or two.

Good idea Phill, and another great bit of recycling, I hope this is not in response to any recent bad experience ! I bet you'll end up hanging things from the bars too !

Cheers Andy 👍🏻 no bad experiences I've just been meaning to make some for a while. I can sleep better knowing I've made it as secure as I can.

Great idea, but whats preventing the bars being sawed by a hack saw? Also the tube being hollowed, isn't it easy to bend and break if someone kicks it. All is takes is a simple hack saw on the back side to create a weak spot, then a mild kick will bend and break it.
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects 7 месяцев назад
Firstly, there is a 1cm thick Perspex window in the way which is not easy to saw or break through its out of a bus stop. It might not seem like it from the video although those bars are stronger than they look. They take a while to cut through with a hacksaw. They are more of a preventative measure not a sure way of stopping anyone getting in. I don't really understand your point. It's like saying what's preventing someone hitting a window with a hammer and then climbing through it. I am not trying to make it Fort Knox it's only a shed.

Hey Phil. Viewer request if i may? Any chance of a maintenance video on the Aldi battery mitre saw? My blade moves about a little and it struggles to cut standard 3x1's etc, etc. Mine came with a dodgy switch (that i can live with) but the thing struggles in simple small cuts and i think it's either a poor blade or maybe because the blade actually moves about a tiny bit whilst cutting? It's not battery, as mentioned in the past, i have 2 hardly used batteries. Thanks.
@PhillWyattProjects
@PhillWyattProjects Год назад
Actually Dene, I haven't done any maintenance to mine yet. Mine has slight movement on the blade although no more than any other mitre saw I ever owned. It's fairly accurate. I think that the blade provided is surprisingly good and I'm still using mine. Once the saw gets up to speed it should have no problem cutting dry 3 x 1's. It sounds possible that yours might have a problem from what you have mentioned. I am not sure what to advise on how to fix it sadly.

next time I suggest to paint the screws head black also , it will give you nice finish and more protection to these screws .
