This is a great video. I'm just wondering is the fact that it's not a "sliding" mitre saw any hindrance to you in your projects? I'm just getting into woodworking and I'd like to make chest boxes, desks and cabinets etc and I'm not sure should I buy a more expensive sliding mitre instead of the one in this video...
A sliding saw will give you more cutting capacity. Also, a lot of sliding mitre saws offer a trench cut facility for dado trenches. Non sliding saws do have their limitations there really is no rite answer though.
TIP: Although many things are described as being Mahogany, it has been illegal to export genuine South American rain forest Mahogany since 1974 (can only be used within the country of origin). Some does get illegally exported into USA and some of that ends up in other countries - UK included, no doubt. The chances are that when a product is described as being made of Mahogany, it will either be Sapele (which closely resembles Mahogany) or from a south east Asian plantation of Mahogany that grows much faster than in a native South American rain forest and does not have the same quality. So, if you do come across genuine rain forest Mahogany, it is either 50-year old stock or illegal. I know it's geeky - but that's me...!
Some great ideas. I like these short summary videos because it focuses on the finished article and then points me towards lengthier videos for the projects that I'm interested in.
Hi Phil, I'm interested in your sharpening of the chisels. Have you done a video on how you do it and the equipment you use? If not would be great to see one 👍🏻
It has two year warranty doesn’t it ,but it’s gone two years now😂how is it now ,noticed on new lids they crack when you screw in the hinge as one of the top standard screws into the screw holes in it crack or split as it’s not reinforced on the top screwfix point look sideways where hinge screws go in is there fatigue on yours yes most patios have a fall for rain to run of leaving shed slant😮
I highly recommend you for your next video to wear safety appliances, gloves, googles, and do not use short pants again. Your body is your most valuable treasure.
I'm currently extending My Shiplap shed and have noticed there is rot at a bottom corner I think I caught it early enough to fix it but I did neglect it for several years. It was a second hand shed and I have only just repainted it after over 5 years and I have never sorted out the guttering.
Hi Phill, The ideas are endless what you can do with a jig for your wood vice to save room on your workbench just clamp in and and put it away when you finished. Always full of great ideas and tips catch you soon take care
I have one... The nailes came with it were fine but when i used bought from Screwfi, it doesn't work properly. I don't know whether it has problem with the tools or the nails?
@@nigelwilliams877 yes just water. It has no roots yet so can't deal with any feed. That would probably kill it. As long as it's warm it should be fine. I do have another video on my channel about growing these in winter also.
I think the screws you are using to secure the bracket to the stud are the weakest link in this equation. They will probably bend or snap over time. Some m8 or m10 x 75-90mm lag bolts (1/4 or 3/8 x 3.0-3.5in USA) would be much better at supporting whatever weight goes on this shelf.
Hi Phill, Good job on turning a set of Silverline chisels in quality chisels nice and sharp good enough for carpentry as always a great video, catch you soon Take care
Thanks Phill, although they are not super-cheap at nearly £16 I'm surprised how well these tested, my experience with Silverline tools has not been great, particularly the attention to detail and quality control, but these look nicely finished ! I would have liked to see you chop out a mortice in some construction timber and then focus in on the edge and test it for sharpness after some more testing work, perhaps you could give us an update and comparison with the other cheap chisel sets you bought and tested recently ? Thanks for taking the time to test and share your findings !
@@andyc972 cheers Andy 👍🏻 I agree silver line tools can be hit and miss sometimes. yea I could do an updated pic of them on my Instagram to show the tips after more use. I think £16 for a set of 4 of this quality is actually pretty cheap. I would compare these to a set of modern Irwin chisels which are of similar quality yet half the price. I've even bought another 32mm chisel for the set as I plan on keeping these for a while. They also do a 38mm too.
First video of yours I've watched. Thank you very much. The way you presented this info was fantastic old-school knowledge that is disappearing all too fast. You have a Liked and subscribed from me. Thanks again
About to demo my old 6*8 shed with low slanted roof. Replacing with a 12*12 with a gable roof.....will be taking a lot of your ideas for this new shed ...thanks.
