I love it. I’ve added the Riptide Terrova trolling motor and it makes anchoring so much easier. I’m looking forward to the warmer weather and better fishing coming soon. I will say that fishing with 3 adults is comfortable. You can fish with 4 adults but can’t move around as freely. I can see myself moving up to a 19 or 21 ft after about 5 years with this boat.
@@ericrocha1 Cool I just bought one today with the 75 my regular people weight will be around 500 pounds 3 people but there will be a couple times a year where I may have 800 pounds of people (5 people).
Superb hull design, for stability, fishability, bait skiff, back country, etc. Had a Pro Skiff 15 mounted on the bow of one of my larger boats. God bless you guys. [P.S. Look for a small box at PMB tomorrow 7.12.21 or Tuesday] Careful opening to not cut contents
I've had mine for three months. I have the 75 HP Merc. It's a work horse. The boat has great fishing access- 360 degrees of casting opportunities. It's fast enough with the 75- but a little stern-heavy. It's overall a great boat. Two problems I have with it: 6 gallon gas tank is a joke and the steering is a bit rough.
Once you get your vessel view hooked up and going take your boat out by yourself turn it on and go to the RPM screen, at full throttle you should be at about 5800 RPM and around 34-37 MPH. If not run your trim up and down slowly and watch your RPM and speed you will see your speeds change and it will also increase your miles pre gallon.
We're evaluating boats and the Mako 17 is on our short list so we really appreciate your videos! You mentioned that the total length was 23"8". Mako lists the storage length at 22"4". Any idea why the difference? Was your motor trimmed up when you measured? I have a large garage where I would store for the winter but 23"8" wouldn't fit.
Are you trimming the motor up to get to top speed? With three people and all of our gear the boat will easily hit 36. With only me I can get to 39 with the 75 hp.
Awesome! I know you are not super happy with your hummingbird, what do you recommend for a fish finder? Also, do you have a video on safety features and things you need it to add for safety? Such short wave radio. Thanks for the feedback! Happy 4th of July!
This is the on water review, there are three other videos of us doing full walk arounds of the boat, the water was cold that day so I didn't want to jump in to film around the boat. Lol
Really close to getting one of these, the only thing that worries me is what you mentioned about the wake. Will be my first boat. Would you recommend as as a first boat purchase? Thanks in advance!
I absolutely would! This was my first boat ever as well. It is a great boat to learn on. I have driven other boats but this is the first one I have owned.
Ron, have you had any issue with water getting into the lower hull, what would normally be the bilge? I just pulled my Mako Pro Skiff 17 out of the water after it was on a mooring for 5 days, as well as being fished and tubing, and when I pulled the bilge plug about 40 gallons of water ran out! It poured out for four minutes! And for some reason the “bilge pump” only handles the deck water, not the water in the lower hull.
If you don’t mind where did you mount your transducer? I keep loosing bottom over 8 mph and sometimes when coming to a spot I have to almost completely stop and go in neutral in order to have depth readings again.
I had it professionally installed and they put it qt the bottom of the right v hull, however mine does the exact same thing. I am not impressed with the helix 5 qt all. It has yet to impress me with its performance.
I have a 2019 Mako 17 Pro Skiff too and we are loving it. I have a Humminbird Helix Chirp 5 SI GPS G2 on order and plan to mount the transducer on a stern pad so I don't have to drill holes in the hull. How has your experience been with your Humminbird? What location on the transom did you mount the tranducer? Have really enjoyed your channel!
Thank you! I have had good luck with it as a finder, doesnt seem to work quite as well in deeper water as it does in shallow. the biggest issue is it does not read depth while underway. The transducer is mounted on the back of the boat near the bottom of the v hull. It does not seem ideal to me as that is where the waterflow exits but there really is no other place to put it. I had it professionally installed.
@@CameramanRon ok awesome I was double checking I just purchased a 2022 pro skiff 17 thanks to your videos first day on the water was yesterday but I was a bit worried about only seeing 4,200 RPM with the spitfire prop at WOT. Now I feel a bit better I did not want to have the motor to low in the operation range and damage the motor. Since the booklet says wot operation range is 4,500-5,000 but I guess mako just over propped the boat a bit. Thank you so much for the fast comment can't wait to watch more fishing videos!!
There are two other videos of wqlk around of this boat. When the words on water review are there its pretty good indication there probably won't be a lot of shots of the boat.
I am considering buying this boat but would appreciate your input regarding engine choices. There is a 112 pound weight penalty between the 60 and 75 HP. So I'm curious about if the 75HP upgrade is really necessary. Thanks.
I can only speak to the 75 as I have never done anything with the 60. I would assume it would depend in where you want to take it. I thought they only put the 60 hp engines on the 15s now though. I didn't know you could get a 17 with 60hp. I know they are on makos site but I don't believe they have made them since 2019
Yep, 60 is still available for 17’s. The owner of my local dealer (awesome folks) mentioned the resale value is much higher with 75. And as we all know, when loaded with 4-6 people (weight??) is much easier (less stress) on the engine. As I recall, those were the two main factors. I went with the 75. When financing long term is not a burden. Hope this helps.

I have the 60 hp and prefer it over the 75 hp because of weight and cost. Main reason 15 extra Hp and extra 112 pounds no thanks. Now if it was 90 hp I would.
Hey Rob, i won’t be able to store mine in my garage (two doors). I heard you say you keep yours outside; what do use to protect it? My garage doors are 7’6” wide each. Thank you.
I purchased a 25 foot by 12 foot tarp to cover mine with. If your door is 7'6" you may be able to get it in there. It will be tight thoigh it was about an inch under 7 foot 6 inches. The tsrp with eight bungee straps works great from covering it though
Crossroads Media Thanks Ron. I’ll give it a try in the garage. If that doesn’t work, I’ll definitely get that tarp. My apologies for messing up your name on my last comment.
@@CameramanRon FYI, the bilge pump is not truly a bilge pump; it’s really just a deck pump, and mine wasn’t equipped with a float switch so I had one installed.
