This is the kind of tool that a guy who can stare at a tool for hours and inspect/scrutinize/admire/drool on will be squirming impatiently until he finally purchases it. A guy like me, that is. I can't wait to see what the next video is on.

I got my XSB01 in the mail last week and it's great! I love this tool. I've been using it with metal, wood and plastic.... It's wonderful and I'm still on my first sanding band... Watching you go through them, I have 5 boxes of 80-120 grit. Within a day off getting the Makita sander, I got the M12 diegrinder (2585-20), it's an awesome addition to my arsenal. You need one!

Another great vid! I have to say I’m quite impressed with how good of a job it does, it chews up wood very fast, this could definitely help me in my sanding, I have a Makita corded finishing sander and it gets most of the jobs done, but it’s very slow. I do also like that the belt is very skinny, you can get into so many tight spaces.

@Tools & Stuff. Thanks for the great video review on that Makita Cordless 18V belt sander. So I'm not the only Makita owner who has a problem with Makita's dust ports and the many different size ports they have for their tools. Your plunge cutting with the Makita belt sander just proves that you don't need to buy a Festool Domino joiner. And it's a great sander too. So versatile! Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

Two years later and Milwaukee's claiming that their just released M12 bandfiles/finger belt sander is the first one. Also, it's interesting seeing Makita's belt tensioning and replacement system. Both the M12 and Pneumatics I have do it this way: The finger is spring loaded and automatically tension themselves. They also have a latch that will hold the finger in, and you can replace the belt.

I had been pondering over purchasing this tool but after watching your fine review I bit the bullet and ordered - thanks! You asked us to report back on where ours were manufactured. I purchased mine from Amazon UK and it was made in Japan. Also, it came with an adapter (22mm) in the box, for connecting dust extraction. I am about to order the 13mm optional attachment to expand my options further. Great reviews and really I enjoy watching the channel - cheers!

TIP! Great tool, we have been using corded one ages for steel. Since the special belts for this are kind of expensive and not commonly available. I usually buy 533x75 belt (you need quality one, preferable taped backside like Mirka) you squeeze it between your fingers together, make cut with scrissors the width you need and then all the rest you can just tear to get narrow belt out of wide one.

I like the multi tool comparison, as this falls in the same category. It's a tool no-one really needs. But once you've bought one you'll be amazed at how many times you grab it to get that one finicky thing done just a tad bit quicker 'n easier.

Nice! Great video as usual! I really hope these get popular and Makita makes these by the millions. I suspect its kind of a niche tool, and that is why its $280.00 US price, for the bare tool. $479.00 for the 2 battery charger and case "kit" Its really not a super complex tool , but its price would make one think it is. Makita's 110volt small sander like this, was the same way for decades, it seemed very pricey. Not many of the "popular" electric tool companies make this tool, So Makita can kinda price it at whatever. Hopefully economies of scale and competition, will get that to drop someday.

Bought the corded one of these nearly 20 years ago. It's the sort of tool where you don't know what you're going to use it for and when you have it you use it for loads of stuff. Might get the cordless version now. Just buy wider 533 belts and cut them down. Much better than buying the genuine expensive ones. Means you can also get the tougher blue zirconium ones. Also I've found that if you reduce the speed to 3 on a new belt as it stretches in. Then you can increase speed and the belt lasts longer

Thats about the same that i paid for 75mm/3" screw feeder head spare part for Makita DFR 550 , and making it to DFR 750 ... base tool is same on several models . Makita DFR 550 + spare part for 75 mm screws = 25 % cheaper than DFR 750 model alone ... one of those that make no sense .

That's because the gardening tools are made by Dolmar Sachs, and some of them actually still are manufactured here. The machines made in the EU (i.e. Romania) seem to have very nice build quality. With the chinese made tools, I had mixed experiences. I had one that was definitly inferior to the EU built counterpart (same machine, I sent the first one back and reordered and by chance got one that was made in the EU), but I also have some Makitas made in China that are impeccable. So it might have been just that one in a thousand that just wasn't that great...

@@Fekillix I suppose in the end all Makita tools are made to the same standards (when it comes to the exact same models built in differnt places). Over all, the quality of the Makita tools I own (must be around 13 right now) has been super good. I literally never had even one machine let me down ever. The one China made tool I sent back was the biggest brushless single 18V recip saw Makita makes. It has a user replaceable rubber boot at the front that simply was too loose for my liking. That said, at that point I didn't know that it was user replacable and that it's normal for that part to seperate from the housing. The Romania built machine had a tighter fit, yes, but I don't think that this had any influence on the performance of any of those saws. It was completely cosmetic. So I wouldn't interpret too much in this one glitch. We'll probably find some people who had similar occurances with EU or UK built machines as well. It just happens once in a while that a batch of components is a bit off but it seems that this is indeed a rarity with Makita which is a great thing!

The reason I never purchased this tool this is the belts, I can easily get 3M belts for my cheap and cheerful Ryobi power file in 457mm size, using crap belts detracts from the experience and causes huge frustration, 3M belts are the only ones I'd consider regardless of the cost, but hard to find them in 533mm around here hence Makita getting ruled out in favour of the Ryobi. 3M or put the tool away.

I think some comments don’t realize they have been making the pneumatic versions of these for 50 years and are a main staple in the metal fab world. But…..one of the most common belt sizes is 1/2” x 18”. Makita picked the wrong size here, not very common. 3M is the bomb and makes a nice selection of 1/2” x 18” belts…….👍
