The motor in my Makita DUR181 string trimmer burned out. In this video we open it up and replace the motor with a new part.
Link to the replacement motor I installed: partswarehouse...

I was watching this video to hopefully know where that white rubber thingy fell from but no dice I guess. Otherwise, don't use powertools to assemble or disassemble these tools. One wrong angle and you're screwed. Second it's not left or right wire but positive or negative. Positive should be marked with red on the motor and should be white wire on the trimmer but you should always check with a tool that everyone should have if they try to repair stuff at home.

I live in Europe. Can you send a link where you bought that electrical motor?

@Lizard11ify, firstly thanks so much for watching the video and your comment! I purchased the motor from a company called 'Parts Warehouse' and their website is one of those where I can send you a link to the part directly. To view part on their website go to: www.partswarehouse.com, and then in the top search bar on their website search on: makita 629932-8. The website is in the U.S. and I am in Canada and they shipped it to me without issue. Not sure which country you are in, in Europe, but if this doesn't work for you then do a search on the the part number: makita 629932-8 Hope this helps! Thanks again, and if you haven't already, please subscribe, I would really appreciate it!

can the string head be replaced? I cant figure out how to remove it.

Hi @rm7581, you sure can! Assuming you have the same model as mine, here is what you you do: Remove the inner housing that holds the replacement line by pressing the two plastic tabs on each side and then prying up to remove the spool that holds the line. Once you have the spool fully removed, then you will see a hollow center shaft and at the bottom of that shaft is a little black phillips head screw. Remove that screw, ideally with a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdriver, and if you don't have one, then you use a standard philips screwdriver and carefully remove the screw. Once you do that the string head will fully come off. Hopefully this is clear. If not, then let me know and I can do a short youtube video showing you how to do it. If you have a different model of Makita they may remove differently. Let me know how it goes. Thanks again for your comment and if you haven't already, please subscribe (it costs nothing and is just a bookmark). Really appreciate it!

Hi @rm7581, you sure can! Here's what you do: Frist remove the spool that holds the line by pressing the two black tabs in and prying the top off the string head. Then fully remove the spool etc. At the bottom of the line head, with the spool removed, you will see a black phillips head screw. Removing using a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdriver, and if you don't have one of those then carefully use a regular phillips head (star shaped) screwdriver to remove it. Once you remove the screw the remainder of the string head will come right off. Hopefully this is clear, if not just let me know and I can do a short RU-vid video to further explain and show how it is done. Thanks so much for your comment and if you haven't already, please subscribe (it's free and is essentially just a bookmark) Really appreciate it, and pop me another note to le me know how it works out. Cheers!
