My big Makita grinder has always had a problem with the switch where it occasionally just would not start. When it started it produced such a startup surge that it often tripped the braker.
Quite annoying. To solve the issue, I replaced the switch and retrofitted a soft starter in an epic, adventurous journey. So come with me! Let's learn together!

Can you put a link for soft start module? I got same amp guzzler from makita like you.its a good angle grinder but it trips 16A brakers like crazy.

Thats a real man grinder . I have that 7 inch and the 9 ga9040s. On that model it just have a big resistor to soft start .

Someone has been working out and the results are in. Congrats, very nice. We need more German men to take care of themselves and their nation. I don't want to live in Europe which is not run by German tidiness, ingenuity and industriousness. Just not the Angela Merkel type ("Wir schaffen das", or however you spell that disaster). I avoid these bigger grinders. If the disk breaks, they are so powerful the shards will slitt your troath or penetrate your skull and when they jam they will break your wrists.

Makita does that to cheaper tools ,its a dick move but they would go bankcrupt if they put 5$(probably even cheaper when you buy it in bulk from china) soft start.

One good tip is that if you do more cutting then grinding, you can rotate the handle the hold it more comfortably

You should get yourself a decent crimp tool. Seriously useful in situations like these. I'd recommend getting the smaller size one + dies for the bigger one (which you can get using the code on the side of the tool). Past the initial investment in the tool, the crimps are cheap.

Maybe the Wago are better than soldering in this case? Sometimes with vibration solder breaks up, because it is harder and fragile. If not, the very correct way would be crimping; for that application much better than soldering. Oh... the safety police in youtube will catch you, for not using safety shoes!!! Also by resting the grinder face down instead face up... ;)

I'm not sure Wagos are rated for vibration like this though. Probably be fine, but I thinking crimping them would be the best.

Question is.. why doesnt the machine come with that soft starter from the factory? Goes for all other mashines too. Its not just for limiting starting current but also for safety reasons. If find machines with instant 5000 rpm or more downright scary.

The model with soft start is higher tier and costs more money. You have to get rich somehow as atoolcompany... If you would pack all the nice features worth 5 EUR in the base model and sell it for 10 EUR more, you would loos a lot of money and i bet many people would still buy the cheapest tool, even if 10 EUR more gets you the premium one :D

@@alias_not_needed If the part doesnt cost more than $30 to buy separately they certainly wont lose money by selling it for $30 more. All basic things should be included in base models. They dont have to lower the price on high end models because of that.

@@martinsvensson6884 Makita likes to do that ,their hobby brand makitech doesnt have reverse on switch on drill i bought and yet model is cheaper for half a price. Dick move since those cost few $ when you buy in bulk ,same as this soft start.

@@martinsvensson6884Lets say the sell one million basic tools and save 1 EUR for each tool when they don't put in a soft start. That are 1 Million EUR in sum. Now imagine you could sell the same tool with soft starter for 10 EUR more. Each tool is reduced to the absolut minimum cost to produce. Now find companies who do not do this to rise their profits as much as possible...
