Gabby, I just watched some videos of other jewelry makers using these tiny burnishers. Look for videos on flush mounting stones. Apparently they're used to press around the tiny stones used in flush mounting. Hope that helps!

Hi A Shand! ( Andrew, hope you don't mind me answering this first!) A Shand, you need a diamond coated drill bit to drill holes in stone. I'm assuming you mean stones like agates, jasper, other semi-precious stones. That technique falls more into the lapidary category & there are several stone/lapidary workers you can find on RU-vid. I'll tell you what I know for now. I've cut holes in stone & glass by using diamond coated drill bits (they come in all different sizes, from tiny to pretty large. I've purchased them for my Dremel tools from Ace Hardware, Home depot, Amazon, Rio Grande, etc. They're easy to find). Cutting stone or glass must be done under water though, because of all the heat built up while cutting. Your stone will crack if not kept cool. I place the stone in a shallow dish of water so just the tip of the drill is submerged (can't submerge the actual drill because you'll ruin it &/or get electrocuted!). There's quite a few steps to get started, such as having a way to keep your stone stabilized if it's too small to hold with your fingers, starting the hole with a tiny pilot ding, moving your drill up & down while drilling so particulate matter can be released into the water while you're drilling through the stone, etc. Really, find a lapidarist on here to see full instructions on that. If you really can't find one, try glass working sites. I've put 4mm holes in fused glass pieces using a table grinder made for stained glass work. Always using diamond coated grinding heads. They're crucial. Burrs are drill bits that have heads of different shapes & sizes & are made specifically for different tasks. Andrew can answer this question better than I! Hope this helps!
